That's definitely gonna be a thing when I get to Arendelle in my fic, too. Riku, Kairi, and Sora all get to see snow for the first time... and promptly realize that it's a WAY colder climate than they're accustomed to.

I'm really excited to get there because of the scene with Riku and Sora meeting Elsa, Xaldin's involvement, and Nobody Hans. ovo I still need to figure out if I wanna have Prince John become a Heartless in the Robin Hood world, though, and what animals everyone is going to be. Kairi's probably gonna be a cat or a lioness to reflect her Po H status. Riku... not entirely sure, and Sora may be a rabbit. I am totally open to suggestions, though!

Your story diverges before Riku and Sora go to Christmas Town or the Land of Dragons, right? I can't always remember what everyone's writing.

Wolf seems fitting for Riku. Badass with a touch of sinister.

I was gonna say, Sora didn't seem to have any problems in the Chinese mountains or at the North Pole...

It diverges in early KH 1. Riku gets the Keyblade due to Sora reaching him before he can even think about opening up to the darkness, and then everything just kinda gradually changes up until KH 1's end, when it takes on a different route. A LOT has changed, including Sora being stuck as a humanoid Heartless, Aqua being out of the Realm of Darkness, Riku Replica being alive and a Keyblade wielder, Roxas having altered versions of Sora's memories... It's literally a long story.

There's a good point, re: the Chinese mountains, but I honestly think a lot of things are kinda glossed over in the games. Like Donald and Goofy being treated as totally normal in worlds without talking animals. I think it'd be fun to play with the DI kids' reactions to cold.

And I was thinking wolf for Riku, or some kinda canine. That or a silver fox.

I've long figured the world travelers have to have some sort of Weirdness Censor up. That's the only explanation I can come up with for Hayner! Pence! Olette! describing Mickey as having big ears rather than being a goddamn anthropomorphic mouse.

I think that makes sense, too. It just leads to some awkward questions, like why they have to disguise themselves in some worlds (Halloween Town) but not others.

I admit to actually playing with them being oddballs in my fics, mostly because I think it can be fun to ponder how the various worlds might interpret Donald and Goofy.

Okay, if I'm remembering aright, the only worlds where our heroes' appearances change are Timeless River, Space Paranoids, Halloween Town, Pride Lands, and Atlantica. Timeless River and Space Paranoids I'm pretty sure change them by virtue of the planar characteristics involved, not because Donald magic'd up something. Atlantica the transformation comes in handy for breathing and shit. Pride Lands is populated by animals without any of this anthropomorphic nonsense of clothes and so forth, so that's a significant enough difference to justify a little extra wizardry. That leaves us with Halloween Town, who are varied and freaky enough that I could see them flat not having a Weirdness Censor.

Basically, I think any world of people that are some form of human, inclusive of bipedal animals in white gloves, is going to see visitors as looking like them. Beyond that, you're gonna have trouble. As far as Disney worlds left unvisited goes, I think that just means that someone who goes to Jungle Book land without special preparation is going to get some pointed questions about man's red flower.

Funny you mentioned Jungle Book. I actually chose to have Riku and co. turn into animals because I felt it would be more interesting that way. The result was that Shere Khan later found out that Riku was a human masquerading as a leopard, which both infuriated and (on some level) intimidated him.

I mostly chose that route because I felt that having Riku and Kairi as humans would undermine the fact that Mowgli is the only human throughout the bulk of the story. I think it is one of those worlds that could work either way, though.

EDIT: I did have Demyx keep his human form when he went to deal with King Louie, though. Needless to say, he had a rough time due to being a water wielder. :') Axel was in disguise and dealt with Khan.

Yep! As a matter of fact, it was Kaa who revealed to Shere Khan that Riku was actually a human. The night after they dealt with King Louie, he found them due to the fire they created with magic and tried to make them into a snack.

They scared him off thanks to some Thundaga from Donald, but he overheard them chatting from the bushes, then spilled the beans to Shere Khan. Axel in turn used this to push Khan a little bit further into the darkness. B)

I basically used all the main characters except the wolves and the elephants, who were cut mainly for pacing and plot reasons. Axel was a jackal as a nod to Tabaqui from the original book. It was a total blast to write, though my favorite world in that fic was actually the Great Mouse Detective adaptation.

