Suggestion: Combat Hand Fan

A young trope, apparently (I would have sworn it already existed in another form, but I can be wrong). Anyway, it could use an illustration.

Let's start with Fan Myopa goggle on, and a few pic from my favorite show, which should illustrate well:

1. Dynamic pose with both fans quite visible◊
2. Screencap, with older geisha-style avatar.◊
3. Screencap with ninja-style avatar.◊
4. More dynamic screencap, with fan used as shields.◊
5. Close-up on the fan.◊

I'll pass on anything Code Lyoko based, reasonable or not.

err, wasn't Larkmarn the OP for this? I thought he was gonna make this thread? anyway, not that it matters.

The YKTTW has far more superior suggestions, IMO.

EDIT: to explain, your suggestions don't show that they're weapons.

the character is simply posing with them to those who are unaware of the combat context.

My personal favorite from the YKTTW◊.

While they're posing, the fact they're presenting shields makes it clear that they're ready for combat.

Kitana from Mortal Kombat: 1, 2◊, 3, 4◊

Even in the poses it's much more clear that the fans are weapons than in the other suggestions.

I like #2 the best. She's actually shown to be attacking someone with it, so it doesn't get clearer than that, really

As much as I want to pick 8.1, 8.3 has the advantage.

I don't know. 8.1 seems like it demonstrates more prettier to me than the other two.

(And I'm not being biased towards Superman. ).

Any one of the 8ers work for me. All pics suggested so far can go on Image Links if they lose.

I vote 8.1. We've got motion lines, less unnecessary gore, more useful gore (the bloodspray showing it's doing damage), and, well, the fact it's clearly hurting Superman of all people makes it very clear.

I'd favor 8.3, it's the one where the combat use is the more obvious. the others have two many extraneous elements, which deter illustrating the trope IMHO.

I think 8.1 is the clearest.

i was about to resuggest this◊ (from YKTTW).

but 8.3 trumps it too damn well. you can't get more literally in-your-face than that.

8.1's decent but it's very ripe for dick/pants jokes and Brokeback Escher Girls stuff also, supes seems to be enjoying himself.

11 — i just hope it won't be filled with Kitanas. that would be unfair.

That's decent, but a little cluttered...is there a different shot of that character wielding a fan against someone?

i got it from a Koei forum and the image apparently came from here, none◊ of◊ them◊ are◊ better◊ when it comes to being uncluttered though (well, it's Dynasty Warriors, can't expect duels there).

Except for the first one, none of them works because of hotlink issues.

What's the character? GIS might come up with something, even if it's fan art.

It's Xiao Qiao from Dynasty Warriors. Her sister Da Qiao also uses fans in battles but not much pics on any of them.

i was unaware there were hotlink issues. all you have to do is copy the urls then paste in a new tab.

In the first, I can't tell there's a fan, and the cropping and cluttering make the other two right out for me, although they'd work for an Image Links page.

17: The only one of those that I'd give a for is the last one, and even then the Kitana pics do more with less. All are good for Image Links, though.

Agree that the Kitana pics are the clearest, though I can't really decide which among the three are the best. Needs a crowner, methinks

In the DW pics, only the third one actually focuses on the fan. And SW weapons are better than DW anyway◊.
