Why does this bother you so much? It's not like they're replacing magic with vague super science. They're replacing vague super science A with vague super science B.

Because vague super science B is even stupider than the official explanation.

I was kidding. I mean, I don't think Mr. Fantastic's powers really need to be explained (unless it's relevant to the plot in some way, and "black hole cells" sounds like it might be), but if they're just gonna have some Technobabble to address it, that's pretty much fine.

I think that it is always a bad idea to get too sciency in movies, especially when you try to BS something. The closer to real science the explanation is, the more the audience pays attention and starts to think about it. But if you tell them "gamma rays turn people into monsters" they shrug and just accept it.

Ironically that was one of the problems I had with Interstellar, too, which doesn't quell my feeling that this is the direction the movie wants to take.

warping his own space feels to me as a better explanation than being made of rubber.

So if Mr. Fantastic isn't rubbery in this version, can he be cut by knives and stuff? Can he make things around him as stretchy as himself? Do his clothes automatically stretch now no matter what he's wearing?

His containment suit is made to accomodate his stretchyness and has springs in place to return him to form. So I'd guess his powers are now incontinent.

My problem is warping the space around him isn't the same thing as stretching. The former can be used to accomplish the latter but it also has its own host of Required Secondary Powers and additional applications that will probably just be ignored.

Actually, I'm more worried that a "realistic" Mr. Fantastic will just look disgusting.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

And that's what Josh "I love Cronenberg" Trank wants, actually.

[up] Really? It's usually looked pretty clean to me provided he's not being subject to some kind of unnatural external force specifically designed to make him look nasty.

The human body stretching like rubber is always going to fall into the uncanny valley. I'm surprised the comics don't play up more how freaky it would be.

I wonder if they pulled another science-y explanation for the powers of each other Fantastic Four. And if so, I would really like to see how they justified Ben's.

Sigh. I'm fine with Johnny and Franklin Storm being black. Sure, it's not true to the comics, but remember, this is an adaptation, guys.

What I don't understand though, is this: why is Susan white and... adopted? Wut? Were they afraid of Reed and Susan being an interracial couple or something?

Or maybe they just wanted Kate Mara.

Plus, black people adopt white people. Its a thing that happens that you don't actually see in movies a lot.
