I hope Tony makes him a new harness.

His Age of Ultron cameo consists of him discreetly stealing supplies and materials from Stark Tower.

Is he going to appear in Age of Ultron? Given the way Winter Soldier ended his absence would be weird but I haven't heard anything about Sam being in the movie.

I think the official word from the actor a couple of months ago was that nobody told him anything and he was starting to get pessimistic because they were so close to shooting.

Which sounds grim but it's possible his scene/scenes wouldn't be shot until later or he's embellishing (lord knows he's not the first MCU actor to stretch the truth). It'd be weird if they didn't reference him AT ALL after the way the movie ended.

I know it won't happen but I kind of want a Falcon movie now. I thought he had a pretty good showing and I'd like his history prior to this movie explored a bit more.

I would like a prequel comic with this guy.

I really think as bad as it sounds, some characters should be supporting or satellite characters. It means writing from them can be really concise to progressing a protagonist character; it also means we don't further over crowd MARVEL's slate, and it doesn't ask viewers to either be not satisfied with a minor character's appearance in their début film so they want to explore them in a sequel, or satisfy an audience with a character, but then ask them to reassess them as a protagonist in their spin off film.

That's why I'm really against the idea of a Black Widow film, and really in favour of MARVEL's method of introducing their characters in their debut films rather than spinning them out of big events like The Avengers.

What I am really in favour of though is exploring this smaller characters in comics and the TV show episodes. The narrative structures are just far more flexible for exploration; you don't need to show all your cards in those mediums.

So yes. Have Falcon appear in SHIELD and give him a comic already!

Someone earlier asked for why "Winter Soldier". Winter Soldier is a name for a soldier who endures the harshest conditions on the toughest times. The term was coined way back 1776 by Thomas Paine in The American Crisis.

Wasn't it referring to those who stuck with Washington during the winter and didn't just pack it up and go back to their homes?

Refering to them in the way I described (as tough people who endure harsh stuff).

I disagree. I want to see a full movie with Black Widow. We've had her past built up so much over... what 3-4 movies now? I think the only satisfactory conclusion to that plot thread is her own movie.

I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.

I didn't care much for Black Widow before, but I really loved her performance in the Winter Soldier. I wouldn't mind seeing her starring her own movie at all.

[up] I'll agree that Winter Soldier did a lot to make her a lot more likable as a character, though if she did get her own movie she'd need the right supporting cast. I think part of what helped was having the right people to play off of.

I can dig it.

I agree that Black Widow is a lot more interesting now that Winter Soldier finally brought her a personality.

I'm not sure what a film staring Black Widow could do but dispel the mystery behind her. You could add more in it's place of course. But what I loved most about her in Winter Soldier is that she's really hard to read, which make these genuine outburst of doubt really interesting. I think narrative about Black Widow have a lot more potential than narratives staring Black Widow, and hence why I think she works best in an ensemble or supporting character, but that's my opinion and I would love to be proven wrong.

I will say I'd rather a film slot be dedicated to introducing a new character to the world rather than fleshing out a character I'm already content with in their current role.

I like the idea of a movie that shows how she and Clint met and started their work with Shield.

So apparently Marvel HAS considered a Black Widow lead film. But just pre-development. No green light otherwise. Eh.

I kind of figure it'd be like a superhero version of a Bond film - very self-contained, she arrives at a problem area only to discover an even greater conspiracy in place than she previously though, lots of intrigue and action, etc. Widow would do pretty well with an "international woman of mystery" type personality, where her character isn't established through backstory as much as though the guile way she deals with situations.

The Bond-villain Big Bad could be a Big Bad from the comics (before Winter Soldier, I was actually hoping something like this would be how we met Strucker), and HYDRA is a textbook evil spy organization so it's easy to pick them. If not, and they wanted to make it the film equivalent of a Girl's Night Out Episode or something, they could use Black Spectre (with some characters on loan from the Femizons, like Iron Maiden - or vice versa, it'd be interesting see Nekra as a Big Bad without them falling into the same voodoo stereotype they do in the comics). The Oddjob-esque dragon (or squad of Elite Mooks) could easily be a supervillain - HYDRA has no shortage of baddies associated with them, but Marvel has tons to choose from anyway. It'd be an interesting way to introduce Taskmaster, though it'd be neat to see Natasha (possibly with Hawkeye) forced to take on a villain whose just a little out of what would normally be considered her area of expertise, someone with superpowers - not too powerful, but not someone who's another martial artist. Like maybe someone (or someones) from the Serpent Society, Grim Reaper or Typhoid Mary (on the subject of Daredevil villains, I'd love to see a Hawkeye plot involve Bullseye in some way).

The last few Marvel movies have been fond of adapting villains who reform or are at least more morally ambiguous and playing them as straight-out villains, so I could see them adapting Songbird, Wonder Man or Diamondback (well, maybe not her. If she does appear it's probably not going to be in anything but a Captain America movie) that way.

I could also see a Black Widow movie just defaulting to the Red Guardian or something, though.

There's a storyline in the comics in which Widow sent special tokens out a long time ago to people she feels she's wronged in the course of her pre-S.H.I.E.L.D. career, each one redeemable for a massive favor from one of the world's greatest super-spies. Basically, "I took away someone you loved very deeply, and hurt you tremendously in the process. If you ever find yourself between a rock and a hard place, cash this in and I will come fix your life."

That could be the focus of a Black Widow movie, with drama rising from the fact that nobody who's been a victim of the Black Widow would be happy to see her again; anyone who actually calls in one of those token favors would have to be pretty desperate, and the character interactions aren't going to be very positive at the start.

It could also be a Black Widow origin story, using the focus of "What Natasha did to this person and how she is now trying to fix it by protecting them from whatever villainous plot the story revolves around" to explore how Natasha left her old life behind and became an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. The origin told through flashbacks staggered throughout the film, wherever relevant to the story happening in the present.
