So why exactly would he expect her to endanger a mission over her personal feelings? What part of her behavior says "I am not a saboteur"?

Although yes, he's conflating affection for loyalty and making "bad" decisions fairly regularly.

I never said she would do that, point is she follows Touru not Chaika and that he unreasonable expecting her to share same sentiments despite knowing her for years.

Yeah… I think the burden of proof is on you there, Tenzen. She'll tease and snark and obsess when things are lax, but Akari's very much all business once they need to start fighting/working.

And, yeah, I have no trouble believing that she'd be willing to seriously fight Toru if it was somehow required for her job. She'd probably be reluctant to take a job that's likely to lead to that, but if it ended up happening, she'd complete her mission.

Episode 11. In which there's another.

I like how he doesn't really see it as that strange that she's switched sides.

Taken her capture. Sure.

So, levitation magic only works on the level you're on, and can't be used to gradually go down? Seems arbitrary, and slow fall magic would be very useful.

Okay, how would that application of levitation magic not be effective at getting out? Isn't that exactly the same way?

Title Drop. Well, sort of.

Funny discussion they're having. Who likes killing more or less.

Oh, hey, there they are. The missing girls. I want to say Called It, but it was too obvious. Then I forgot I didn't actually write that here.

Layla's another Chaika. I wonder if it would've been more or less surprising if she wasn't.

Instantly recognised for what she is. And just as instantly taken out. Again. In the forehead, too. Probably hurts more than usual.

She takes landing on her head rather well, I'd say.

Episode just kind of ends.

She actually looks dead.

@Myssa: It's awfully disrespectful to post LN spoilers without marking them as such in a thread predominantly about the anime. You should know this by now.

What I want to know is if Fredrica is as shoehorned in the LN as she is in the anime.

So Frederica manages to bounce back from her recent losing streak in the most hilariously disturbing way possible.

Also interesting to see that rather than getting a complete Nice Job Breaking It, Hero when his strategy goes wrong, the dumbass General Ripper is actually the one who deals the fatal blow to the villains' plans.

Finally the flying fortress battle.

What are the ground troops supposed to do?

HAHAHAHA wtf Fredrica.

They aren't doing anything now.

I like the video game music that kicked in with the suicide ramming attack.

Finally the dragon gets to kill things.

I don't believe for a second that Ricardo can stand up to Toru in iron blood mode. Or he was just waiting to do that.

Well done Akari. And you too Chaika. Was that Guy?

Well that's sweet, but you are forgetting something...

I was not expecting that to happen right now, but season finale is a pretty good time for it.

I'd take that offer, Toru.

Now the wait for season 2 begins.

[up][up] Ricardo only was able to stand up to Toru in Iron Blood mode because saboteou or not, the guy is still human and so he was exhausted from EVERYTHING he had to go through to get up there. also [up] there was no body left, and Vivi finding out about Gillete being presumed dead triggered her transformation into a Chaika. given Guy, I think that may have been on purpouse and he may have Gillete or something. dude's shady as fuck given how he can show up anywhere and also clone himself or something

Episode 12. In which people die.

Yeah, like a giant shot from the army is going to do anything in a series where the army aren't the protagonists.

"The difference probably lies in their magic fuel." Somewhat likely, yes.

That might be the most adorable Chest Burster ever. I was wonder how they'd deal with that.

Let's suicide bomb! Well, got to have one threat left now when the other floating fortress is down.

If they get that far. Actually kind of surprising despite that Ramming Always Works. Especially by someone like him.

It also opens doors.

Chibi-Fredrica wants revenge.

That's one way to end a fight. And completely in character. Strangely satisfying.

That would crush his skull. Well, maybe she held back. Wouldn't count on it, though, her being her. Not that it matters.

You know, giving him a breath of air kind of gets less dramatic in the face of slightly more effective magic. And also, what's so wrong about taking care of your tools?

Another Chaika is born. Wonder what'll happen with that. I kind of like her anyway, so I don't mind more focus that direction.

But honestly, what for me points the most towards someone not being entirely dead is that fortune Vivi got. Those things are always accurate. Especially when they seem false.

I feel like Akari probably did crush his skull. Even if she didn't, he still would've drowned.

Also, Yeah, not buying Gilette's death. That blast wasn't strong enough to completely vapourize people, so they would've found a body if he was dead.

Episode 12:

  • Hey, Fredrica's back! I was worried for nothing. Phew.
  • Well, Mr. General Ripper got the battle he wanted. And he was quite effective, surprisingly. Bravo. Bravo. Now go away.
  • Chaika trying to escape through the vent but failing was funny.
  • Gilette...is still kicking. Vivi's fortune has to count for something, right?
  • Akari and Fredrica got their paybacks in full. It was sweet.
  • If Toru wasn't so tired, Ricardo would've had a harder fight, probably. Oh well, dual stabs solve everything.
  • Chaika Blue froze at the sight of Guy. wild mass guessI bet he was involved in the Chaika Project, and is the ultimate evil.wild mass guess Well, he isn't supposed to be trusted anyways. By the way, nice shot Chaika.
  • And nice save. But wait, your coffin...tongue
  • And so Chaika Blue dies. But at least she was free to do what she did, even if it was a bad cause. And Ricardo...whatever, he's dead, and I ain't looking back.
  • And suddenly, surprise Chaika! A part of their mission was to track down Chaikas, right? Well...they got one!surprisedtongue
  • Fredrica's deal sounds pretty sweet.

Get ready for a new adventure!

I feel like Akari probably did crush his skull.

I feel like the scene was just censored a bit by not showing it from the front. In general, I don't think Akari is really allowed to actually hit anything alive with her hammer if they want to keep this on TV.

Anyway, guess we're getting our D-Knight after all.

And then Vivi was a chaika, overall a great series in my opinion and my favourite of the season, it avoids my most hated tropes for this kind of series:My kung fu is better than yours, unnecessary fanservice and the characters are usually acting like normal humans. I wonder what's in store for next season, sucks waiting 4 months for the next season.

The interesting thing is what they're gonna do with Gillete's group, Vivi's supposedly second in command, but will they follow her for the remains? Will she also get amnesia? and is the chaika thing a curse or the real Vivi's dead since the war and replaced with a copy?

Edit: also it end with a massive fridge horror: All the brainwashed soldiers and prisoners die, with the former realize their in final moments what they done (remember Akari saying she still retains her memories from being controlled)

... unnecessary fanservice and the characters are usually acting like normal humans.
I'd exclude Akari from that. Honestly, she's kind of superfluous.

[up]Well, all the soldiers are kind of implied to have drowned anyway, so at least they didn't have to live with it long, for what little it's worth.

That Fred not-dead reveal scene was exactly the healing I needed after the previous episode's CHOMP, considering I finished Muv Luv Alternative a while ago and am still trying to recover from the trauma.

Chaika and Toru kissing...makes me disappointed. I usually ship characters and all, but I loved their relationship purely as a client and a saboteur. There has been hints of Toru caring for Chaika before, but not quite as explicit as that almost-second-kiss. Really hoping they don't get into a romance and all, I like the way it is with Toru serving her out of his own honor code and beliefs.

[up] The romance seemed to be there all along really. Toru was just using his code as a way of denying it. Fredrica lampshaded it once or twice.

[up][up] Akari is basically the comic relief and designated Moment Killer.

[up][up][up] Well, the prisoners were mostly dead anyway. I wonder if the guards were actually human under that armor. They might have been something like the "guard dogs". Akari's memories came back when the spell was broken. When she took out the wizard the guard dogs and soldiers collapsed rather than have their will return.
