Ah, I just realized an important question that really should be asked:

Why do Gears need Puppeteers? There doesn't appear to be anything restricting them from acting separate from their Puppeteers or such.

  • GEAR PROFILE
  • Name: Pinocchio
  • Personality: Pinocchio is an older generation Gear, built back when Gears were the exclusive domain of eccentric tinkerers and barmy inventors. While considered “modern” for his times, Pinocchio haven’t exactly aged well, suffering from various glitches, the most severe of which made him a pathological liar.
  • Appearance: Looking a bit evil there, mate
  • Gender: Male
  • Puppeteer: N/A
  • Magic Affinity: Viral
  • Stats
    • STR: E
    • END: E
    • AGI: S
    • C. QLT: A
    • C. QNT: B
    • CON: A
  • Brave Arm:
    • Name: Degeneration
    • Title: Swords to Ploughshares
  • Rank: B
    • Effect: Upon invocation, Pinocchio exhale what seems like a copious amount of sawdust. In actuality, however, they are a highly sophisticated nanomachines that can operate in two modes- disperse, that they may covers a large area, or concentrate on a single target, homing in after them. Dependent on the target(s)’ AGI, the “dust” causes a Rank-down to C. QLT and QNT for the battle, for every 2 Ranks that the target’s AGI is below Pinocchio. This effect stacks. Incidentally, the nanomachines can self-destruct, through each “cluster” at a time explodes with a force no more than a firecracker.
  • Brave Overloader:
    • Name: Dereliction
    • Title: Lives by the Sword…
    • Rank: S
    • Effect: Should the target be hit by Degeneration enough that their C. QLT and QNT are both at D-rank or lower, Pinocchio can activates the nanomachines’ secondary programming, which is to replicate magic circuits. In effects, this causes the target’s magic circuit to appear as if they are restored to their original rank, plus one Rank-up. Should they actually utilize the “restored” circuits, however, their attempts will yields explosive results. The target suffers internal damage as if attacked by an equal rank Brave that they tried to use.
  • Brave Finish: Destruction
    • Name: Sword of Damocles
    • Effect: Pinocchio’s magic core shines with brilliant radiance, and creates nanomachines at an impossible rate. Within 20 seconds, an area the size of a small house is completely enveloped in the dust-like nanomachines, and those that need to breathe could end up choking. In effects, it is not unlike a dust bomb that devours transient magic.

  • Name: Traxxar Gaius
  • Gear(s): Gairuda
  • Race: Nomial
  • Age: 20
  • Gender: M
  • Appearance: Traxxar is a very large man-wolf; really more like a wolf standing up than a man. He's about 6'7", with broad shoulders and thick treetrunk arms—as F. Scott Fitzgerald would have put it, a cruel body. He has an angry, observant expression on his face all the time, like he's about to mug you. Also, he probably is about to mug you. He wears basic light leather armor, the inside of which is embroidered with the seal of his tribe, a deer skull over two crossed spears.
  • Personality: Traxxar has been screwed before. While he's not particularly learned or intelligent, Traxxar is cunning. He can generally sniff out a lie, or someone who thinks that they think Traxxar's just more dumb muscle. He takes offense to people who think they're better than him. He's extremely selfish, and if he thinks there's something to exploit he'll take it. Traxxar's also naturally inclined towards violence, but he won't attack someone who could actually maybe cause real problems; look out for number one and all that. He is, in a word, a bully. He hates all Alfr, the race that sort of caused everything bad to happen to the Nomials ever, and will take literally any opportunity to do horrible things to them. That one dumbass Alfr made a mistake of breathing the same air as him. Now the Traxxar has a pair of new gloves.
  • Abilities/Magic: Traxxar's magic is crude and inefficient, but supplemented by his own great physical fitness. His primary magic allows him to create vibrations from a roar, which can be used both to offensively disrupt and distract someone with tooth-shaking vibrations, or "ping" a Gear to find weak joints or internal mechanisms, much like a sonar. He can also get into melee range with greater skill than many Puppeteers, chasing down the enemy Puppeteer and taking them out while his Gear holds them off.
  • Bio: Do you even know who you're talking to? Traxxar's frickin' royalty. Well, fallen royalty, but still. Dear old Dad was a great fighter back at the Tribe outside Arernand, and took over the Nomial tribe before Traxxar was even born. Those were damn fine years; the tribe was fed well, the other tribes respected this tribe—it didn't have a name, because that was impractical—and life was good. However, like many of these stories go, Traxxar got screwed. As his final test of manhood, he was—with a great deal of excitement and gratitude—assigned a more difficult test of manhood than most young Nomial. He was to go to Arernand with fifteen gold and his Gear and bring back proof that he had taken over some kind of organization there, not unlike Dad... unfortunately, about a day after he arrived in Arernand he received a letter informing him that their tribe had been captured and enslaved down to the last individual—sent by what was left of said tribe who found Dad's journal and tracked down Traxxar's location—and that now Traxxar was on his own, in unfamiliar territory, and he was down to... five gold. Traxxar wandered the streets for awhile then, completely at a loss for what to do. He had his Gear, and he could just make a comfortable living by assaulting people and taking their cash, but this Black Sabbath thing also sounded interesting. He joined up with forged papers and a threat, and slipped his way into a competition, bent on using that power from the Sabbath to put his tribe back together, with himself at the helm!

