Is this it? The truly indefensible reboot?
I'm a skeptical squirrelNo, that would be the upcoming Charmed reboot.
I haven't seen the old show, but Spencer's a fine actress.

Looking for some stories?Well, in that case, I demand my Matlock movie with Morgan Muthafuckin Freeman.
I'm a skeptical squirrelI... think I'd watch that.
Reserving judgment on the topic of this thread, though, despite my instincts screaming "disaster."
Having watched an episode of the original, I have to agree that, regardless of the cast, this is probably a bad idea. I just don't think a modern TV audience would accept Fletcher, and if you change her, you're changing the core of the show.

Looking for some stories? They're making Miss Marple American????
Oh, wait...that was the first time around.
Seriously, though, I loved the first few series of Murder, She Wrote, back when it actually was basically Miss Marple Moves to Maine. It's just so quaint. Perfect TV for a rainy afternoon with tea and a chocolate digestive. With US TV writers being what they are these days, I don't see a reboot being anything but dire.

'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'Of all the reboots they consider...this might actually work. The series has a timeless quality to it, so I actually can imagine a more contemporary version. On the other hand...do we really need another crime show? I am kind of tired of those. I think the BBC has it right by looking further into the past and picking the classics. Currently I would take everything which isn't a crime show or focussing on some clandestine organisation. Give me a show about pirates, about knights, about cowboys, about fairies, about historical persons, about everything but crime. And if it HAD to be crime...why not going for THE American detective which predates all the British ones? They could take a page out of Sherlock's book and do a modern version of Auguste Dupin, taking the three stories he did appear in and basing the other cases on the various short stories of Poe.
As long as they don't come down with a case of Totally Radical and rename it "Murder She Blogged"
or
"Murder She Liked"

"You can reply to this Message!"So when did you come out of the closet and admit to the world that you are, in fact, an auld wummin?
And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)Formula is not necessarily bad. It just means your audience will be, for the most part, men or women who do work in front of the TV, and don't really have the headspace to spare for elaborate arcs or original stories. "I need to be able to jump into any part of this forty-minute program and know what's about to happen."

So...yeah...this is happening. Have to say, I do like the premise, though I'm not sure why they insist on marketing it as a reboot. I think it'd be fine as something on its own, though I guess this new premise does kind of illicit "Murder She Wrote with a black woman" comparisons, so calling it a reboot would save it a lot of flack. I guess I'd have to tune in and check it out....here's hoping for a cameo from Angela Lansbury. Though I wonder how being self-published will change her standing as a writer...not to mention that they want to use the original theme music which is a little quaint and 80's for an update, I think.
