Covenant Academy, situated on a small island off the coast of Japan, is unique in that its students are all Contractors, people who have made pacts with beings from another world. The academy has facilities to teach students from elementary school through to university and takes applicants from all corners of the world. Thanks to one of the staff's contract abilities, all students are able to communicate clearly with one another regardless of whether they know each other's languages.

The academy is more like a city than a school. It features a large shopping district, restaurants, cinemas and almost anything else the students are likely to want or need. Most of the people working in these establishments are current or former students of the academy.

As with most Japanese schools, Covenant Academy has a large number of clubs, ranging from normal things like sporting teams and anime appreciation societies to clubs that couldn't possibly work in more normal schools. Among the academy's many clubs and associations is the Covenant Academy Security Team.

The Security Team is made up of students of all ages who use their abilities to enforce the school's rules, effectively functioning as the island's police force. These students are the only students authorised to use their contractor abilities without a teacher's permission and are able to give permission for other students to use their powers under certain circumstances. Anyone caught using their powers without permission risks a hefty punishment. No one is sure what this punishment is exactly, though most aren't willing to risk finding out.

Members of the security team or academy staff can authorise "duels" between students, either as training or to help settle arguments. The system was established to help with the inevitable fights that would break out in the school. Given that many of the students had dangerous powers, a system where these fights could be carried out with supervision that ensured proper medical care when needed and gave incentive to avoid potentially lethal attacks seemed like a good idea. Combined with the rumours about the severity of the punishments for unauthorised power use, the system has been mostly successful.

So...after the last attempt of this bombed due to a combination of factors, I took another look at the initial notes I had for stuff, fleshed some things out more and just generally tried to polish the idea up a bit.
A few points about how magic works in the setting:
  • People have no special powers, but can gain them by forming contracts with magical beings.
  • There is no limit to the number of these contracts a person can make. However they carry a risk of injury, death or possession, so most people don't make them and those who do tend to stick to one or two.
  • These powers increase in strength with time, use or compatibility between the contractor and the contracted being.
  • Magical beings live in a world seperate to the human world, however, they can be summoned to the human world by a contractor. They are stronger this way than when they’re giving a contractor power, although this takes a lot of energy and is generally a last resort.
  • A magical being can temporarily combine with its contractor, granting a strength boost and sometimes, entirely new abilities. This isn't as draining as summoning.
    • When combined, the contractor's appearance generally changes somewhat. This can be something as simple as a coloured aura or an outfit/suit of armour that bares some resemblance to the contracted being or can involve temporarily gaining traits of the being (ears and a tail from a contract with a bakeneko, wings from a contract with a phoenix, etc).
    • In some cases, the contracted being's personality can take over in this state.
  • Magical beings range from simple monsters from folklore/myth up to gods/titans. All non-creation myths are more or less true.
    • In case it wasn't obvious, folklore and myth, as they're being used in this RP do not refer to things like Area 51, conspiracies about lizardmen running all of the world's governments (although the president of the USA does have a contract with the Hydra, it's great for assassination attempts) or invisible/teleporting battleships. Think more along the lines of things like gods, frost giants and dragons.
  • All contractors are tougher/stronger than normal humans, some more than others due to the nature of their contracted beings. All but the weakest contractors can more or less shrug off small arms fire.
  • Try to keep your characters' abilities fairly close to what the magical beings are capable of in their real world myths/stories. Feel free to nerf/buff them as necessary, maybe take some minor liberties here and there, but don't just come up with entirely new abilities. For example, getting the power to set your fists on fire from a nekomata, dragon or other fire-breathing monster is fine, getting eye lasers from a contract with Poseidon...not so much.
  • Undead creatures (ghosts, banshees, vampires, mummies, etc) exist, however, if it's something you can contract with, it's not something that was once a normal human.
  • While summoned beings can be damaged, "killing" them simply forces them to return to the other world for a while, during which they can't be summoned or used for fusion.
  • If there's something I haven't covered here, feel free to ask.

Rules:
  • No godmodding, ghosting, autohitting, metagaming, etc.
  • If I think you'll cause issues, you will be rejected.
  • If you're going to drop out/have to leave for an extended period, please say something in the discussion thread.
  • The tone of the RP will remain lighthearted, though serious scenes are fine. Just try to avoid getting too dark.
  • Player created plots are encouraged, however they should be discussed with the players they're likely to involve (or a GM if you're worried about spoilers) before anything is done with them.
  • I'm not going to set a limit for power levels (because the Super Weight scale kinda really sucks) or write out a list of banned powers (because I'll almost definitely miss one or two and I don't want to deal with arguments because "that wasn't on the list"), but I will be looking at characters' abilities and rejecting them if I deem them broken or otherwise unacceptable.

