And guess what? The NEXT next episode, "The Perfect Pear," AKA the one with the Apple parents, is ALSO online.

Great.

Now I gotta deal with BOOMERANG in Australia doing a "treehouse TV" and airing episodes a week before Discovery Family airs them??

No more.

Did you really have to use one of Sereg's posts on that topic as a post of the day?

Also I never understood why people don't just watch the episodes as soon as they get leaked early. I mean unless you're watching it on the channel that airs the series, you're not exactly watching new FIM episodes in a way that brings ratings and money to the show to begin with, so you can't really use "I wanna support the series!" as an excuse to not watch leaked episodes early.

I'd rather watch the episodes after they air air air air.

Because even though I know it first aired legally on another network elsewhere in the world, I feel like I'm cheating. Also, whoever airs it first gets the best ratings.

Well I'm talking about people who actively watch new episodes as they come out.

[up] Do you actually watch the episodes on Discovery Family as they come out instead of online when they air, though? Not very many people do, so I'm curious.

I watched both episodes that Australia aired early, but I'll wait to discuss them here until they air "officially" in the US since not everyone watches them early.

Not to mention how THIS particular episode is getting MORE hype than the average episode, because this is the one guest-starring William Shatner!

I usually wait so that I can post my reactions along with everybody else as it airs. It's more fun than watching it and not being able to talk about it much until a week or 2 later.

I have to watch them online because I don't get whatever channel MLP broadcasts on. I'm definitely gonna watch the two "leaked" eps.

I wait, because I like to write my reviews on the spot as I think of things, and I like to post my reviews as soon as I can after the episode's aired.

"The Perfect Pear" is extremely tempting, however, because AJ's parents are a major part of a story I'm writing right now - Timing! - and I need to know if my story can at all be reconciled with what it's going to reveal or if I'm going to have to issue another "Like Canon But" errata.

Like, I'm also nervous about the upcoming episode with Twilight's parents because I've already lain groundwork for a story to come later about Twilight not being particularly close to them, and I'm half-expecting that episode to have Twilight go, "It's good to spend some time with you! Just like we do every Friday and ALWAYS HAVE."

Frankly, I'll be impressed if AJ's parents just have the common decency to remain Implied Dead like they've been for years. Parental Glideance exiled Rainbow Blaze from Dash's family tree while "Hard to Say Anything" brutally sunk the Cheerimac ship, both under the simple logic of, "Well, we know it's been implied, but no one ever explicitly stated this was actually a thing," So this season's already been pretty bad for implied plot points.

^You could just have your fic be an AU or something. You don't have to obsessively stick to Canon, especially not if it's a Fic idea you've had long before the subject matter came up in the actual show.

I mean, Hearthbreakers didn't already kind of sink the Cheerimac ship?

Is totally not salty that amounted to nothing.

^Let's be honest, there's a ton of concepts in this show that ultimately amount to nothing. Babs Seed, Scorpan being mentioned only to never actually appear, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon's Heel–Face Turn {Since they've now been demoted to background ponies}, Twilight becoming a princess, etc.

I'm pretty sure Cheerimac was sunk by H&HD itself with their repeated insistance that they're just friends. It's just that shippers would rather ignore that bit.

I record them via my DVR and watch them directly that way. I only use online if I missed an episode(and since my DVR right now is not working with On Demand correctly, due to the sound de-syncing...).

I'm often also gone before the episode is on or sleeping, so...

Now, I wasn't here for it, but I was under the impression that H&HD is what spawned Cheerimac in the first place. Most of the fluffy Cheerimac bits I've noticed like her swooning over him in "Filli Vanilli" and then checking to see if he'd noticed or that photo of them together on the Crusaders' wall of satisfied customers exist after H&HD introduced the idea.

Heartbreakers didn't so much sink the ship as introduce a competing one. The mane distinction being that "Hard to Say Anything" actually has Apple Bloom and Big Mac step aside and outright say, "Cheerimac was NEVER, EVER, EVER a thing even all those times we teased it, so don't ever bring it up again! Sugarmac for lyfe, bitches!"

Maybe not in as many words, but the point is that Apple Bloom actually brings up Cheerimac and, in a few seconds of dialogue, it is quickly and definitively established that none of those instances of Cheerimac after H&HD ever counted for anything. It's the super-awkward method of shilling an Official Couple by having the characters involved verbally deride the Fan-Preferred Couple in the canon.

Like if Twilight and Flash Sentry went on a date and Twilight was like, "Man, I sure am glad that I'm here with you and not with Rainbow Dash. Some people actually think I have feelings for her. Isn't that the silliest thing you've ever heard?"

It could be the case that Sugar Belle is the first pony Big Mac has had a real crush on, she's not the first pony to have a crush on him. Those moments could hint towards Cheerilee having a possible crush on him (I'm thinking of the Ponytones moment in particular), but with him being oblivious to it/not reciprocating.

I have had to exile a plot point from the canon of my fic once. I just don't like doing it. I want my series to be additive rather than subtractive.

I remember having that issue in a fic too. Amusingly my timing was awful: my fic mentioned Spike stilling having the phoenix from "Dragon Quest" in a chapter released like a day before the episode that revealed he sent it back to its parents. Of course, that was shortly eclipsed by Twilight growing wings in canon.

I think the worst one for me was in Bitmore theatre, which has Diamond Tiara and, to a lesser extent, Silver Spoon being terrible two years after the series proper as a major plot point.

Crusaders of the Lost Mark aired about halfway through writing it.
