South Park: The Stick of Truth didn't win Most Anticipated Game of 2014?! Aw, man.
Oh well, everybody hates the VG As anyway, so I guess there's no use complaining.
South Park isn't going to win Most Anticipated Game of 2015 either. :P
Reading a list of the awards off of Wikipedia.
Meh, GTA V.
Good job, Naughty Dog.
I wanna see this character award video. And...ooooh, those guys from Brothers were nominated.
-snickers- I thought the shooting was the worse part of Infinite. Ah well.
-grumbles about Black Flag winning-
-laughs at Sports-
Aww. I kinda wanted Parable or Papers Please to win. That ending kinda has some bad Fridge Horror.
-applauds Ni No Kuni-
Meh on Injustice.
-shrugs on Driving-
Ah. Blood Dragon. Eh.
At least Brothers won something.
And Last of Us rightfully won.
I hear 3D World is very good.
...you know my thoughts on Gone Home.
Hmm. Well, A Link Between Worlds is on my wishlist for Christmas.
HECK YEAH TROY BAKER!
...I don't wanna listen to that ginormous soundtrack! WHHHY?
Aw, I like Black Flag. It's the best sequel to Zelda Wind Waker ever.
I have a message from another time...Story is still pretty meh. I'm a story type of gal. -chuckles- Though that sailing does look fun.
At least The Last Of Us and Super Mario 3D World got some recognition. Those are two of my top five games of the year.
Other than that, yeah, pretty lame. I also love how everyone is once again bashing Nintendo for only showing Donkey Kong when really, all the announcements were poor.
That's Geoff's fault. All of Nintendo's tweets about it specifically said "new info on a previously announced Wii U game".
The pre-show stream said "unannounced game".
So, were there any good acceptance speeches? I remember Black Flag making me chuckle, but I only saw like the first half of the second hour.
Video Game Census. Please contribute. How have I not heard anything about this until now?
Anyone else amused that Troy Baker was up against himself for Best Voice Actor?
I don't like caling people "COD players" as an insult. It's just inflammatory.
I have a message from another time...I do approve of not gating content behind specific sequences to artificially lengthen gameplay, even though this can result in really short speed runs by people who already know what to do. OTOH, I think it's a fair criticism to say that the bulk of a game's primary content should not be SOLELY for atmosphere. You need story, or resource gathering, or something else there to prop the atmosphere up, because atmosphere is like salt in a recipe. It's meant to add an edge to something already there, not stand on its own.
Otherwise, all you've got is a walking simulator in a series of set pieces, which is actually kind of meeting COD from the exact opposite direction.
Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.I missed the whole thing. Is it true Joel insulted everyone and Reggie did something interesting?
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult."insulted" would be a bit strong. He was definitely the more comedic of the hosts but I don't think he ever came out and made fun of someone.
nyo ho hoExcept Geoff. Which he deserves.
May I infer that the general atmosphere of this program was kind of the opposite of say the Grammies or Academy Awards?
This tweet from Brian Altano sums up my opinion pretty nicely.
He made a transsexual joke about Wario getting sexual reconstruction surgery, which has been offensive to actual transsexuals.
I have two things to say to that:
One, he was pretty clearly reading off the prompter for most of the night, and sounding like he'd rather be anywhere else. The few times he actually got engaged in something it tended to put the show completely off the rails.
Second, I feel like that's being overly sensitive. Yes, trans people have to deal with a lot of shit coming at them from all sides, but that joke was pretty clearly just over-the-top ridiculous. I have a feeling gay people wouldn't get up-in-arms if the joke had been about Wario coming out of the closet, instead. The most offensive thing about the joke is that it wasn't funny, not its subject matter.
Such a shame that the more professionally behaving Game Developer's Conference doesn't get as much exposure.
I watched Chip Cheezum and Void Burger riff the thing live, honestly, and that seems worth it to me; that show was pretty awful.
For the GTAV music concert (why), Chip covered the entire screen in animated GIFs. It was wonderful.
Moon◊That's because it's a Game Developer's Conference. As in, for the developers, rather than the fans (which, ostensibly, the VGAs are).
Something like PAX would probably be a more appropriate venue.

Oh wait, just read the winners, and I just wanted to rub into your faces that Ni no Kuni actually did win best RPG. To those discarded that option when I pointed out that one of the four entries, Final Fantasy XIV, wouldn't stand a chance because Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Ni no Kuni.
Signatures are for lamers.
People put it forward as the highlight of the show. I was explaining why I disagreed. It's called an opinion. People are allowed to have them.