And finally, the character skeletons:

Humans:

  • Name: Self-explanatory.
  • Age: Self-explanatory. While teachers are acceptable, I'd prefer if most of the characters were students.
  • Appearance: Pictures and written descriptions are both acceptable.
  • Personality: How does your character act? I don't expect a full essay, but at least a couple of sentences would be appreciated.
  • Clubs: What clubs (if any) is the character a member of?
  • Brief Backstory: Optional. You can elaborate on your character's past in the thread if necessary. Don't take this as permission to leave the field blank and introduce a grimdark past in the RP itself though.
  • Contract(s): What being(s) does your character have contracts with?

Contracted Beings:

  • Name: Optional, as some beings aren't likely to have names and others may be hesitant to give them out.
  • Type: What is the contracted being? A god? Yuki-onna? Demon?
  • Personality: Self-explanatory. Optional in the event of a beast-like being.
  • Powers: What abilities do they grant the contractor without combining/being summoned?
  • Fusion: How do they look when they've combined with the contractor? What powers do they have in this state?
  • Summon: How do they look when they've been summoned in the flesh/whatever they're made of? What powers do they have in this state?

Human:

  • Name: Tomoe Sakura
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: "Oh, hello there, would you like to play a game?"
  • Personality: Sakura is a pleasant, if sometimes teasing, girl with a penchant for games. Games of all sorts, really. She enjoys video games, card games, and board games equally. She tends towards being polite, unless she's decided to tease someone. Teasing is, however, generally a sign that she likes a person. She avoids being too harsh when she teases, and all her kidding around is very good-natured. Actual anger is marked by very direct and sharp, angry comments, or silence. Basically, if she's teasing someone, she's not angry with them in the slightest.
  • Brief Backstory:
  • Contract(s): Artemis

Contracted Being:

  • Name: Artemis
  • Type: Goddess
  • Powers: Sakura gains excellent eyesight, increased endurance and reflexes, and excellent marksmanship.
  • Personality: Artemis is serious-minded and calm... most of the time. She is prone to making biting, sarcastic comments to those she perceives as idiots, and has little to no tolerance for stupidity or fooling around. She takes a great deal of pride in her abilities as an archer and a hunter, and sometimes boasts that she has perfect aim. Which isn't really a boast, as her aim is beyond fantastic. Enough irritation will drive Artemis to yell and insult the source, berating them rather relentlessly. She does show softness towards young girls... provided they don't act stupid, too. She is extremely, absurdly protective of Sakura, holding Sakura's protection as an important duty of hers.
  • Fusion: The fusion between Sakura and Artemis is closest to Sakura. However, Sakura is clad in Artemis' clothing, and her hair has changed to the same shade of purple as Artemis'. In this state, Sakura gains the godly speed and strength of Artemis in full. It also enables her to run. She gains Artemis' skill with a bow and arrow.
  • Summon: "Four targets...?" Artemis is divinely strong. But she is weak by comparison to other gods, instead relying on agility and speed(also to divine levels, though she is not the fastest deity). However, her real abilities lie in what she can do with her bow and arrows. Curving arrows, firing them through walls, rapid-firing them, aim so impossibly near perfect that she nearly always hits her target unless they have abilities to match her own, firing dozens of arrows at once, Artemis is a master of archery. She is also capable of, oddly, turning men into young girls. The latter of these abilities is not something she's going to use pretty much ever.

Alright, I'll join again, because I did kinda want to see this RP in action. This is directly pasted from the last sign up.

Human:

•Name: Paige Anderson

•Age: 17

•Appearance: Pale skinned and dark brown eyes. She is about 5' 6" and lanky, not very built for athletics at all. Her black hair is pulled into a short ponytail, and she wears a pair of glasses.

•Personality: Paige is calm and collected a majority of the time, along with being introverted at times. She talks when she believes there is something of importance or interest to say, usually involving research she does on topics she likes. She is curious about anything she doesn't fully understand, and enjoys analyzing people and objects to fully figure them out, almost to the point of being annoying with her persistance.

•Clubs: History Club, Newspaper Team.

•Brief Backstory: Paige is from Great Britian, but moved to Japan at age 5. This prompted her to become interested in the place she was born, so she started researching on the history of Europe. This is what initially got her into liking history of any kind. At age 12, in an attempt to gain more knowledge about ancient Europe, she made a contract with a creature that lived long ago- a dragon. Paige's parents sent her to Covenant Academy as soon as they could after that. They have stuck together ever since, mostly because the dragon she had a contract with was interested in the present world as much as she was interested in the old one.

•Contract: Drekann

Contracted Being:

•Name: Drekann

•Type: A western dragon.

