I was probably thinking Mobians to have actually have evolved separately from humans in various different isolated communities, such as South Island and Angel Island, and have been integrated in human societies for some time now (within past 100-300 years). Their exact origin is very much a hot topic in the scientific community, with theories ranging from aliens to magical and scientific experiments gone awry with tons of theories for and against abound, often times contradictory.

It's Storm Spirit, of course. tongue

In his in-game lore, he's described as a magical fusion between a human being and a god known as the Storm Celestial, which gives him various electricity-themed powers (his most iconic spell has him turn into electricity and fly around a la Freakazoid). I figure that I can keep his backstory and powers largely intact, although maybe add on the ability to change into a more normal-looking form for when he's not super-heroing.

Hmm, definitely interested. Am thinking Harry Dresden but because his Walking Tech Bane field has caused him to be rejected from other RP Gs before would cut it out. Grreat thing is that since the series has been going on so long and his power has progressed along with it I can scale him to the GM's wishes, anywhere from moderately powerful (at the beginning) to being a potential contender for the title Sorcerer Supreme (Changes)

Character pick...

Name: The Spider, Master of Men! aka Richard Wentworth the 4th.

Appearance: Richard Wentworth ("Dick" to his friends) is a tall, well built white man with short black hair and piercing eyes. He appears to be in his late thirties/early forties. As the Spider, he wears makeup that adds a hooked nose, fangs, shaggy eyebrows, long lank hair and a hunchback to his appearance. His usual costume as the Spider is a black slouch hat and black cloak over a formal suit of the 1930s. http://www.radioarchives.com/The_Spider_Audiobook_11_Prince_of_the_Red_Loot_p/ra403.htm

Background: Richard Wentworth IV is actually the original Richard Wentworth, having faked his own death several times and returned as his nearly identical son. He began fighting crime in the 1930s, being inspired by a number of incidents, but mostly because he really enjoys killing criminals. Having long outlived all his original allies and enemies, the Spider seeks new companions in the fight against injustice.

Personality: Richard Wentworth IV comes across as an indolent rich playboy with a keen interest in criminology, and a habit of turning scarily competent in a crisis. His true personality is of the Spider, a killer of criminals and protector of the innocent. He's kind of old-fashioned, courteous towards women (but willing to shoot them if necessary), a firm believer in honor and dignity, and has little pity for those who turn to crime.

The Spider seldom teams up with more squeamish heroes, because they tend to try to arrest him for the many, many crooks he's shot, stabbed or done horrific things to over the years. To reduce confusion, he marks the corpses of those he kills personally with the mark of the Spider in red.

Skills, Weapons and Powers: The Spider is a master of disguise, excellent at stealth and not a bad detective. He has decades of experience in crimefighting, and has no problem adapting the latest technology when it is more useful. His iron will allows him to fight with injuries that would leave any ordinary man incapacitated. He habitually carries a pair of large caliber pistols, but has lethal aim with any normal small arm. He also carries "the Spider's Line" (a thin but immensely strong rope with grappling hook) and a disguise kit at all times, and is an escapeologist.

The Spider's one known superpower is that he cannot die. He can certainly be wounded to a point where he seems dead, but the moment you take your eyes off the corpse, it will disappear, and the Spider will show up at a safehouse to heal up. He doesn't heal that much faster than a normal human, so can be sidelined for weeks or even months while his body mends. How, precisely, he cannot die is unknown, and none of the standard super power detection methods has found anything.

Naturally, the character will be rewritten to match the sheet once one is available. I just wanted people to get a feel for what I might be playing.

Wait, if all benders are just genetic lottery winners in this universe, does the Avatar still get to hold a religious/spiritual role among them? Can they go Avatar State or have a connection with the supernatural world or something? Do they reincarnate when they die?

But then again, it would be interesting if all that stuff was just a perpetuated myth by the White Lotus, and the Avatar was really just a metaphorical symbol of peace who took it upon themselves to help the world.

I thought about that, and I had a solution similar to yours: the mythical part is just that, a myth, installed way back when by the White Lotus. Of course, we can always say that the Avatar gene carries the memories of its previous "owners" as it passes from generation to generation- as there is only one per generation- and the Avatar State is simply the Avatar accessing those memories through genetic flimmy-flabble.

I like your genetic memory idea, but now I'm thinking of someone just using special glowy goggles and a voice modulator to fake the Avatar State while crime fighting to keep their identity better. [lol]

I wonder, do you think that some kind of version of Kraehe from Princess Tutu could work as a heroine? Perhaps in this universe she's sort of like Teen Titans' Raven? Obviously evil powers and past but a good person?

@Karrin: I have never seen that, will have to wait for a sheet.

@Bacon: I'd like to hold onto all the bigwigs on the Marvel and DC universes, sorry.

@Scorpio: Sure, we could go with that.

Okay, so, here's a general story of this universe. Superheroes like Captain America worked during the 30's and the 40's to get the population to support the war, everyone knows that. But during the 90s, new heroes started to appear, and some of them are now famous all throughout the world. Batman and most of his rogues gallery exist in this world and are quite well-known. The same can be said for the Flash, although that name is a mantle that has recently been passed from Barry Allen to Wally West.

On the side of the government, we have SHIELD, tasked with keeping an eye on these new superheroes, creating agents ready to respond to paranormal threats and to supercriminals. And when it comes to industries, Wayne Enterprises, Queen Consolidated and Stark Enterprises are three big names in the R&D department, although the latter has let go of all its military contracts after its owner, Tony Stark, returned from a very traumatic experience in the Middle East with new views on what Stark Enterprises should be about.

Let me say what major heroes haven't appeared yet: Superman, Green Latern, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Thor, the Hulk and Iron Man.

This is all to give you guys a broad idea of this world. I'm going to probably open the thread tomorrow or on the day after tomorrow.
