Beg your pardon?
Putin has political consistency (you don't see him go from for something to against something in under 24 hours) and most of all, competence. Trump's myriad business failures and awful credit rating means that he is even further removed from Putin's league than Hillary is.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotPutin's not exactly smart, nice or filled with integrity, and most of his achievements can be summed up as "being neither a mass murderer nor a turbo-fuckup, unlike so many other rulers of Russia/USSR," but damn does he beat Trump on all fronts. I'm completely serious here.
Also, why would you ever want to politically compete with Trump? You just stand back and watch him run everything into the ground. Hell, that's why Russian Fascists cheer for Donald - they want to see America burn, and he will make it burn so hard that Nero will rise from his grave and start playing God Send Death on his lyre.
It's also why the government is apparently supporting his campaign.
Oh really when?trolling Clinton and not laughing in Trump's face due to his status as a useful idiot for the Kremlin isn't quite the same as supporting him. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it.
Our public loves mocking both candidates, though.
I wonder if some people think that if Trump becomes president, Putin's Russia will be a comparatively nice place to live in.

Amnesty International evicted from its Moscow office
Inter arma enim silent legesWish I could say I'm surprised but I'm not. I'd say Putin's going full dictator, but he was already that. With each year though, he does seem to discard the disguise more and more.
I'm pretty sure that nonsense, vaguely misogynistic claims about Clinton's health belong in the US Politics thread. Assuming one accepts they belong anywhere on the site.
As to the rest...right. Putin is trolling Clinton and throwing help Trump's way because he knows that Clinton will be a pushover, while Trump would be a dangerous opponent. That makes total sense.

Speaking of Clinton, is it true that she wishes to declare war on Russia if she becomes president?
No.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.No. Nobody wants war with Russia.
No. The only people who claim this are Trump supporters who think her no-fly zone in Syria is going to somehow start WWIII. Because hey, the USA has never ever shot down a Russian plane before, right?

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAmbar - That's not Putin, that's his local flunkies trying to please him too hard. Not the first time this has happened, actually.
Vladimir the Great statue unveiled by Putin in Moscow
Subtle.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleMan that is a beautiful statue though.
Oh really when?Oh, Christ, don't tell me that they've turned this into a controversy. It's not a controversy. It's a statue of an important leader of Kievan Rus that had a petition against it signed by several tens of thousands of people, which in a city of 12 million is absolutely nothing, and also made some Ukrainian nationalists angry because they just can't accept that Kievan Rusian historical figures belong to both them and Russia equally.
Also, the article was rather creative with translating Putin's speech.

So there is controversy. Anyway, it's more in the the Guardian's narrative than anything else. Hilarious though.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleYes, but you'd think that there is a threshold how much controversy things have to stir up before earning the title of controversal.

Once you've become a dictator people tend to stop looking for positive reasons why you are acting the way you are.
It's a little bit like if President Trump put up a statue of Andrew Jackson. There are valid reasons to do it, but...
Although you may have to actually be an American to understand the reaction that would cause.
Prince Vladimir wasn't even remotely interested in democracy, though, and would've probably approved of Putin's statesmanship.
That has everything to do with media image and nothing with actual autocratic tendencies. Look at a dictator that's being praised by a media and see how much people will give him the benefit of the doubt.

That's kind of the point Marquis is getting across.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."But wasn't Andrew Jackson the founder of the party that Trump is currently competing against?
Regarding the statue - it kinda doesn't have any real impact when every single non-powerless ruler of Russia has been in favour of autocracy. If Putin wished to erect a statue to a prominent Russian political figure who's notorious for being softer and cuddler and less fixated on personal power than the rest, he'd probably have to commemorate himself, and I wish I was joking here.