•Personality: Being a creature from over 1, 000 years ago, Drekann's only real desire is to do or see something amusing. As a result, it takes nothing seriously, and likes messing around and making jokes most of the time. It's very focused about things it has not encountered in its long life before, however. It likes learning things as much a Paige does, and also likes collecting objects of value to try and recreate its lost hoard of treasure. It had a fondness for brainteasers and riddles, and has an amazing memory.

•Powers: Grants stronger hearing, sight, and smell, along with a much better memory than most humans. Paige can photographically memorize images and written information with ease if given the time, along with things that people say to her. She gains an uncanny ability to sense the monetary value of objects like jewelry and artwork.

•Fusion: Paige gains pointed ears, teeth, claws, a short pair of horns, batlike wings, and a tail when she fuses with Drekann. Her pupils also slit, and she becomes cold blooded. In this state, Paige can breathe short bursts of flame or chilling mist from her mouth, but cannot control its effects once she has released it. So if she starts a fire with her breath, she can't direct it afterwards or put it out with her powers or anything. The mist will flash-freeze regular objects, but will just slowly drop the body temperature of people if they get hit with it for too long. Her wings allow her to hover a few feet off the ground and glide, but she can't truly fly. Paige is much more easily distracted by valuable objects she senses, and may decide to take things in an attempt to start a hoard of her own.

•Summon: [1] About the size of the average mini-van. It can launch solid streams of flames and ice breath, and can fly. Its scales are difficult to pierce with conventional weapons like blades, but other contracts could definitely hurt it if they tried.

Behold, my totally original contract monster! >.> <.<

Human:

  • Name: Momo Ibuki
  • Age: 17
  • Appearance: Whee.
  • Personality: Hammy, silly and something of a perv, with a notable love of boyish girls and girlish boys. Refuses to act her age most of the time, but when she does it's usually a bad sign. She has a strong sense of justice, and is quick to jump to the defence of anyone she feels has been wronged, but other than that she's kinda lazy. She's also kind of a nerd, and enjoys cooking, reading and random bouts of philosophy. Unfortunately, she also suffers from an inferiority complex and tends to put everyone else before herself, and has a habit of apologising far too much when she believes she has done something wrong. She often finds herself frustrated and infuriated by her partner Jin, and wishes she could make another contract so at least she had more options than "hit things really hard".
  • Clubs: Cooking Club
  • Brief Backstory: Really, there's not been much of note in Momo's life until just recently, when she finally made her first ever contract. Unfortunately, rather than getting something she could actually work with, she got a loudmouthed, arrogant oni. Since then, Momo has been constantly at blows with Jin, to the point that she is currently looking to make another contract.
  • Contract(s): Jingisukan the Oni

Contracted Beings:

  • Name: Jingisukan (or just "Jin")
  • Type: Oni
  • Personality: Prideful, boastful, somewhat arrogant and above all immensely hotblooded; Jin has no indoor voice. He's also very enthusiastic about fighting, although this is less from him wanting to cause general mayhem and chaos and more from him wanting to prove that he's the best. He has a habit of giving nicknames to everyone he meets, partially to mock them for not being as awesome as he is but mostly because he can never seem to remember their names. Jin happens to be a great lover of coffee, which is unfortunate for his host who absolutely hates the stuff; often the first thing she does whenever he depossesses her is gag on the taste of coffee. Not only that but as an oni he is rather fond of his alcohol; again, something his host is not too keen on. It has no real effect on Jin, but Momo still has a hangover afterwards...
  • Powers: Contracting with Jin has granted Momo great physical strength that just slightly breaks the threshold of superhuman. That's about it, really.
  • Fusion: "I... Have arrived!" And yes, the scarf and the Den-O t-shirt are part of the transformation. Jingisukan grants Momo vast levels of superhuman strength when they are fused, enough to lift cars above her head with no visible strain, or to uproot sizable trees and use them as clubs. In addition, she gains the ability to summon small storm clouds and ride them through the sky.
  • Summon: Totally original, I know! Really, there's not much difference between fused Jin and summoned Jin in terms of abilities, other than the fact that he comes with a sword baring his likeness. He's also even stronger and can also fire lightning from his hands, but unfortunately his strength is so great that he causes far too much collatoral damage, and thus Momo rarely if ever summons him, prefering the more controllable level of strength gained from fusion.

Definitely interested, though I'm curious about something. Could it be possible for a Contracted being to be too powerful for the Contracter, and if so, what the repercussions would be?

tachikaze from Australia Since: Apr, 2009
#8: Oct 22nd 2013 at 7:20:25 PM

Both are accepted!

[up]Hmm...that depends on how you mean. Um, a strong enough contracted being can generally possess their host whenever they want, regardless of the host's will, for example. In terms of having too much raw power for them to handle, it might cause damage to the contractor when they use their fused form and would severely limit the amount of time they can summon their being.

