Oh come on, are you telling me nobody's made a thread on grindcore?! I believe I will start one myself.

That being said, I don't know if this will even get any replies and I'm not sure how many people here even have that kind of taste, since grindcore etc. is pretty polarising anyway. But I guess it's worth a shot at asking if there's any grind fans.

I've been listening to a fair amount of Pig Destroyer and Beaten to Death myself along with this band I found on Bandcamp called Malevolent Spells. I ordered Pig Destroyer's Prowler in the Yard a few days ago, still listening to Phantom Limb. (As far as listening to the classic grindcore bands, I'm still pretty entry-level.)

I prefer deathgrind above all other genres though. There seems to be less "humorous" bands clogging up the genre.

As for goregrind, I don't pay much attention to that since I don't think there's many good bands in there, but I have Carcass' Symphonies of Sickness and I like giving that a listen every now and then. (I also like GO-ZEN's music.) I avoid pornogrind as much as I can, so I have nothing to say on that.

I don't listen to very much grind beyond the classic stuff. What I heard of Pig Destroyer was alright but their semi post/sludge metal stuff is lame as hell IMO. !.T.O.O.H.!'s first two albums are pretty great, Carbonized's as well if you want prog/tech/avant-garde grindcore.

I don't think Pig Destroyer have gone anywhere near post-metal. But their sludge metal stuff...isn't that stuff like Natasha, Mass & Volume? I usually stay away from that (not because I dislike them, I just have no interest in them) although I will sometimes feel the urge to check them out, which I never do. The last few tracks of Prowler in the Yard (like Hyperviolet) are a bit sludgy but still kinda grind-y too, those are the ones I love.

...!.T.O.O.H.! sound familiar. I think I have one of their tracks in a free grindcore compilation I once downloaded but I don't think I've listened to it. I'll remember Carbonized. I have a looooooong list of bands to check out and I'm trying not to buy too much stuff right now.

I haven't listened to Natasha in a while, but I do remember enjoying it. I wouldn't call it "post-metal," though, at least not in the sense that the term is usually used.

Hmm. Actually, the last grindcore-type release I listened to was that Nails LP, which was solid if not as varied as it could have been. Then again, variety is not the point in these genres; the sensation of being repeatedly smacked in the head with a brick is. I happen to like that sensation... metaphorically.

I don't listen to much grind...a little bit of Pig Destroyer, as well as Carcass (their later stuff too, but that ain't grind anymore), but the main grind band I like is Intestinal Disgorge, admittedly more for the "offend as many people as possible as much as possible" aspect rather than any musical depth that the band may or may not have.

Somehow you know that the time is right.

[up][up]I've been hearing a lot of good things on Nails' new album. Abandon All Life, was it? I like that metaphor, though. Ahaha.

[up]I've heard of people listening to Jig-Ai and wearing their hoodies in public for that very reason.

T.O.O.H.! are partially avant-garde/tech/death metal, part of why I enjoy them more. As aggressive as you'd expect but they smoothly integrate a lot of odd jazz/folk/classical stylings into their music.

They go further death metal afterwards.

I guess I like the rawer "old school" style of grind, like Repulsion, Terrorizer and early Napalm Death. Most of the more polished Relapse Records grind, I just find boring.

Transgressor from Japan had a pretty good run as a death/grind band, then as a death/doom one, then a brutal death metal one, then back to good old death/doom metal.

[up][up][up]The first video was...okay to good, but I listened to the second one in the link, it's some great stuff. I tend to prefer grind with strange influences to simple grind overall. If I'm in the mood I'll listen to anything grind but I often feel compelled to come back to grind with other influences. I'll listen to the other stuff later. I'm listening to stuff on my iPod right now.

Every time I walk into a CD store, I feel the need to look for Napalm Death and take a look at the C Ds there. I don't know why. Oh. Relapse is probably the label most of my grind bands are signed to. That or independent.

The only grind I care for is the early stuff (Napalm, Terrorizer, Repulsion, etc). I listened to Agoraphobic Nosebleed's Altered States of America album and thought it was the silliest thing this side of a Monty Python album.

Well, it is silly, but I think that's part of the pleasure of it. Sometimes the absurdity highlights rather than detracts from the brutality: Consider Sissy Spacek's self-titled LP, which is ridiculous in some respects yet also absolutely, relentlessly pummelling.

Beaten to Death's latest album does that quite well. Although a lot of "humorous" grindcore I've heard has a major problem with "bonk bonk bonk" drums, probably a result of production not being taken seriously because it's, y'know, a humour thing.

Oh yeah, anyone here heard Trocotombix? The answer to this is probably going to be no but I enjoy their music anyway. I forgot what all their songs sounded like bar the Advance EP (even though Last.fm Free Downloads is the only proof that it actually exists) so I'll put the Bandcamp here.
