The game in question.

A quick ping through the forum titles tells me that although we do have a thread for this game's predecessor (that's been dead for two years), there aren't any threads up and running for this RTS. This half-surprised me: it's a pretty grognardy game with a steep learning curve, to be sure, but it's also loads of fun and incredibly rewarding once you know what you're doing.

So, anyone else commanding whole brigades of Category-A Soviet tanks on the Highway to Oslo, or through the forest of Gol?

Well I've bought Wargame: Red Dragon and am currently playing the beta, but I'd advise you to avoid it for the moment. It's really buggy, the beacons don't work, and you can't even use the naval units yet, nor do the maps offer any real amphibious crossing opportunities. Another thing I'm not liking is that they've cut down the max amount of units even more: either you're gonna end up specializing in a few elite units in the hopes that the enemy doesn't notice your empty flanks and not lose ANY pf said elite units, period, or suffer once the inevitable chopper-CV point rush happens. I wish they'd be more generous with the command CP, bring it back to the old Wargame: EE levels. Sure they'd be spam, but it's not that terrible of an issue.

Betas are like that, yeah. I'm in no rush to get the game; I can wait for a Steam sale. As I understand from chatter elsewhere, no more buying 20 trained-level M2 Bradleys or Strf 9040s with one card—that's a pity, but it does seem something of a Obvious Rule Patch. (I'd only learned fairly recently the secret to using IFVs in large numbers to support an armored advance.)

The Hog rushes were nerfed somewhat too. They're still pretty annoying and their range is outside of most .50 cal machineguns and autocannons, meaning that they can potentially peck you to death with rockets and grenades, but it's balanced out by their poor accuracy and armor.

IFV rushes are still more or less the same (as in completely goddamn annoying) however, though having a well-hidden flamethrower tank ambush their IF Vs and infantry in a town works wonders to slow down the offensive and rack up the kills.