  • Name: Akane Koizumi
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Here.
  • Personality: Akane is shy around people she doesn't know, and though she livens up a bit around friends, she's still fairly quiet. She is a fan of anime and manga, as well as tokusatsu series. She has a strong sense of justice and doesn't like seeing people suffer, which is part of what led to her contracting in the first place.
  • Clubs: The anime appreciation society. And the cheerleading team, because Daniela made her join.
  • Brief Backstory: N/A
  • Contract(s): A vampire and Raijuu.

  • Name: Daniela
  • Type: Vampire
  • Personality: Daniela is...odd. She has a tendency to not take important things, such as fights, seriously, while treating less than important things, like cheerleading, as though they were matters of life and death. She also has a tendency to misinterpret what people are saying, especially when metaphors and other figures of speech are involved. In general, she's fairly pleasant, if something of a ditz. When thirsty, she tends to ask people for permission to drink their blood and...is generally rather confused when the answer is no.
  • Powers: Contracting with Daniela grants Akane a minor healing factor. During the day, this is slow enough that most injuries beyond small cuts are likely to take several hours to fix. At night however, she is able to heal larger wounds faster, though broken bones and other major injuries are still likely to take her out of a fight.
  • Fusion: "2-4-6-8, your neck I will per-for-ate!" Upon fusing with Daniela, Akane's healing factor improves further. During the day, it's as strong as it would be at night unfused, while at night, almost anything short of severing limbs or stabbing her through the brain or heart is likely to be fixed within a minute or two. In addition, her strength and speed are improved. Finally, she is capable of growing a pair of bat-like wings that allow her to fly for short periods of time.
  • Summon: The one at the front. When summoned, Daniela's healing factor reaches truly ridiculous levels. She can heal almost anything short of completely destroying her brain or heart in seconds, though such injuries will "kill" her. Her strength and speed are far beyond human levels and even some contractors will have trouble keeping up with her. In addition, she is capable of turning into a cloud of fog, or giant versions of a wolf or bat. However, due to the lack of a human host, her weakness to sunlight plays a much larger role, draining her physical abilities to the level her appearance would suggest and rendering her extremely sleepy.

  • Name: Raijuu
  • Type: Divine Beast
  • Personality: Raijuu is generally calm and harmless, acting much like an oversized dog. During battles however, it becomes agitated and will attack with little regard for collateral damage. When possessing Akane out of battle, it has a tendency to end up glomping people at random and generally disrespects other people's personal space.
  • Powers: Akane's contract with Raijuu grants her enhanced speed beyond that of most contractors. In addition to this, she can fire weak bolts of electricity from her fingertips.
  • Fusion: In Akane and Raijuu's fused form, Akane's speed and the potency of her lightning attacks are enhanced.
  • Summon: A large wolf, composed of lightning. As one would expect from a wolf, Raijuu tends to attack with its claws or fangs, however it is also capable of temporarily transforming into a sphere of electrical energy to fly at its target. In addition, being made of lightning lends Raijuu a great defence against non-magical attacks, in part because it's rather difficult for most mundane weapons to harm something made of electricity and in part because striking something made of electricity generally doesn't end well for the attacker.

I meant more of the latter, with the being not being powerful enough to just possess them. Like, more like the human was too weak for them, or something along those lines.

  • Name: Tsukiyama Miyoko
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: When your summons are generally shit, you have to make up for it somehow.
  • Personality: Acts aloof at all time. You want expressed emotion? Too bad, you have someone too damn stubborn to let slip that there is in fact a person under the façade of ice. It is, of course, penetrable—you just need to be persistent. Miyoko has a vast weakness for cute things, and will sometimes get... rather sidetracked on the possibility of dressing them up (if said cute things are humanoid). She also likes physical activity.
Oh, and being smug about knowing more than you.
  • Clubs: Kendo. Sort of. She was kind of... asked to stay away after terrifying the opposition a few times. Yes, being good with a sword, in both sport and combat, is a valuable ability. Making normal highschool teams too terrified to compete is not okay.
Also a member of the security team, if only because she's good at analysis.
  • Brief Backstory: OPTIONAL? Omitted!
  • Contract(s): The Loch Ness Monster and Salmon of Wisdom

  • Name: Doesn't have one. It's a fish. It's the Salmon of Wisdom, though.
  • Type: Fish. :|
  • Personality: It... it can be described as the most smug creature you have ever met. It takes being the repository of all human knowledge to its head a little too well, and likes to rub it in your face. Doesn't take anything seriously, declaring it 'predictable', even when it's not. Not the best entity to talk to.
  • Powers: Access to the sum totality of human knowledge, mentally accessible in the form of an infinite library of formless scenery. Surprisingly easy to search, too. Note, however, that it's human knowledge, some things are firmly out of its reach. And it's hard to locate an individual event or person...
  • Fusion: Mermaid, can breathe—and must breathe—underwater. Not... terribly helpful.
  • Summon: It is a salmon. Despite being potentially an immensely knowledgeable magic user, it is a salmon. It's not the most useful summon ever.

