Bubsy (may) be back on Steam!
The Protomen enhanced my life. You know how we all thought Bubsy 3D getting a 93% score and a Gold X Award from PS Extreme Magazine was fake?
The Protomen enhanced my life.I believe that just proved the adage, "There's no such thing as something that's too stupid to happen."
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. It's been 21 years since then. I wonder what Dave would think of the game/his review now XD
The Protomen enhanced my life. The silhouetted new character in Sonic Forces is drawing TONS of Bubsy comparisons to the point that it's the first Google search result for Bubsy in general XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.Hell, if Bubsy does start going to other games, I think there's only one rational response - Bubsy for Smash 5. And before anyone complains, look what they did to Duck Hunt Dog.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Jaw Drop heard round the world.
I thought it'd follow up on Bubsy 3D's good ending and be called Bubsy 4: Purr-historic times or something XD Either way this was unexpected!
Between this, the new Sonic games, the new Mario games, and the Crash Bandicoot trilogy remakes, all we need now’s a new Spyro and Rayman game/remake!

The Protomen enhanced my life.WHAT
I don't friggin believe it. I had always wondered what would happen if someone tried to revive Bubsy (original company or not), but I never thought it would actually happen. This officially has my attention.

"Don't worry, Lucian, we'll make it through this."I'm weirdly psyched for this. I think I'm going to preorder this for kicks.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Holy shit they're bringing Bubsy back!! More excited for this than Sonic Forces

Wow, those jumps look floaty as hell.
"What could pawsibly go wrong?" indeed.
I actually really like the speed Bubsy would go, but the zoomed in camera always hurt the game.
This isn't as fast.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."That's Bubsy's glide thing.

I imagine he'll still be as vulnerable as ever.
...Why?

Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundI think that was one thing that was consistent with the Bubsy games, at least with the 2D platformers. There were a lot of things that could kill Bubsy in one hit, even things such as falling down from too high.
Wait, I think I checked calendar wrong. Is it April 1st already?
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It looks really bad. Look at the background freaking out during that gliding scene.
That being said... The sheer audacity of bringing Bubsy back is making me smile. Maybe, maybe I'll give it a shot.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Well, I'll give it this: it can't possibly be as bad as Bubsy 3D.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundThis was a missed opportunity to do with Bubsy what Rare did with Conker: make a flippant, adult-themed, and, most importantly, dark take on this generic platforming animal.
More specifically, I wanted to see something in the vein of Bad Fur Day's finale. Have Bubsy the Bobcat develop a crippling drug addiction since we last left him; have his loved ones drift away from him because he's such a good-for-nothing; have him struggle as a washed-up hero, unable to adjust to him current, hellish predicament, always yearning for the "good ol' days"; have him explore the dark and twisted underbelly of the world he inhabits as he tries (and ultimately fails?) to find himself. Hell, "go there" and have him contemplate suicide — again, not unlike Conker. Basically, make a brutal meta-commentary on mascot platformers from the days of yore.
Bubsy is the perfect Mascot Platformer specimen for this because, in addition to being an actual, (in)famous creation, a fact which lends more levity/hilarity to such a tale, no one truly cared about the feline in the first place, so no one could possibly take offense to this sort of take on the character. At best, he was an annoying star of a trio of mediocre platforming games. At worst, he was an annoying little cunt in one of the worst games ever made.
Oh, and play it all completely straight. There'd be nothing more bizarrely hilarious/weirdly depressing than having what would amount to Watchmen but for failed 90s mascot platformers.
Shame I won't ever see such a deconstructive, introspective take on the Mascot with Attitude. Yeah, I know I'm fucking weird for wanting such a thing — maybe I'm really just jonesing for a Conker sequel, and that's never going to happen — but it's better than resurrecting Bubsy to make... another mediocre/bad platformer. Couldn't they have at least made another one as memorably awful as 3D? Least that'd be good for shits and giggles.
Jokes aside, it seems pretty generic. A lot slower than the originals and the art style is meh at best.