  • Gear

  • Name: Blue Rose
  • Personality: Blue Rose is a calm and collected individual. Meticulous and with a liking for order and propriety, Blue Rose follows a code of respect programmed into her that dictates humility to Puppeteers and politeness to her equals and inferiors, a distinction that splits neatly along the line between fellow Gears and civilians. Obedience is reserved for her Puppeteer alone; civilian authorities, even police or Academy staff, are met with a pleasant smile, a respectful bow, and blithe noncompliance unless she’s ordered to cooperate by her master. While she was not made entirely for battle, and she does possess the necessary awareness to understand that there is a world beyond the arena walls, Blue Rose does not always understand the purpose or point of things that are, to her, frivolous, and tends to rely on her general social protocols when faced with a situation that she doesn’t comprehend. She enjoys conversing with other Gears that have the self-awareness and ability to speak, as her fellow weapons are some of the few individuals she can speak freely with.
  • Appearance: Here. Standing around 6’8”, Blue Rose towers over most civilians and many other Gears. Her armor is black iron chased with bronze in intricate patterns; the leaves fold over one another tightly, but still allow a full range of motion. The suit is not designed to be removed, so the only seams between the pieces of the suit are to allow for easy motion. Her face is covered with a bronze iron mask, with swooping eye slits and a small smile beaten into the metal giving her a calm, knowing air. Beneath the mask, the only removable part of her armor, her skin is pale and her eyes are dark and piercing blue. Blonde hair in a braided ponytail reaches to between her shoulderblades.
  • Gender: Female
  • Puppeteer: Unassigned
  • Magic Affinity: Creation
  • Stats
    • STR: B
    • END: C
    • AGI: A
    • C.QLT: B
    • C.QNT: B
    • CON: C
  • Brave Arm
    • Name: Rosenstrasse
    • Title: Path of Roses
    • Rank: B
    • Effect: Blue Rose manifests blades from her hands in several configurations, from straight throwing knives to rounded chakram to curved daggers. These blades are deadly sharp and almost unbreakable weapons seemingly made from the same bronzed metal as her mask, and she can throw them with devastating accuracy to strike at her enemies from very far away or use them at close range to make quick series of cuts on her opponents. In fast-paced battles she is more likely to throw even her melee blades at her opponent after a short time, switching to a new style of weapon to confuse them. The blades created by Rosenstrasse are temporary and will fade from existence after leaving Blue Rose’s hands for more than twenty seconds.
  • Brave Overloader
    • Name: Klingetanz
    • Title: Blades on the Wind
    • Rank: A
    • Effect: Pumping more magic through her circuits allows Blue Rose to create blades from almost anywhere on her body, and empowers her to fire them at her opponents rather than throwing them. This form allows her to rapidly create and shoot blades of many types, and is very useful for medium- to short-range fighting and grappling. At the expense of growing multiple blades from multiple locations, she can also create larger and more complicated weapons, such as polearms and chain-sickles chained to her wrists. These blades last much longer than the ones created by Rosenstrasse and can be picked up and dropped with impunity; in addition, by expending more magic, Blue Rose can direct the blades in midair. This mode can only be used for a limited amount of time, and is shut down automatically after a certain amount of magic has been used.
  • Brave Finish
    • Name: Blaurosenlied
    • Effect: When fatally injured, Blue Rose strikes herself in the chest with a blade, carving open her chestplate and baring her Magic Core. Tearing it free, she pins it to her opponent with a hooked blade, driving it deep, and as her body falls apart it shreds into hundreds upon hundreds of razor-edged short blades. The blades rise into the air, surround her pinned Magic Core (and her target), and then collapse inward, impaling anything within the sphere of metal and obliterating her Magic Core.

