Well, it sure did pick an awkward time to be revealed.
Wake me up at your own risk.Yeah. I *WANT* to be excited but... She Who Shall Not Be Named kinda has her shadow hanging over everything.
Even worse to me when I'm so pumped for Cyberpunk for it's LGBT (ESPECIALLY the T) inclusion and... then we have Harry Potter which could be rather regressive by comparison.
At the very least, I really adore their Hogwarts design since it seems like they're taking a lot of the designs from the book at face value and giving them a completely new look. Which, good for them. I just... can't get myself hyped for anything Harry Potter anymore. :(
…Not a great time to release a Harry Potter game. Pity, because it looks cool.

I'll just leave this here to stew on: "Creator ≠ Work". There needs to be some distinguishment for both.
Hope: "Let's go. We'll be together." Lightning: "I only know... that soon, we'll be together."Perhaps, but I don't want problematic creators to receive income that they can use to continue being problematic.
SoundCloudI don’t know, I assume Rowling will get at least some money from this?
ah, re’d

Still, associating everything to the one problematic person is a fallacy. There are other people who worked hard and thus deserve the revenue they get.

Hope: "Let's go. We'll be together." Lightning: "I only know... that soon, we'll be together."Especially considering how much she uses that income to host her own personal crusade within the politics of her country of residence. It might not mean as much here in the US but she's a nightmare at home.
Death of the Author is better suited when the author is actually dead and unable to collect an income and power on your investment. It doesn't quite work the same in our modern world, unfortunately.
That's also where it gets a bit conflated. Lots of hands on one project. However, considering these Potter properties tend to always mention "FROM THE MIND OF J.K. ROWLING" as a selling point of some kind; cool, it's a negative selling point for me, thank you very much. I cannot disassociate Rowling from the Potter world and that's not my fault considering how clingy she's been to the brand for so long.

IIRC, leaks say she doesn't have creative control over this project?
but also like still profiting off her IP so eh
To what extent people want to distinguish a work from its creator is their choice to make. I don't think it's invalid for people to not want to associate with HP as a franchise anymore.
Huh, is this an MMO or something?
For what it's worth, it's not like Rowling kept her problematic views separate from the franchise. For example, one character was, looking back, probably a transphobic caricature.

SoundCloudSeems pretty sandbox-y at least, considering how vague the trailer is on the story.

I'm not defending Rowling or what she thinks. However, to quote a friend of mine: "One rotten apple doesn't means the whole tree is rotten as well."
And for what its worth, the game's pretty interesting IMO.
Hope: "Let's go. We'll be together." Lightning: "I only know... that soon, we'll be together."Open-World RPG. Create your own character, pick your house, etc. Presumably choices and consequences and leaked material suggests 'good v. evil' being a thing. No idea about 'romance' either.
No, but the actual phrase is "One rotten apple spoils the bunch". A rotten apple in a barrel of ripe perfect apples WILL spoil the entire barrel. The rotten quality is contagious.
Hell, I hate considering it because I'd wanted this game for so long and now it came way too late for me.

Huh, late 19th Century. Guess we'll have to make do with people like the Fat Lady and the House ghosts for familiar faces.
Wake me up at your own risk.Okay, but the creator of the property is not a singular apple. More like the roots of the tree. If that's rotten, one can't be blamed for not wanting to buy apples that came from that tree.
Also, y'know, what InkDagger said.

Trans rights are human rights.Concerns about JK Rowling running her mouth have rattled the studio since June apparently. They still expect the game to sell like gangbusters, but this isn’t helping one bit.

Lol at the thread title because there have been plenty of harry potter games lately
New theme music also a boxIt was made in 2014 so....
Maybe it's time for a rename?
In fact, I'm going to holler and ask for that.

Trans rights are human rights.TBH, it probably needs a separate threat entirely as not even the first post will be about the game.
Good lord its been 6 years since we first heard about this game.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."They also chose perhaps the worst time to announce it.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
Hogwarts Legacy is supposed to be open world
