Got it. This should be interesting.
Who watches the watchmen?i meant a long hallway with a relatively low ceiling and not so tight that a railgun wouldnt fit, but tight enough that it forces individual soldiers to be close together.
Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!Yeah doesn't change anything.
Who watches the watchmen? If I encountered a group like that, I would want to counter with a grenade toss and quick dive into a side-room, not another rail-gun.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."In a narrow hallway type scenario, a rifle, smg, shotgun, and even pistols would likely do the job just as easily. The targets movement is limited and they are effectively channeled into a terrain dictated kill zone. This works best for attackers fighting just out of door ways or around corners firing into the hall.

Who watches the watchmen? Some shields and cqc weapons would work perfectly as well. Protect against bullets while marching forward. Movement is limited anyway so it helps.
You have to stand your ground to use a weapon. Toss and dive aside gets you out of the field of fire.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."So most things are better than a railgun.
Now if you were in a corridor meant for vehicles... a railgun would be fine.
De Marquis: That is assuming you have somewhere to dive to. There is also the issue of the hall way channeling the blast back at the person who threw the explosive. Most grenades in urban combat are suited to use in areas where you can attack from a position of cover regardless of grenade type being used.
Ballistic shields have some use in Urban combat but the ones truly able to stop rifle fire and provide the best coverage are not exactly bearing high marks in the portability department. They are large, cumbersome, heavy, and many actually roll around on wheels on the bottom of the shield. They also typically take up a free hand. There are smaller and lighter shields but many trade off levels of protection and area of coverage for portability.

Who watches the watchmen?Well, you don't assume that you have cover nearby, you don't throw it unless you do. Plus you try to ensure it by moving rapidly from cover to cover. You have to do that anyway, in case the other guy has a grenade.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."You are not going to be diving around. The grenades are used when you already have cover as in you are in cover especially when you are in that situation. Even then you are not going to be leaping out into a hall to throw the grenade you throw it from cover minimizing your exposure. If you are having to dive around you are very likely doing something wrong and will be dead in short order.

Who watches the watchmen?Fine, fine, no need to get nit picky, the point was it beats a railgun (or any direct fire weapon) used alone.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."But TH, of you don't leap out into the hallway, you miss out on the +10 bonus to all attacks that the combat dive gives you.
lol. Don't forget you have to use the battle cry with it just before you attack.
Who watches the watchmen?BY THE MOONS OF GRABTHOR!
how about we deep fry the enemy?
and by deep fry, i mean trap in an area we fill with a flammable gas, so that when they open fire, they blow themselves up instead.
well than it wouldnt be deep frying them now would it, come to think of it, mine wasn't deep frying either, but it involved surrounding something in a fluid substance.

Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!Nah too easy to counter... too expensive if you want the stuff that burns hotter. You'd be better off just making a Microwave room.
Well more or less what you just described is Fuel Air Weapons or Thermobaric weapons. They scatter a fuel or particulate explosive into the air with a weak dispersing charge and then a second charge sets off the dispersed substance creating an intense hot explosive blast.
A good general description
good job showing your work, you get an A, and also, has anyone elso on this thread mentioned the idea of using mantis shrimp or pistol shrimp based weaponry, such as underwater mechs with them?
Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!As in we find a bunker and flood it with boiling oil through the air vents until everything inside is nice and crispy? How medieval.
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."so, a futuristic murder hole?
Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!That is not the Starfleet I want.
Though aquatic mantis shrimp mech has me interested... why did Zeon never make those?
I can't answer that, nor can i claim responsibility for the idea, but not many mechs in fiction go underwater, so not everyone thinks about the possibilities.
Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!Funnily enough I think underwater wouldn't be too awful for a mech to exist. Square cube law is pretty much non-existent down there, since Whales Survive and they still got gravity pulling on them.
^ It is called I got busy and forgot. Also I am presently on paid vacation until Tuesday. I'll write up about it then.
Be prepared for a Wall of Text.
