[up][up]You think there might be some slight subtext to a girl using her father's corpse to impregnate herself via cannibalistic tentacle-rape and then getting her womb exploded by her reincarnated father-son's birth?

... Naaah, I don't see it.

What's precedent ever done for us?

"Sub"text? Although I suppose it might've been sufficiently over the top to wrap back around to subtle.

The final battle against Shin was hilarious. That is all I have to say on this episode.

I'm pretty sad that there's no more episodes.

Ending was a bit too fast but sweet, Gaz was dispatched kinda easiely though they get irony points that he made Niva immediately turn against him by targeting Chaika who is no threat whatsoever, for a guy talking a lot about emotions he's less human than his weapon, and ends up dying with no expression.

While I never liked amnesia endings they don't say how much she lost her memories so she might still remember Toru and it's a new begining. Red Chaika probably works in the vineyard, still adorable.

Overall I loved the series, probably the best of 2014, yes, even more than Jojo. The characters are more complex than the average anime, the heroes never go into mary sue moments or have ridiculous game breaker powers and the plot goes in a good pace without going to dark or too silly.

Hoping for an OVA. Also, can anyone make a GIF of red chaika drop kicking the black one?

Did Chaika get permanent brain damage? I'm not talking about plain old memory loss... Akari said something along the lines of, she seems to be feeling well, as if Chaika feeling well is not something that happens often. And Chaika looked even more child-like than usual, in her last scenes. It was a costly funeral, the one she gave her father.

Episode 10. In which it ends.

What's he firing at?

Hey, she can use magic too. And she stands rather cowlegged. Even for classic shoujo anime.

Note to self: When checking voice actresses, stop being surprised at seeing "Hellscythe, Eucliwood" in the list.

So he finally does it.

Also, that arm looks weird. Well, not the arm itself, but you know what I mean.

Magical armour.

Now that's one place where the Instant Runes are excessive.

Half a Chaika gets twice the power from the Conservation of Ninjutsu, right?

She's transforming. Attack her already!

That looks monkey-like.

Hey, "blaust" isn't an English word. Doesn't sound like it's supposed to be "blast". It's however very similar to a Swedish word ("blåst") meaning "gust", which fits the description. By the way, that Chaika's pronunciation is closer to that than the English word.

Boom, headkick.

She gonna use her memories now?

Oh, Fredrica, you never change.

He seems to consider war and fighting the goal of what humans do, rather than as a tool.

Hey, look, a clear shot.

Choice. She has one.

And she's still going for her original goal. Whether he's alive or dead, she's going to give him a funeral.

Boom. That's about Nanoha-class.

And for that choice, she gets to be locked in a storage room.

I like that half-Chaika smile.

Now that's pure fiction.

So, we never did find out what she spent. Well, it wasn't everything, it seems like. Which would be kind of odd.

Well, this felt kind of rushed.

It's funny how after being teased about Dragoon contract the whole series we finally get to see it... and Toru still gets his ass kicked.

Gaz trying to kill Chaika was his undoing. That's what you get for being an asshole.

I had a feeling that she would use her memories again sooner or later.

I find it deeply unpleasant that Niva was put in storage like that. sad

So Red Chaika lives with them now? Well it's not like she has anywhere to go.

It's left ambiguous how much Chaika forgot, but probably not everything.

I have to say this was one of my favorite animes in recent memory. The writing, characters, and action were all superb. I would recommend it to anyone.

[up] My theory is Niva used her own memories to spare Chaika a bit, so she's probably an empty shell at this point.

I wonder if Hartgen even knew about Black Chaika at all?

Overall it was a fun series. Yeah, I could easily recommend this one.

There's one extra episode, but tweets by Bones/Kinema Citrus several weeks ago point to it being a BR special.

Also the author went on to say that the anime finale and the LN finale are more or less "the same, yet different" (take note, the last book comes out at the end of the month I think).

EDIT: Results of the character poll that came after the final episode.

EDIT EDIT: Bones said that the memories Chaika lost were her transplanted memories.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: LN version of DC Tooru and cover of the final book coming out on December 22.

@popularity poll: So basically, the top ten are the cute girls plus Tooru and Gilette. Well, I can't say that's unexpected.

@finale: That was a bit rushed, but more than that it seemed like a very natural ending. Everyone did exactly what we'd expect them to, given their personalities and what had already been established, but the outcome still wasn't quite predictable. Which is a little impressive.

I did kinda want to see Toru offer to fight her afterward.

I think the ending would've worked better if we'd seen Niva spend more time with Chaika and really bond with her. It would've been a very quiet segment, but it'd make the ending just a bit more solid. As it is, it's not completely out of left field, but I would've liked a little more setup.

Very nice funeral, worthy of an emperor.

I think it'd be backwards. She'd be ranked low if she wins because of her sheer powers.

@Winter: I disagree. I thought that moment worked because of how small the stuff between them had appeared. Any more would've made it predictable; and I thought the way Niva turned on Gaz without any hesitation because of just a few seconds of kindness was very powerful.

Final Avenging:

  • Toru did the thing! Class Change! Looked pretty cool.
  • Nice final fights on Akari's side. I especially loved Chaika Red's flying kick.
  • Shin vs. Toru was short, but sweet. ...But Shin didn't have much to say beyond Toru not being saboteur material. ...And it was like that since his very first appearance!
  • This is it, the final battle! ...And Fredrica couldn't do jack! In fact, the class change was a joke in Gaz's eyes. ...Well, it was to be expected.
  • Niva, you do have a heart!waii And so, Chaika completed her directive. Funny that Niva had more human feelings than Gaz.
  • Yet she's in storage. Forever. Kinda sad.
  • What's this? Looks like Red and pals are working at Claudia's. Nice.
  • Akari's novel's bound to be a hit.tongue
  • So let's begin the everyday living. Also, the ED kinda foreshadowed the ending.

At the end of the day, three Chaikas remain.

Good job, guys. Good job.[tup]

@popularity poll: Heh, expected Chaika and Fredrica to be on top. Their mannerisms are awesome, yo.

[up] Correction: two and a half Chaikas. tongue

Final episode was rushed, but that's par for the course for season 2. I actually find it a bit impressive that I still have a positive impression of this series even with all the pacing issues. Any other show Gaz's anticlimactic defeat would have had me sighing. Chaika's just that adorable I guess!

Next step: harem spinoff-slash-sequel about our main guy Tooru, now living with two Chaikas and an Akari free from familial ties.

Tbh i give Fredrica and Toru ( however its spelt idc ) a pass on their loss against Gaz. Because seriously, it's Gaz and the last time Fredrica went up against him there was like a dozen other hyper-competent people with her and Gaz wasn't even trying to fight back. That said, i found it amusing that she was chasing a butterfly at the end because there's seriously no possible way that she could lose to THAT.

who am i kidding with this story's writing i bet that butterfly turned out to be another Guy clone with a nuke in it's stomach or something.

Okay, so I was checking info about random light novel/mangas to find something new to read and...

Why the frick there is character with straight up Finnish name?(Viivi Holopainen) Thats just... Random and weird

Actually, now that I check character page more closely, everyone from that particular group seems to have random combo from different countries?

Given how we're just all waiting on the extra episode, the summary for the last book (the equivalent of episode 10) is out. I'll leave the spoilers for people to judge how differently things went in the book — remember, the intent of the author was always "different paths lead to the same end".

At the very least, the fight with both Gaz and Shinn weren't Anti-Climax Boss fights, at all.