  • Name: Nessie, AKA the Loch Ness Monster.
  • Type: Um...
  • Personality: Very, very, very shy. So shy, in fact, that Miyoko isn't sure she's been able to talk to this creature ever since contracting it.
  • Powers: The ability to fade into the background at will, becoming a completely uninteresting person to look at or talk to (good for sneaking around—maybe she should join the journalism club?) and the ability to dodge being in a photo, at worst being an unidentifiable blur.
  • Fusion: Heavily scaled, very strong, cannot stay away from water for too long. Sometimes it's just rough, sandpapery skin, though... either way, Miyoko needs to head to water quickly if she's in this form, an aquatic contract is quite a nuisance.
  • Summon: A sea serpent or some prehistoric marine entity. Consistency is rare.

Humans:

Name: Hikage Kyuushi (Shadow feeder in romaji)

Age: 16

Appearance: Always wears long, tight, black clothing, and have a fascination with black flowers, usually pinned to his chest. Usually a black shirt, slightly too long with a black t shirt under neath, the shirt usually flapping in the wind. Black jeans, and black boots. Has long brown hair in a middle shed, eye length at the front, neck length at the back. He is quite tall and lean, with a slim muscular build. Has green eyes, and slight stubble.

Personality: Is very passive. Always the one to offer advice in a short, direct manner, a solution only he seems to come up with, delivered in a Im not bothered either way Manner. He is never rude, always polite in a quiet, thoughtful way. Always look to be thinking or daydreaming. Always getting caught by surprise. Very curious person. Likes to read. Intelligent. Never gets angry or frustrated. Always calm and collective. Doesnt talk much but isn't shy, always talking when he has made up his mind.

Clubs: Reading club, martial arts club, kendo club.

Brief Backstory: His mother died at birth, always been raised by his father who has been working away a lot ever since he was old enough to take care of himself. Never has any drama in life, had a good but very distant upbringing.

Contract(s): Ghoul

Name: Has never revealed a name, Hikage refers to him as Moyasu for "Fuzzy Hugs", for irony.

Type: Undead human feeder

Personality: Hasn't much of a readable personality. Rather slow. Never talks, just moans when humans are nearby and starts floating toward them until Hikage calls him back.

Powers: Can move from one shadow to any other one in sight large enough to accomodate his waist and shoulder width/girth. And can appear totally invisible while in a shadow.

Fusion: The same, only hair gets longer, turns black, eyes glow a faint green, and a ragged black cape is around Hikage's shoulders. It also grants the ability to heal when in shadows, not exactly High speed regeneration. But on a decapitated limb say, it would stem the bleeding and stop him bleeding out and scab over, or heal up cuts and maybe narrow wounds pretty much completely. The cape can be used to create a portable shadow. All abilities except shadow transporting are affected by size/darkness of shadow.

Summon: Looks basically like a dementor from Harry Potter, if you don't know, a large, floating, deceased looking, faceless(Except a hole for a mouth) scabby, long armed, with a massive black ragged cloak. Its ability alone is to sap the energy of anyone it touches, more contact the faster the drain. A hand clutching their arm could make them pass out within 3 minutes of uninterrupted contact, but can also use this ability if they are standing in a shadow. Only process is longer.

I feel like I may have pushed it a bit so any objection I shall change them as required.

[up][up]Hm...bit unsure about Nessie's summon, but I guess it's not that big of a thing. Accepted.

[up]I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with you, ehe. If you want a contract that comes with shadow-related powers, a ghost (more specifically a shade/death-shadow) might be a better fit.

  • Name: Isamu Hiroko
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: "I-I won't back down..!
  • Personality: Isamu is, to be blunt, weak. Physically, of course. He pretty much fails at any form of manual labor, gets knocked-out in a fight on the first or second punch, and generally can't lift half his own weight (which, incidentally, is 120 lbs). However, he still tries his best when violence occurs, bravely facing any threat even if it would plow right through him. He's quick to trust just about anyone, making him both very loyal and very, very gullible. He's also somewhat of a perfectionist, usually blaming himself if his expectations aren't met.
  • Clubs: The Book Club (more of an Appreciation thing instead of the regular kind).
  • Contract(s): Corcelus

