Granted indices don't really need pictures, but they can still make things more attractive and interesting.

I have three possible suggestions.

  1. Make a collage based on this. It would require cutting out the top bird.
  2. Use a version of this with the excess margins trimmed down.
  3. Use the picture below that was originally on Ravens and Crows

The Twa Corbies

I personally quite like the Twa Corbies. Probably my favourite of the lot, artistically speaking, but admittedly it shows just crows and not ravens, magpies, etc.

I really like collages, so I'm for the first suggestion.

Either of the first two work fine for me...whichever will look better at wiki size.

1.2 seems less dry/clinical than 1.1.

I support either 1.2 or 1.3 based on that reasoning.

I like 1.3 best from the OP suggestions, although it might be better to have a picture of more than just raven and crows.

[up]I think that the picture you link is my new favorite one. Less crowded than the other bird collages.

This 7 re-sized for TV Tropes. I prefer it to the other ones showing multiple birds because they are arranged horizontally instead of vertically, which keeps the picture from being excessively tall for such a small page, and generally has better portions. The birds are also more naturally posed and arranged, so that one can imagine them all standing together in a group.

[up] My only objection to that is that the image seems a little muddy in the blacks. The source pic isn't very good quality so that probably can't be helped.

Any more thoughts on this? Do we need a crowner?

I think there is a pretty undisputed lead. Not as many votes as I would like but it can be called.

I went ahead to upload and pothole it, since it's beyond clear.

I like how the image's height fits the page.

I don't think a caption would be necessary.

The crowner's called. No need for a caption here; locking up.
