I was raised on a lot of classic chidren's books. Paddington Bear was not one of them. Has anyone read the books or seen any shows about the character?

I still have the book somewhere in my closet, and I love it. Count this as another 2014 movie I'm looking forward to.

Looking at the cast list, I recognized that we have King George VI, Molly Weasley and Horace Slughorn, and our most recent Doctor.

We also have Nicole Kidman and Sally Hawkins.

It looks promising.

Hollywood, stop fucking with my childhood. Live action Paddington?

BLASPHEMY!!! [lol] this is not my cup of tea but it would be interesting to see how badly this turns out.

On the one hand, I always loved Paddington, and this could be great. On the other hand, I can't help but feel that someone's only doing this because of the standard Hollywood trend of hunting down old popular stuff that can be milked for fresh profit. I suppose it comes down to whether or not the creators are people who genuinely appreciate and understand the source material. That's what made the Tintin movie good, after all.

Eh, not a fan of the CGI- Live Action Hybrid. Most of these tend to be terrible and given this is the director's second directorial debut, I'm not super convinced.

Call me old school, but I still think the original shorts were the best

Well, at least it's not going the route of the Smurf movie. That is one point going for it.

You debut your second film?

Or you quit showbiz to retire/ move on, only to come back to it a la Miyazaki.

Well considering that those shorts were a hybrid of hand-drawn and stop-motion animation, maybe a hybrid is the best way to translate that to a movie!

I remember having one of those shorts on tape along with the toy and the first book, and Paddington's outfit changed at some point between them.

[up][up][up][up][up][up] Actually this film isn't being made by Hollywood this time. But in the UK, here's the second trailer.

I don't remember the stories being quite that slapsticky, but I'm willing to give this a chance.

I remeber Paddington. Am I the only one who thought he was Dutch?

Of course he's not Dutch, he's Peruvian.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

So according to the BBFC, this movie, and dozens of other kids film have "sex references" for a gag about disguising as a woman. Hide the kids!

So when I went to see Big Hero 6 in theaters (awesome film BTW) this is the trailer they gave us:

So, the charming British story about a funny foreign bear living in modern england is now a conspiracy film with an evil taxidermist as the bad guy pursuing them. Flat "What" The Hell.

[up][up]Really sure that's from a parody website, judging by its other headlines.

He's got a pretty deep voice for a cub-sized bear.

And poor Nicole Kidman needs some pay again.

I'll admit that the original book isn't really structured for a straight film adaptation. But dear Lord, is this really the best plot they could pull out of their asses?

...so this woman finds a talking bear and her goal is to KILL AND STUFF IT? Not make him a tourist attraction like the usual cliché but KILL him? That's like Stromboli skipping the entire touring business and going straight to chopping up Pinnochio for firewood!

...great, now I'm imagining Creepy Paddington singing "I've Got No Strings" in James Spader's voice.