  • Name: Corcelus
  • Type: Demon
  • Personality: Corcelus is not like one of those brute demons, the ones who just kill, maim, harm, etc without thought. He's methodical, observant, and so-forth. Brains instead of brawn, things like that. As such, he doesn't do well with interaction or small talk, getting straight to the point most of the time he's talked to. He likes being blunt as well, which can be both good and bad, depending on the context.
  • Powers: Defense-based powers; being able to generate force-fields and shields of moderate strength, being able to hold up to a fair amount of fight before breaking. Also gives Isamu enhanced knowledge capabilities, speed, and stamina.
  • Fusion: [[http://safebooru.org//images/390/5ba8c3d15196bb3fa31b83b6834e953fd1cf51e9.jpg?389987 Couldn't think of a quote to put here. When Fused (a bit of a rarity, since Isamu is a bit too weak to pull it off for long, and it'll sap most of his energy), he has the same powers as before, only better; his shields can withstand more of a beating, and are less likely to break. He also is able to use said barriers as a weapon of sorts, like a kind of Frisbee thing. His voice and attitudes is the same as his human form; only the appearance changes.
  • Summon: Also lacking a quote or whatever. Rarer than the fusion, since it'd more or less kill Isamu if he summons Corcelus for too long. Again, it's more of an enhancement on the existing powers; barriers and shields hardly ever break or sustain damage, and the attacks are even more powerful. Corcelus can also use an ability close to telekinesis, which allows him to toss poeople and things around as effectively as a pebble.

Hope that's alright.

Looks good. Although I'm a bit unsure about the telekinesis bit. My problem is basically...is he able to fling someone around with it consistently enough that there's no chance for them to recover or fight back? I don't have a problem with the power in general, so long as it's not essentially an automatic win if he gets someone with it.

I'd say it'd depend on what the object in question is. Something small and inanimate? Easily moveable and can basically swing around forever. Mortal? Good for a few minutes before they get flung away once or twice. Contractors? Bit too strong for anything too powerful, but can likely be thrown back a foot or two.

[up][up]Hmm, as long as there's a chance for characters to resist it, that should be fine.

[up]Basically, yep.

RainehDaze Figure of Hourai from Scotland (Ten years in the joint) Relationship Status: Serial head-patter
Figure of Hourai
#19: Oct 23rd 2013 at 9:04:34 PM

  • Name: Akira Shiki (Family, Given)
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: Male? Female? It is a secret (and people don't get to see their ID very often at all). Female.
  • Personality: Lazy and somewhat disinclined to put the effort into things, relying on talent or what they already know to see them through things. This works out pretty damn well for the physical side of life. The number of tests they've had to retake, though, is ridiculous as a result. And this is despite proving that they could easily at least pass the first time if they bothered.
Flirting with people seems to be their greatest pleasure in life, followed by eating. Lots. A distant third is strenuous exercise, which moves up if paired with the other two.
  • Clubs: Formerly a member of the Track Club, but was kicked out for failing to show up often enough. Has been haunting the Cooking Club because food.
  • Brief Backstory: Detail would give away the secret, but: their family exclusively contracts with Angels of Healing, starting very young—yes, the Angel could take over at any time, at that point, but there's a reason they pick healers (i.e., benefits aside, they're generally nice people).
  • Contract(s): Sariel.

  • Name: Sariel
  • Type: Archangel, Healing, Protection... and Death.
  • Personality: Unsurprisingly altruistic, but old and wise enough to know that not everyone can be helped and that their intervention is unnecessary in all but the most extreme of circumstances—the sort of thing where large amounts of blood are extremely likely. Sariel's personality, then, resembles Shiki's rather well: just relax, and help out if it's really needed. Doesn't really approve of their contractor's hobbies, but so long as they don't refuse to act when required...
  • Powers: Perfect Health. Ever since the contract was made thirteen years ago, Shiki hasn't gotten ill, hasn't had to worry about the negative impacts of their diet or a lack of exercise—the least function of being joined with a potent healing force is to keep their body in the peak of human condition. Since this has been going on for most of their life and much of their growth, the effects are very noticeable (making up for the lack of overt abilities). It even deals with sleep deprivation.
As a side note, an angel's lack of a fixed sex has affected Shiki's adult appearance, for the same reason that their father often got mistaken for their mother.
  • Fusion: The left! Healing Hands, flight, and the ability to create protective barriers of various sizes, though smaller = tougher. The barriers aren't fixed in place, allowing them to be used for... say... punching people in the face, or hemming them into a corner. Of course, the fragility of larger barriers hampers this somewhat.
  • Summon: No, they are not offering to dance. Not actually the angel's true form, but 'blinding light shielded by wings' is rather awkward to look at, wouldn't you say? No, this is much better. As for actual abilities: the healing is vastly strengthened; no matter how close to death you are, Sariel can stop it—or, if it was very recent, reverse death (Angel of Death and all). Their barriers are also considerably stronger, and they can keep up more than one at a time. Finally, attacks that don't penetrate the barrier? The energy in them gets absorbed (in fact, this absorption is the reason they're stronger—piercing the absorption reveals the actual defences are no stronger than before), and can be fired as a laser of varying size. Generally non-lethal.

