... That makes sense. But then diplomacy becomes crucial.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

I say that "those guys" are the Royal Guard.

In my fic, Arendelle City is actually a purpose-built capital, with the real population centers being in other areas of the country.

My fic also assumes the village is simply the capital city of a larger country. You can't be the queen of one small village. That's just stupid. Besides, didn't Frozen Fever show a map of Arendelle and the castle was just a teeny tiny part of it, with the country extending off-screen?

Curiously enough, the "Memory and Magic" children's book has a throwaway line about Elsa's and Anna's relatives, but it's never elaborated on. I mean, they must have relatives, but I wonder if they're alive or dead or if they were helping run the country during the 3 years before the coronation...

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

Maybe those individuals were deceased. Obviously, there are no canon relatives that are shown. The Tangled version of Rapunzel being a cousin to Anna and Elsa is also a non-canon idea that only exists in the world of fanfics, so that doesn't count.

And technically, the movie never answered who was ruling Arendelle during the three years between the king's death and Elsa's coronation. I believe there was plans to show a regent running Arendelle, but this was cut for time and plot irrelevance. Therefore, it's been up to the fanfic writers to determine their own interpretation as to who ruled Arendelle during that period.

I mean, when I mentioned the Secret Passages fic, its Chapter 25 offers one possible solution as to who was in charge of Arendelle, as shown in this paragraph:

"There was also the trouble that because Elsa was just barely nineteen and therefore not of age yet, she still didn't have the absolute authority the monarch of Arendelle would have. She could conduct business, yes, but she didn't have the authority to repeal laws or put new ones in effect. It was actually rather complicated. Elsa still had to sign documents as 'Crown Princess Elsa on behalf of the late King Agdar and Queen Idun' or something else similar. If Anna asked her to open the gates, Elsa literally could not make that happen because her parents' ruling that the gates stayed closed was still in effect. Of course, Elsa supposed that she probably couldn't get in trouble for such a thing since she was still the highest-ranking person of authority in Arendelle, but the circumstances were…unique. To put it simply, Elsa was regent, ruling in her parents' stead with no actual power of her own, until she turned twenty-one."

Another thing that bothered me was that, during Anna and Elsa's absence during the movie, the people who seem to be left in charge are Hans and the foreign dignitaries. Hans was officially put in charge by Anna, but even for that I wonder if a Princess is qualified to do that for someone who is essentially a foreigner without any ties to Arendelle (they are not even fiancéd).

Anyway, sometimes I feel it best to avoid overanalysing things. I did my best to avoid having to clarify those details in my fic, because they were not the focus of the movie (and not of my fic either). MST3K Mantra and all that.

I agree, there are some things in Frozen that are better off not being overanalyzed (Elsa's ice powers, for instance and where they came from). The same way your head will explode trying to figure out such things as the purpose of the seashells in Demolition Man.

Back on topic.....

I think, when it comes to Arendelle geography, that fanfic that had Anna, Elsa and Kristoff travel to a neighboring kingdom where there's a prince with fire powers had the idea Arendelle sits in the exact spot as Arendal, Norway.

I think having Arendelle at the same place as Arendal kinda fits with the map we briefly see in Frozen Fever (with the Southern Isles being Denmark, and closer). Then again, the exact location of Arendelle is not extremely important either (I consider it is located in Scandisneyvia, personally wink), unless it's part of the plot.

Scandisneyvia. How is that pronounced? Scan-dis-nay-vi-uh?

I guess so. I do have to confess I did not really ponder on the English pronounciation, so whatever a native speaker can come up with is fair game.

In my fic, Arendelle replaces Norway, Weselton replaces Sweden, and The Southern Isles replaces Denmark.

Ever have that moment where ficbunnies visit you in your dreams, and then you wake up and only have small fragments left?

Apparently my subconscious wants Hans to be a space marine for the 40K crossover. Which can work. Perhaps he's a Thousand Sons sympathizer who believes they have a point with the "knowledge is knowledge, it's not good or bad, it's just knowledge that can be used for either, so we should learn it and use it for good" thing that the Sons have going on. Or perhaps he would have been a shoo-in for command, and resents that 40K!Elsa/Anna got leadership of the Great Company despite being unable to take all the implants and surgeries that actually make a full space marine due to being women.

Then again it also wants Kristoff to be a space marine, and that's not gonna work, because Kristoff is far more useful as a normal human soldier.

I've been revising my old writing, and this line jumped out to me. I nominate this as the grossest joke in the whole fanfic:

Fritz's stomach growled. He watched, entranced, as Elsa brought the final piece to her mouth. Fritz was about to ask if he could have that one, but then Elsa stuck out her tongue and licked every inch of it. Fritz stared at the spit-covered candy.

...Now he wanted it even more.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

[up]The thing is, most of Fritz's jokes go along the lines of, "Fritz thinks Elsa's sexy and he's all flustered, ha ha ha!" But then for this one joke, it comes across more as, "Fritz probably collects Elsa's stray hairs in a plastic baggie, ha ha... ha..."

(For context, Elsa wasn't, like, trying to be sexy or anything. Fritz was just watching her eat chocolate.)

Yes, well. As such things go, you're talking to the person who once wrote a character whose greatest expression of affection was that they had a special knife for if they ever had to stab a certain person; nothing but the best for them.

So on a scale of 1 to starring as the UnSub in Criminal Minds, I think that rates a 1.2 at most.