    • Rank: S (from A)
    • Effect: A complex amalgamation of magic and technology that serves as Chroma's Magic Core, capable of creating small localized time dilation fields. It is by utilizing this that she is able to achieve S rank agility, and it also allows her to reduce another object's speed by a third or double its speed if she makes hand contact with it. This effect lingers after for however long she's made contact with it active.
  • Brave Overloader:

    • Effect: After concentrating for a brief moment, Chroma and whatever she chooses that is in immediate contact with her is able to jump ahead .5-10 seconds (from 1-5 seconds) into the future, effectively ceasing to exist for that amount of time and avoiding anything that would be sent her way. When she returns, she can teleport however far from her original location as she would be able to cover on foot in that time frame, displacing objects in that vicinity. Despite its brief usage, it requires a substantial amount of mana to utilize.

PARTY PARTY PARTY I WANNA HAVE A PARTY

  • Name: Cyneheard Heartlock
  • Age: 16
  • Race: Human
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: "Hey, where are you going?" (Looks like this normally)
  • Personality: Cyneheard is a very brave and outgoing individual, one who seems steeped in intrigue and charisma. Or at least, he seems. Truthfully this is an act meant to fool himself as much as everyone else, and disguise the pressure he's under, as well as some deep-rooted personal issues. He's a legitimately likable and capable young man, however he apparently doesn't see himself this way, or else he wouldn't have to resort to such a false persona. Even if he is a liar and a schemer (or tries to be), he's irrevocably kind at heart, and will always try to reach out to those in pain.
  • Abilities/Magic: Cyneheard has abysmal magical talent, relying mostly on the quality of his Gear to supplement his own lacking ability. However to compensate, Cyneheard has great talent as a soldier and a strategist. Unlike magic, he took to basic training like a fly to sugar water, and quickly learned his best chance as a puppeteer was to hone his fundamentals. As a result, he's a highly skilled marksman, as well as an expert in demolitions and subterfuge. His tactics tend to be reliably sneaky, and he'll use any opportunity available to him to get in a free hit.
  • Bio: Geist's puppeteer since a young age. The rest will come later, because I've put off making this profile for days and I at least want to post what I have done before I go to sleep and inevitably forget about it again.

EDIT: Uhhh, Taco? I'm not sure if Ragna just didn't see this when you submitted Traxxas or forgot to tell you, but Geist was kind of already spoken for a while before this.

Also, Starbound. In response to your question, having a puppeteer is like being plugged into an outlet. It provides a continuous source of magical energy that powers the Gear as well as its magic. It doesn't matter the level of magical talent the puppeteer possesses, because every living thing has access to the same limitless pool of energy (the only difference is how much of it they can draw out at a time, but this is irrelevant to Gears). What determines a puppeteer's magical talent is how well they can harness and handle that magical energy (aside from just giving it to the Gear, of course).

@Pinocchio: Yeah, going to have to reject this one. If this is an early model that has access to things like NANOMACHINES then most Gear should have something similar.

Is the rejection on the grounds of "older model" or "nanomachines"? If it is on the older model part, it's easy enough to change his background to "prototype" instead.

