Well, technically parties are only supposed to have 6 people, but I mathed badly and let 7 in.

Well, since he never participated in the battle (if I'm not mistaken), you could say he was the one to sit it out. tongue

So, on the rules of fighting during the next engagement:

Is anyone opposed to me making a map on a spreadsheet in Google docs and using that to keep track of everything? That way it would be easier to keep track of backstabs, distance, etc., and it would actually allow for much more tactical planning. Each character would have their movement score equal to what it would be in-game (if you don't know yours, you can check out the FF Wikia). Speed would probably not come up a whole lot, since most enemies will either be about on your guys' level or a notch above (i.e., a Ninja might get two to your one, but he's a Ninja and obviously faster than you guys). Attack and Defense will be rolled for usually, since I don't take your particular armor into account a whole lot (just Bad-Med-Good and Light-Med-Heavy, which is close enough for now). Your equipment -does- matter, of course. But I'll be experimenting with exactly how much precision is necessary to allow for tactics while not killing myself in spreadsheets.

Now, the other thing is learning new abilities/jobs. I'm leaning towards a system similar to the original FFT over Tactics Advance/A2; that is, after each mission, you get Ability Points (AP), and between missions you can spend AP to learn new abilities. I'm pretty lenient on primary/secondary jobs; you can spend your total AP on any abilities available, even if it isn't one of your jobs. After a while I might PM people about special job ideas to fit each character better, like advanced classes or something.

Any questions? Comments? Opinions?

Any ideas on how you're going to streamline the process of everyone saying what they're going to do during a turn? It's been my experience that waiting for each person to post in sequence tends to kill this type of game since it ends up in people waiting days just to get to their turn again.

[up][up]He could always just give it a cap of 24 hours, then say "Sorry, you're SOL," and end the turn? Say people rested or something?

I would say something like 6 hours a turn, with turn order being slightly fluid. Of course, if it doesn't work, we can try something else.

Which reminds me, what timezone are you all in?

I don't recommend going lower than 24. Some days, people only have 1 chance to be on the internet at all.

GMT+8 here.

What if all player character actions are resolved at the same time?

Yeah, sometimes I don't get a chance to post more than once a day. I'm at GMT+10.

Having each player post their action, then having the end of the turn resolving those actions at once, is the sort of system I've used in the past when I've GM'd. it works pretty well IMO.

Okay. So a max of 24 hours, though if everyone posts I'll just put up the events and then the next turn will start. Also, if you miss a turn, it shouldn't be super important, and I'll give you priority the next turn.

And the turn will be resolved in whatever order by me, though you guys can say "After x ran forward, my character follows behind them" or something, giving directions in relation to other characters.
