Your to-see list for 2014

Pretty standard: what films do you know you're going to see this year?

Generally, I don't have many definite to-see films unless they're part of a series that I know I already enjoy (so that includes this year's new Hobbit and Hunger Games films).

Other than that, I'll definitely check out Interstellar; it sounds like it has an Alien-y or Event Horizon-y vibe to its premise, and I enjoyed both of them, plus, well, it's Christopher Nolan (how that man got this out so quickly after Man of Steel is beyond me).

Besides that, I'll probably see Jupiter Ascending, though I'll check out the reviews first - like I said in that other thread, the premise sounds like one that has to be handled carefully to work properly.

Otherwise, I'll go where the critics direct me. You?

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes...and that's pretty much it. To be honest, 2014 doesn't look very exciting.

Mockingjay Part I, the finale to The Hobbit, and The Amazing Spider Man 2. And probably Cap 2: The Winter Soldier, because I've been hooked by the Marvel movies despite none of them except the Avengers rising above average.

And her, probably, which will be in theatres soon.

The Lego movie looks like the worst thing in the world; nobody should see that.

The Lego Movie looks good, and most likely the annual Disney flick...otherwise, it depends very much on the reviews.

  • X-Men: Days of Future Past. It's not often you see a franchise recover after two stinkers, but they seem to have pulled it off, effectively remaking one and using a prequel to set up some backstory.
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I'm not a big cap fan but holy CRAP did the preview look awesome.
  • 22 Jump Street. Because the original was hilarious.
  • Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Because I don't think any proper film noir is going to be made again, so I'll have to settle with this. Still, the visual style is too... effective I guess is the word for me not to like it.
  • 301, err, 300: Rise of an Empire. To laugh at, if nothing else- I like how they're still going the 'leather battle panties' route and calling it 300 despite the Spartans not really being involved.
  • The Hobbit: There and Back Again. For completeness' sake. Frankly, these movies are a case study in "why a loss of creative limits can be a bad thing," but the book's a childhood favorite and I'm going to grit my teeth and see it anyway.

Don't really have one. How to Train Your Dragon 2 may be the singular movie I see this year but I am not going if it is only on Three Dee. Which I despise.

Noah. Either it'll be horrific or Aronofsky will pull something out the hat and really surprise me. Will be worth a watch either way.
