I kinda think everyone's waiting around for Maddy to explain herself since that seems to be so out of line with what the thread was angling toward...

I think the explanation I gave here was a case of Tab Confusion. But cutting a page with over 160 inbounds isn't good for the wiki.

And really, this is the flipside of the Animation Age Ghetto coin: That's "If it's animated, people assume it's for kids." This is "If it's animated and clearly indicated/marketed/labelled to be for adults, not kids, people assume it's vulgar."

[up]And that obviously has nothing to do with the idea that "certain point & click adventure fans won't buy point & click adventures because they don't have funny characters."

"But cutting a page with over 160 inbounds isn't good for the wiki."

Never really understood this argument, that a lot of inbounds somehow makes a bad trope, or something that isn't tropeworthy, somehow OK. Misuse is bad, until it's done a lot, at which point it becomes good?

[up] It's happened before, with the trope I named in my last post. That trope was in the middle of a rename effort when it was hit by a ton of inbounds by being linked in an article on another website. This was interpreted as a sign that the name was healthy and appropriate, and the rename effort was summarily ended.

[up]Yeah, I've seen it before also, and I'll never understand it.

Oh well, a moderator decided to throw out our vote and pretty much waste all the time spent on this thread, so we need to come up with something else. Rename? Redefine?

The reason we don't cut pages that have a lot of inbounds is because that means people are linking to them by that name elsewhere (the inbound count doess not include people that come in through a search engine). We have no way of changing, editing, or correcting that link on that other site that's sending people here. Cutting the page means that link now produces a 404 Page Not Found error. The more of those we generate, the lower search engines place our results in their presentation order, which means we not only don't get the hits from the now-broken link, we also stand to get fewer people coming in from search engines. That's why cutting pages with lots of inbounds is not good for the wiki.

And that's why "cut it" is generally not a good option if the inbounds are over about 25 and it's almost never a good option if there are more than a hundred or so. "Rename and redefine, then redirect the old name to the new one" is better all around.

Bump. Any consensus to do anything here?

If I may make a suggestion, I feel like the best thing to do for this page right now is to separate it into two categories: shows that are mistaken for this trope (such as "God, The Devil and Bob") and shows that play it straight (such as "Brickleberry"). I also feel like this can be an example of Stop Being Stereotypical, as the shows that play this straight tend to poison the shows that avert it, and lumping them all together on this page may exacerbate this stereotype.

Evidently, this isn't going to move. Closing.

Crown Description:

All Adult Animation Is South Park is not thriving with disputed cause.

Arguments abound about the definition, the distinguishability of that definition, what examples there should be and whether what its talking even exists.
