If I recall, "KIRISHIMA PAWNCH" comes from the fact that she's the only IJN battleship to ever slug it out with her American counterparts. She totally wailed onto the South Dakota before the Washington came to the rescue and so Washington and Kirishima do what battleships do and beat the ever-loving daylights out of each other, except it ended up being mostly one sided since even between battleships you got hax power levels. Kirishima lost that battle and sank, but it cemented her status as a brawler who would, and did, challenge another brawler.
It was the first of only two instances that IJN and USN battleships actually fought each other, the other being Yamashiro at Leyte Gulf, but that was like, six against one, and ended up more like a suicide charge than a slugging match.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimInteresting. And I learned today that Kirishima's stats end up exceeding her sisters when she reaches Kai Ni (yes, even while they are Kai Ni too), and simultaneously exceeding that of Nagato (Kongou only equals her). Does that qualify Kirishima for being a Genius Bruiser, given she's obviously the most intellectual of her sisters and her battle-related dialogue includes lines that indicate she actively makes mental calculations (probably for precision aiming) during combat?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I believe there's a case for that trope, yes. Technically they're all bruisers, but she's almost as strong as Roma, who's significantly more resource demanding. On one hand, sure, it's only a few points difference (especially considering the default gun has three times that firepower), but on the other hand, there's a difference for a reason. And her intelligence is certainly emphasised.
Choukai would probably also qualify for the same reason, being similarly characterised for calculations, and having the highest firepower and second strongest torpedoes out of any heavy cruiser (which makes her one of the overall strongest ships, period). Problem with her, I'm not sure how that's actually characterised, since I don't like to rely on only stats for tropes.
Looking at the page, The Rival and Unknown Rival, who are those supposed to be on? Is the latter better placed on the one who considers the other a rival, or on that rival who doesn't seem to know about it?
Check out my fanfiction!I think one can make a case for both ways, actually, since it's a relationship between two characters, a la Huge Guy, Tiny Girl and Huge Girl, Tiny Guy. Usually when A is The Rival to B, the reverse is true; Unknown Rival is when the rivalry is one-sided, and yet it's still a two-person relationship.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Going by the trope page, Unknown Rival would be for the character who is the unknown rival. I think the one-sidedness trumps the two-person part of this relationship. For the unknown rival, it's a component of their character. For the object of their rivalry, it doesn't even register; You could write out the whole idea and it wouldn't effect their character in any way.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimActually, it technically does, in that it highlights their obliviousness to their rival's hostility/competitiveness for whatever reason.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Well that explains why Kirishima is depicted with Cherno Alpha.
With a "0", not an "O".What's a Cherno Alpha?
Check out my fanfiction!Cherno Alpha is the first thing you see here. You can no doubt see where the comparisons for brawler with Kirishima come from.

"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimAnd the fact that Cherno Alpha goes down after fighting 2 kaiju at the same time.
With a "0", not an "O".I wasn't gonna say it, but I was thinking the same thing after I watched the video.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimThat reminds me, one of the same artists drew Kongou as Coyote Tango (Coyote Kongou? Kongou Tango?), which makes sense since that Jaeger and Cherno Alpha are Mark 1 types and Kongou and Kirishima are of the same class.

With a "0", not an "O".I think I posted that months ago, but it's great to see it again. Here's another Turret Punch.

With a "0", not an "O".I don't know what Akagi did to warrant that face crunching, but knowing her I'm sure it was well deserved.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimI have now preordered the Kotobukiya Cu-Poche figurines of Ikazuchi and Hibiki :3
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!A few things about questions asked a few pages back.
Fairies talking: They do talk in the 4-koma in a few scenes. Strangely enough their speech appear similar to how Abyssals are shown talking (letters without speech bubbles)
The Compass: It may be not clear witout checking the wiki, but each map on the game come with small bit of flavor text that indicate that the battles taking place in it were a single isolated incident, instead of it being a place that have to be visited several times over to keep Abyssals from causing trouble. The compass, in this case, would indicate how the shipgirls have to decide which course to take on the fly, since they don't actually know the enemy's location and what exactly they are doing. This occur as the girls have to go for days with little to no support and minimal contact with the base.

Chopsticks to the head. Ouch. That must be some really good food if Kaga is willing to fight Akagi over it.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimIt's "Mamiya's Bauxite Special", according to the strip immediately before it. And Kaga has the only one left for the day.
It's time... for MORTAL KOMBAT!!!
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I'm reminded of this one comic where Akagi notices Kaga leaving the Admiral's room in the morning, and once Kaga is gone, Akagi goes up to the Admiral demanding to know why she never gets the romantic options and is stuck as the big eater character in every comic. The Admiral then asks her which she loves more, him or bauxite. Akagi has the most indecisive frozen expression for three whole panels.
Last page is Akagi crying. And eating.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min Kim... Link please. That is way too funny to not seek out.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Alas, I tried, but failed to find it for my last post.

Well, I finally looked up that Danbooru pool where the compass mechanic is given a explanation.
... Yikes. That makes a lot of sense. You may not get what you want (i.e. reach the boss node), but you will definitely get what you need (i.e. avoid impossible-to-win odds and death-trap ambushes) if you follow the compass's directions. Scary to think that the Abyssals may actually be using the entire frigging ocean as their physical "vessel", with the individual forms being merely condensed extensions for direct interaction with the world.
EDIT: Holy... Get a load of this, guys.
She serve as Eyes (read : Spy) while not on Supply Duty.
in short she was a MP for any lazy IJN & Civ Spy for any information on enemy by Local Market Link.
EDIT the 2nd: Wait, so fairies were created from the embryonic cores of the Abyssals?!
EDIT the 3rd: So much headcanon that makes so much sense. Screw this, someone make a hard-translated version of this so I can save it to my computer! On another note, I'm getting the feeling that the "KIRISHIMA PAWNCH" thing isn't an isolated instance.