First off, let me apologize in advance for any errors. Mobile virtual keyboards are some of the worst things.

Right then!

Contractor:

  • Name: Cain Havoc
  • Age: 17
  • Appearance: He has piercing eyes of no particular color - no one, when asked, can ever agree on just what color they are. Middling height, at first glance Cain isn't much to look at. However, he has a certain ruggedness to his face that, if it isn't quite enough to be called "handsome", is pretty damn close. His hair varies wildly from day to day, and during stressful times even hour to hour, just one of many fun side-effects from his contract. He has a penchant for longcoats and nice hats.
  • Personality: Due to some of the... peculiar circumstances of his contract, Caine's personality is heavily influenced by his contracted being. He loves humor, with a particular appreciation of pranks and terrible, terrible puns. Very cunning - not smart, not intelligent, but cunning. He always has some scheme going, and often gets into trouble. However, like his contracted being, he always manages to find a way out.
  • Clubs: President and founder of the Campus Brightening Club, more commonly known by it's nickname, the Trickster Club, as well as being a member of the Security Club, though put on probation so often it's astonishing.
  • Backstory: One notable event in his past is worth mentioning - the forming of his contract. At a frighteningly young age, in an incident which he has no memory of and went unwitnessed, he formed his contract. He was an orphan, and, at the urging of his contracted being, ran away from his then current foster home. He was soon apprehended, mostly due to the fact that he had great difficulty, initially, with using the contract properly. Since then he has been raised on various different military bases, shunted all around the world to prevent him from making any connections. Thusly, his contracted partner basically raised him, which explains a lot. Originally fine with being shunted around, he eventually put his foot down in seventh grade. As he had behaved himself up to that point, plus with some nudging from his powers, it was decided that he be sent to this school, where he has lived and studied since. He is expressly forbidden from leaving the school-city.
  • Contract: Coyote
  • Trivia: Never underestimate the lengths he will go to just to make a horrifically bad pun.

Contract:

  • Name: Coyote
  • Type: God/spirit/culture hero, but more importantly, Trickster
  • Personality: Mercurial at best, Coyote is a true Trickster's trickster. Cunning, crafty, quick thinking and quick to pounce on any perceived opportunity, Coyote can barely be trusted, if at all.
  • Powers: Cain is unnaturally persuasive, as all trickster's are, as well as being a consumate liar. He's also very hard to hit directly, almost always being in the one spot no one expects him to be, when fighting. That isn't to say he's unassailable. It's just that, to hurt the trickster, you have to think like a trickster. Otherwise, he has no extra powers beyond the standard boosted strength/constitution of any contractor. He also apparently is given the ability to reincarnate in case of his (unnatural) death, on the next sunrise after his dying. This may or may not be true, as it has never been tested. The only reason it's a possibility is that Coyote told Cain that this was the case, and it may just be another case of him screwing with Cain. In any case, Cain ignores it, and acts as if he didn't have the power, just in case Coyote was indeed lying to him.
  • Fusion: Cain grows coyote ears, and occasionally even a slight snout with whiskers. He also becomes slightly less... real looking, resembling more of an abstract shape then a physical being. His teeth become more canine, and his eyes as well. Due to the sheer power of Coyote, it's a struggle for Cain to maintain control when in this form, and Coyote delights in abusing his ability to possess Cain at will in order to screw with him. In this form for starters, his normal powers become exaggerated. On top of that, he gains extremely minor reality warping abilities, able to change things in his general vicinity by describing what is changed out loud, which he calls "lying to reality". However, just like Coyote himself, these powers are tricksy at best, often being just off from what Cain wanted, but usually in a significant way, or even failing outright.
  • Summon: As for Coyote's appearance, I would say just take Tom's interpretation of him in Gunnerkrigg Court. When things reach this level, it really starts to get hectic. Coyote can and will disobey orders at will, depending on any number of arbitrary reasons. In any case, Coyote takes all of the previous powers even farther - the extent and range of the reality warping effect is increased, and Coyote's ability to lie is, well, godly. He is a powerful and capricious god, and shouldn't be underestimated. However, these powers are, again, restrained by the fact that, in his mercurial Trickster-ness, he is liable to ignore Cain completely, and even in rare cases, turn on him.

[up][up]Hmm...looks alright to me. Accepted.

[up]I don't think someone who is prone to being taken over by a trickster who is willing to screw even his contractor over depending on his mood would fit in too well with the security team.

Also, more importantly, I'm afraid I can't accept that power set. I'm honestly not sure there's anything that could be done to balance straight-up reality warping to a point where I'd accept it. In addition, being "unnaturally persuasive" is worrying too, since powers that can force characters to do things they normally wouldn't are something I won't allow in an RP.

