Can you really play against type if you are only known for like 3 roles and they are all different?
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsNope. Who's the actor/actress in question, btw?
It's THE KING IN THE NORTH!◊
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsSo much fuss about him being a charming prince and none about Helena Bonham-Carter finally not being a creepy gothic lady or Cate Blanchett being an evil stepmother.
Ah, I see.
Good to know. I only like Bonham-Carter when she doesn't do those kind of roles (hence why the most recent movie I saw of her was The King's Speech.
It's because not only is his character royalty, his character's situation and choices are also very similar to some events in Game Of Thrones. Except in that case marrying for love rather than for diplomatic/political considerations ended very, very, very badly for him and his wife.
Not in the books. Hahahaha.
Anyway, I think it'll be very good. I certainly see it becoming THE Cinderella adaptation like Ever After has been for awhile now.
I'd say the strangeness of Richard Madden/ROBB STARK, FIRST OF HIS NAME, KING IN THE NORTH! is less because of his marriage business and because his character in Game of Thrones was shown as gruff, tough-as-nails, a conqueror, battle-hardened and even somewhat grim despite his young age.
So it's strannge seeing him as a blue-eyed dyed-in-the-wool literal Prince Charming in fancy clothes and rich castles after seeing THE KING IN THE NORTH crush his enemies on the dirtied battlefield in dark leather, covered in blood.
It's like, Prince Charming is the exact opposite of nobility than THE KING IN THE NORTH.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Someone is going to write a fanfic where they meet each other.
Then because fanfic writers are weird the two versions are going to fuck each other.

It still turned out badly for his wife in the books, just not as badly as it did in the show (for now?).
Really? Honestly, what studio would go through the trouble to alter the waist of an actress for a long scene of the movie...the effort would destroy the budget.
Especially considering that the combination of corset and huge dress have the exact effect of making women's waists look tiny.
Not Three Laws compliant.I never even noticed her waist size. Who were the ones calling it digitally altered?
Saw the trailer of this on Still Alice, and honestly... it looks kinda good. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on making the romance less generic, with Cinderella and the Prince being equals more or less. There also seems to be a bit of Schizo Tech about; nothing major, but, like some of the stuff looks 1700s-ish and other stuff looks 1920s-ish, if that makes sense at all.

The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Mostly people who were worried about the effect it would have on the body image of young girls. Not that it isn't important...there's just far better targets than this movie.
Not Three Laws compliant.Eh, there is nothing wrong with putting a woman who has a healthy weight in a dress which flatters her. The actress doesn't strike me as overly thin.
Yeah, there's an enormous difference between photoshop and flattering clothing. And anyway, having a big princess would be a really interesting twist (someone should do that, with a positive portrayal), a faithful remake of Cinderella is not the place.

Not Three Laws compliant. To be honest....while I wouldn't mind to see more curvy woman on TV, as well as some who have some healthy fat reserves on their hips, I don't get the requests for outright fat or even obese role models. I get the desire for woman to feel beautiful, but overeating is as much a disorder as bulimia is, and it is just as bad for the health. I don't think that encouraging children than being overweight is something desirable is a good thing. That is just going into the other extreme.
I just think it would be an interesting subversion of expectations.
Not Three Laws compliant.Any opinions yet?
Well, haven't seen it yet, but all the reviews I have seen so far say basically the same: Nothing new or ground-breaking, but really, really well done.
I hope to see it by this week. Need to get some work things out of the way first.
Playing Against Type is a thing, and no one wants to get stuck in a specific type of role.