Goofy, is for lack of better words, complicated. He doesn't like weapons so should I have him use White Magic with the handwave that White Magic is the easiest to learn or should I just say fuck it and have the self insert make a pimped out version of Save The King? I mean, he's already making psychically controlled attack drones and human sized humanoid robots, the ZZ Gundam and a new design for their next-gen battleships which are not expies of the Ra Cailum. Nope. so making a pimped out shield should be a breeze. Unless if he has to enchant it, then he can't do a thing.

Daisy could be a Lady of Black Magic, or at least a subversion of it, personality wise.

Minnie is going to be a FF 1!White Mage.

So Goofy isn't a knight still? I think you could base his skillset off of his abilities in-game and perhaps borrow from the knight classes in FF.

Anyway, I'm presently puzzling over a few things. First, how the heck does the Hercules timeline even work in KH? It takes so many weird liberties in KH 2 that it makes me scratch my head. Like the Titans being summoned willy nilly for the tournaments, Herc seemingly forgetting how he beat the Hydra before...

Do you think it'd be acceptable to just... borrow from the movie instead? There are a lot of elements from the film I'd love to toy with, like Megara still being under Hades' thumb. It'd be fun to make the Titans as big a threat as they were in the film.

Also, since I want to use Zack... deciding on a reasonable fate is tricky. The easy route is to have him dead, but I feel like there could be other possibilities, too. Another thought is that he could've been spirited away by Sephiroth and thrown in a cell to be experimented on in Radiant Garden. Could've been taken by Hades to use as a bargaining chip for Cloud and Sephiroth was the one who nabbed him...

I dunno, but since KH 3 probably won't be out for a few years, I need at least a semi-decent explanation to work him in. This is especially pertinent with Aqua being part of the main cast. She'd ask about him for sure.

The games' general ethos seems to be "steal whatever bits from the films you think will be be fun," so you might as well do the same.

As I recall, it actually said that he doesn't like weapons, hence the shield specialization. Not that he has anything against combat in general. For all we know, he just accidentally shanked something one too many times and swore off carrying sharp instruments.

Goofy seems to follow the "So long as no stabbing or shooting is involved blunt force truama is perfectly safe and everyone will recover from getting their face bashed in with a solid metal plate a few minutes later dazed but unharmed." line of thinking.

Hmm, working on outlines for my next fic and am integrating a world based on Incredibles. I'm just torn on how to start it. A few ideas I'm considering: Riku and co. have their Gummi Ship shot down as they pass over Syndrome's island, where they have a run-in with Mr. Incredible/possibly the Omnidroid.

Another option I'm considering is them showing up in the city and warding off a Heartless attack, attracting unwanted attention due to supers having been in hiding for at least a few decades. That government agenta fella would pull them in for questioning... I dunno, still tossing ideas around a bit.

What I do know is that Edna Mode is gonna be a designer for Keyblade armor as well as super uniforms. Also, Lexaeus will probably be the resident Organization member.

I would have her working with the Fairies or at least someone magical so she can have any armor/clothes that she makes be magical.

Also, I was thinking of a Dark Knight character who is very idealistic and is essentially a reconstruction of all those Shonen tropes except Good is Dumb.

I was also thinking of a deconstruction of a Shonen rival. Instead of the main characters hating/respecting him because he's their worthy opponent, they just outright hate him for being an Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy and a bigot in one package.

I get the feeling that Time Magic should be really rare and hard to use. Think about the class's original Japanese name: Dimentional Mage. They're not altering time, as something like Haste would age the target into a skeleton. They altering reality itself.

A skeleton? Dude, the more powerful Hastes make people a whole two times as fast. A subjective hour in combat instead of half of one is not going to skeletonize anyone.

Time magic's probably less common than black or white on account of Haste not making it into KHII, but, I mean, Final Fantasy has it sold in shops like any other magic.

Or maybe I'm just thinking about it too hard.
