Disney's Moana

I know nerds are cool now..... but casting them in the leads of animated movies is getting stale.

Hey Moana Thread, let's hope these next 2 years just fly by.

Using Maui as the Demigod is cool. His legends are very Guile Hero esque, so this should be neat.

I hope they be subtle with the "nerd" thing.

I think she'll have a passion for navigation and stars, it fits with the ocean theme, and that's kinda smart-people-nerdy right?

She will be a fangirl of the local legends, and frequently post her squees about them on Bouldr.

man I'm tired of all the monster rights warriors on Bouldr

Also, it's legit cool the script is by someone from that region.

Bouldr blog post about how Disney is racist and doesn't have enough Neanderthal representation. I've had enough of only Cro-Magons in movies.

A composer from Fiji will be doing the music, and Dwayne Johnson might be voicing Maui. Both decisions I can get behind.

That's surprising...I thought that Marc Mancina was supposed to compose the music (also a very good pick, he has a collection of rare instruments and worked with Phil Collins on the score for Tarzan and Brother Bear)....perhaps they go for a collaboration? Mancina is not exactly a song writer.

1. One Piece doesn't take place on Earth.

2. We have no idea if the One Piece is an island.

Can The Rock sing? The Rock will answer that in The Rock's own words.

Please let this be true. The mental image of The Rock singing in a Disney musical gives me feelings of glee and Squee.

I am fine with this.

On the other hand, I don't know enough about the movie yet to judge.

Any news yet whether this will be an outright` "Princess" film? I mean, it's a Disney movie that stars a female in a fantasy setting, so I guess regardless it will probably be counted as one anyway- but I mean definitively.

It's based on mythology, so I guess, it depends on how well it does...if it does well, they will most likely market it as such, if not, they will treat it like Hercules or Atlantis. And it depends on how much the end-product fits in the line-up....if it is very different in tone and/or Style (again, like Hercules or Atlantis), it will be another reason not to market it as Disney Princess movie.

It sounds like it will be one, but they will leave their options open. After all, the first movie which was officially made under the Disney Princess Label was "princess and the Frog".

There's been no indication she's a princess.

There's an open casting call for the part of Moana. They're doing a global (i.e. not just America) search and are looking for a 14-18 year old for the part. Strong singing voice is a 'must'.

So hey, I'm a shoo-in.

Also, Moana has a pot-bellied pig as her animal friend.