[up] Alright. I have other ideas floating around. I think I'll just straight up use a different one, instead of trying to salvage that one. No worries!

(also, the logic behind him being on the security team was that it was better to keep him close, where they could keep an eye on him. :P)

Second attempt!

Contractor

  • Name: Wayland "Hammer" Smith
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Fiery red hair that sticks out at all angles, burning purple eyes, and a sharp, angular face. Very solidly built, due to the blacksmithing and such. Usually wearing a heavy smith's apron. Hates shoes.
  • Personality: Quiet and unassuming, he tends to fade into the background. Somewhat asocial, he prefers doing work and making things to interacting with people. He is slow to anger, but once provoked, he will destroy obstacles in his path with the brutal thoroughness of a man who takes pride in a job well done.
  • Clubs: Artifact Club, Security Team (Chief Weaponsmith)
  • Contracts: Hephaestus

Partners

  • Name: Hephaestus
  • Type: God
  • Personality: Gruff and often grumpy, he prefers working to talking, much like Hammer.
  • Powers: Hammer has iron skin (not actually made of iron), given very tough constitution. He also has abnormal physical strength. Most importantly, however, is that he is a master craftsman, able to create artifacts of great complexity and magical power.
  • Fusion: Hammer's hair grows longer and is made of lava. He is surrounded by a shimmering, fiery aura, and he develops a limp. He gains volcano powers, able to split the ground and call up lava. He also gains pyrokinesis and ferrokinesis.
  • Summon: Hammer almost never summons Hephaestus, as it takes insane amounts of energy. When summoned, Hephaestus looks like a giant of a man, with grizzled, ugly face, a limp, and curly soot-black hair. His eyes, however, are roaring with flames. He is able to summon up any construction or artifact from his will alone, and use it. He create small volcanoes, as well as manipulate and create from will metal and fire. He is a god.

.

Okay, I think this time around I'm good, right? Also, yes, I'd love to be able to jump in and get started.

For point of reference and also because I've been too busy with personal stuff to notice this was here, this is/was my signup for this RP, as earlier mentioned

Name: Roland Wright

Age: 16 most of the time

Appearance: Most of the time Roland has messy black hair that tangles up and falls over at least one of if not both of his brown eyes. Roland is usually around 5'4" in height and ridiculously pale due to his powers making it more than a little difficult for him to get a tan.

Personality: Roland is a huge fan of anime and video-games of multiple genres ever since he was little. This has an unusual effect on his worldview, as these days he sees himself as the protagonist of his own story, causing him to try and act like a hot-blooded and "cool" hero.

Even though he's somewhat delusional Roland really does work hard to protect Covenant Academy and its residents and sees each and every one of the people he knows as characters with an important role to play, striving for a "Best Ending" where people can live in happiness and peace.

Brief Backstory: Roland contracted with a Phoenix at a young age thinking that it would help him become a hero! Instead his contract mainly got him into trouble when his attempts to "defend the weak" from bullies got local parents up in arms against him and slapped him with a label as a budding juvenile delinquent. Hoping that being around other people like him would help keep him out of trouble, Roland's parents shipped him off to Covenant Academy, where he's been ever since the start of middle school. Luckily he's been able to properly try and defend others since, earning him a place on the Covenant Academy Security Team

Contract(s): A Phoenix

Contracted Beings: Name: (Optional)

Type: A western-style Phoenix

Powers: The primary power Roland gained from contracting with the Phoenix was the ability to magically generate and manipulate flames and their heat. This also comes with a secondary power of being almost totally immune to damage from heat and flame, or at least to the extent of not burning himself via proximity. The actual secondary power granted to Roland by the Phoenix contract is Rejuvination, in that he can heal himself of just about anything up to mortal injuries, but doing so reverts him to an 8-year-old form temporarily. While in this state his flame powers are greatly diminished and he is unable to heal again until he re-ages.

Personality: n/a

Fusion: Roland's hair becomes a fiery red, yellow and orange color reminiscent of flames, with spike-filled styling to match. His eyes also become reddish colored and he gains the ability to generate flaming wings from his back that let him fly at high speeds. His flames also become much more powerful. However while in this state he loses access to his healing abilities.

Summon: like a big bird of prey. Made of fire. The Phoenix is about the size of a Philippine or Harpy Eagle and can generally hurtle around like a feather-y fireball with talons attached. It can also heal others or itself of major injuries at which point it becomes something a lot closer to this and vanishes soon after.

Also um, just from my perspective I'm not sure why you'd need or want a phoenix contract since you could already take fire or heat based stuff from Haphaestus and there's probably other, less redundant ways to get regeneration.