[up]If you want a phoenix, I have one tongue

  • Name: Gairuda
  • Personality: Gairuda is a gentle beast, despite what many would think of a phoenix, who only wishes to serve. He is unable to communicate with non-avians without the assistance of magic. Gairuda has a distaste for mechanical Gears and seems to have a furor when fighting them.
  • Appearance: Gairuda is a huge, flaming bird, about 7’ in height from feet to the top of his head. As he was created from an enchanted bluejay, he has a slightly different bodyform to what most expect from a phoenix and his down still has a blue tint.
  • Gender: M
  • Puppeteer: Traxxar
  • Magic Affinity: Sacred Fire
  • Stats:
    • STR: D
    • END: B
    • AGI: B
    • C. QLT: S
    • C. QNT: E
    • CON: C
  • Brave Arm:
    • Name: Talons, Beak and Fire
    • Title: Aerial Assault
    • Rank: C (B for magical flame)*
    • Effect: Gairuda’s weaponry are his in-built talons (made bigger by magic of course), his beak and the flames that envelop his body, which he can fire at dudes.
  • Brave Overloader:
    • Name: Blessed Phoenix
    • Title: Cycle of Life and Rebirth
    • Rank: S*
    • Effect: Should Gairuda ever be killed, he will burn to ash as a phoenix does. After half a minute has passed, he will be reborn from the ashes as he was before. This cannot protect Gairuda from destruction of his Magic Core.
  • Brave Finish:
    • Name: Blessing of Ra
    • Title: Ashes to Ashes
    • Effect: Ascending into the skies, Gairuda draws power from the sun itself into his form. It kicks Gairuda’s natural flames into overdrive and Gairuda is no longer technically a physical entity, instead becoming a micro-solar object. During this time, Gairuda gains two ranks to his Circuit Quantity and Agility and one to his Endurance, however, his Connection and Strength drop to F instantly. Of course, even being close to a micro-solar object is going to be pretty bloody warm, which could cause problems. Within 60 seconds, this will entirely burn Gairuda’s body and Magic Core to ash, and from this ash will be born a bluejay chick.

My idea thus far. Any issues, do say.

If this guy gets accepted, he's coming with Traxxar. The Brave Overloader's perfect for a guy who can fight Gears for limited amounts of time and keep them off his partner's back, making counterplay off of the reconstruction slightly harder. Also, precision instruments like beaks and claws are great when your Puppeteer can ping the enemy Gear to find precision points to strike.

Reserving the idea of a weaponized tyrannosaurus rex for another time, here's my gear.

  • Gear Name: Titan Scarab
  • Personality: Even though it's mouth parts make audible dialogue with most creatures impossible, Titan would be a Gear of few words if granted the ability to speak. Having studied the many non-verbal gestures of the people around him has given him a certain appreciation of mutual understanding. Given that he trusts person's intentions and doesn't' believe they deserve the trouble they're in, He'll do whatever he can to help others. Whether the Gear's blunt-as-a-hammer approach to almost every given issue actually helps in the long run can, of course, be a matter of debate. Often resorts to tests of strength as a means of resolving personal conflicts (owing the to nature of the creature from which he was derived), but sees killing as an absolute last resort. He doesn't hate any particular race, but feels a particular kinship with Dvergers.
  • Appearance: Seven-and-a-half fee tall, and wide enough to hide two people (and maybe a child) behind his bulk, Titan Scarab rarely fails to make a presence wherever he wanders. The fact that he's a bipedal beetle may also add to his off-putting effect. Nearly every inch of his body save for his joints is covered in a black carapace, from his three-toed feet, to his four trunk-like arms, to the three-foot long pronged horn on his head. A reddish-brown fur pokes out slightly from in-between the plates where his collar bone would be located, forming a semi circle around the back of his head. Two pitch-black, bead shaped eyes space themselves evenly from the root of Scarab's horns. In the place of a mouth, a set of mandibles, which look more akin similar to a vertically aligned bear-trap than anything. On his back, two large shell-plates obscure a mammoth set of papery, yellow wings.
  • Gender: Male
  • Magic Affinity: Kinetic
  • Stats
    • STR: S
    • END: A
    • AGI: D
    • C. QLT: C
    • C. QNT: C
    • CON: C
  • Brave Arm
    • Name: Juggernaut
    • Title: The Unstoppable Force
    • Rank: A
    • Effect: A massive, marble-looking bolder, eight feet by eight feet. Weighs in alongside small buildings, and is about as durable as that would suggest.
  • Brave Overloader
    • Name: Indomitable
    • Title: The Immovable Object
    • Rank: B
    • Effect': For a one minute second period, the energy of any blow to his person is dispersed evenly through his body, radically reducing it's effect.
  • Brave Finish
    • Name: The Final Result
  • Effect: A for a few moments, the world rotates as usual, but not Titan along with it. That bit of friction goes into the last blow. The moneymaking haymaker. More than enough to get the job done; definitely enough to send bug parts everywhere, shards of magic core following the entrails.
