That's not how it works. Minori-tachi sits out because they are literally children. You can best believe that if Akatsuki or any of the other older characters were low leveled that they would still be allowed into the meeting.

I meant that as a joke about how the series uses level as shorthand for maturity, but since you're taking it seriously I'd like to note that Isuzu is treated as a kid while William Massachusetts is treated as an adult, despite them both apparently being high school students. Maybe it's not the clearest comparison since they're in different guilds, but do you really think Shiroe would treat William as a kid in any circumstance? Can you even imagine that happening, in a serious context?

And you see who's lower level by who's shorter. Aka used to be a tall, dark, and hansome male ninja.

Thing is though Scrub Horizon actually look like kids and teenagers (indeed, Crescent Moon has a grade-schooler player who actually has an avvie that looks her age), while William does look and act the part of an adult, despite being a high schooler in real life (and Shiroe doesn't know this fact too).

And it's not that there aren't any superficial changes too — Touya is taller now compared to half a year ago, and in the LN Minori mentioned that she's had to have her hair cut a few times already.

And what I take from all this is that the author decided it was simpler for the story if everyone low level was actually young in real life. Which is totally nonsensical, but incredibly consistent. Shiroe's never asked if Isuzu or Serara were actually housewives in their forties (because to do so would would be rude under their etiquette), but he stills feels entirely justified in treating them like children because the show's setting allows him to be justified.

The original response noted that I "had best believe" that a low-level adult would be allowed to participate, but the counter to that is that you "had best believe" that no such character will ever actually exist.

I think that anyone who didn't have an appearance that matched their personality/maturity would probably have made that clear a little earlier, when it became obvious they'd actually have to live in those bodies, rather than just watching them while playing a computer game. So it's probably more or less fair to treat them as they look.

Well, clearly they're not wearing name tags with their real ages on them, so maybe not. Keep in mind that this also a world with catpeople and whatnot.

Also, Shiroe's body-transforming potion was said to be rare since it was a one-time-only event item that can be used up.

Not gonna lie, I didn't even know William was only a teenager until you pointed it out. Though I'd argue that with William looking and acting like an adult that he's an exception to what I stated earlier.

I find that people higher up in the leadership of guilds are often more mature than the regular members. Not that there aren't immature brats in the leadership on occasion, but those are everywhere anyway.

I did say "everywhere", after all. tongue

Been a guild leader myself, although in a MUD rather than an MMO, for what difference that makes. Probably the shortest lasting ever, in that game, as it was just temporary during an election, since I was the highest ranking guild member at that time. Also an order head, but that's a bit less of an accomplishment.

Elder Tale is supposed to be an old game, like Everquest. Which means that anyone with a high-leveled character is likely to have been playing for years and is probably an adult by now.

The slight undercurrent of casual sexism is starting to annoy me. It wouldn't if it was just characters thinking what they do, but looking at it on the whole it seems to be voicing the attitude of the creator. It's not large scale bigotry, but some aspect of it seems to ping up in almost every episode.

The whole thing might not bother me as much, if you're overly sensitive to such things you probably can't handle anime at all, but I think it's starting to take over the experience for me partly because the animation isn't anywhere close to being good enough to distract me. Plus the plot dithers about showing signs of interesting concepts but then addressing about everything else.

Finally, am I the only one who thinks Tohyas attitude on going home is ridiculous? It's the type of thing that looks good when you write it but doesn't hold up to any thorough scrutiny. Much like a lot of other things in the series, really.

Episode 23. In which there's a boy and his adventurer.

Tag team trolling is fun. For everyone involved except one.

It's always about money in this series.

Nice puppet.

She's surprisingly tall.

He's surprisingly short.

I think I know where the family motivation went.

Of course that's the point he'd show any sign of warming up.

One merchant reminds me of another.

Miniquest! Box troubles! Reward: small basket of strawberries.

Well, one of them is popular already.

However lazy she may be, she's still a big sister.

Okay, that first hit was funny.

That's not good. But Lene seems fine.

[up]There's casual sexism in most anime. A lot here I'd also chalk up to being a quasi-medieval world.

I don't find his reasoning to be particularly odd. It's a different way of seeing things, is all, and I've probably seen far stranger.

Episode 23:

  • Worrying = wrinkles. So stop worrying, Roe 1.tongue
  • It's the junior's turn to have a meeting. Today's topic: Home.
  • The spotlight has been doing nice things to Issac. And trolly things too.tongue
  • An ambitious dream you got there, Tetra. Just don't feel bad if Lene grabs all the attention.tongue
  • Hold, Lenessia. I know what you're trying to say, but not all glasses people are like that. Remember Henrietta? ...When she isn't in Akatsuki Mode.tongue
  • For Yamato's peace, just get beat into the ground, assassins.
  • People are shutting down. The Red Night is in full swing...

Episode 24. In which there are two options.

They're talking like they can do only one thing at once. With people from several guilds.

Just because some people can't do what you can doesn't mean you should. And I've never really found the attachment of a place to go home to any more significant than making a home out of where and who you currently are.

How plot-convenient it would be there.

Nice invention.

One person in the first group looks decidedly more expendable than the rest.

Woah, that's certainly surprising. He didn't adjust his glasses. Is the world ending?

Eh, I'd bet on Mari. At least that healing is filled with true feelings.

I kind of wonder if he's second-guessing himself because he thinks their enemies know what their plans are, and thus don't want to do what he'd normally want to do, or if it's because he doesn't want to win.

Was that his own shield or one of Nao's skills?

Ah, so it was for that reason. Makes sense, really.

And then he picks his own path. The only path he can walk with full confidence.

  • Deadly Sleep Powder!
  • You know something's wrong when Shiroe doesn't adjust his glasses.
  • To Shibuya! And with monsters appearing rapidly, en masse, reaching That One Level status... Definitely a raid zone, yeah?tongue
  • Shiroe at his worst? One slap and a few declarations will fix him up just fine.
  • Go back home, or stay put and save this home? Shiroe's answer is to put on the most villainous look ever, and prepare to have the best of both worlds.

Episode 25. In which there's communication with lunatic people.

That's an exact time to moonrise. Although in a game it would be someting you measure in seconds.

Random attack name calling.

A tank only needs to be able to get aggro and survive the attacks. Class doesn't really matter.

I somehow find it amusing that they compare with Demi.

Fastball Special.

This isn't the time to get jealous, or worse, play jealous.

Holding off three people who wield twice as many swords alone just looks silly. Extended sword binds are stupid enough on their own, but that...

By the way, delayed comment, but I think Henrietta looks better like that. Don't get to see her fight all that often.

Is drooling any better? Still best couple.

And then we have a section of Kanami being Kanami. And she has a kid. And Shiro knew. That's neat. Most importantly, finally someone has that way of looking at their situation. Probably the best part of the episode.

Rudy and Suzu share a look. Nice detail.

Now that's a nice and unwitting bombshell to drop. Glad to see him alive.

Totally didn't do anything.

She intended to hit her from there?

And then Shiro's true love shows up.

And the glasses adjustment defeated the raid boss! (Close enough)

None of the former DTP members would be surprised if kanami is on the moon would they? But alas she's just in the china server. Probably the only time we will get a reaction face out of nyanta.

Krusty is also there...with a severed and twitching (that's...disturbing) arm.

Oops, he totally did NOT touch any of the wires. [lol]
