Hey there, Hi there, Ho there, You're as welcome as can be! Welcome to the Disney Superheroes RPG, an ambitious attempt to combine two things that everybody's loved at some point in their lives. Probably, I'm sure.

The Premise:

  • Select one Disney Movie, or Disney Original Series.
  • Select a character you can roleplay as, or one that you just really like.
  • Reimagine that character as a superhero, with costumes, powers/skills and obligatory tragic backstory.
  • Place into contemporary setting, either through having them be a modern character, or by literally warping them out of their world into this one.
  • Bake until solidified, and serve immediately.

The idea has promise, if pictures like these are anything to go by. So if it tickles your fancy, then let us make magic!

The Setting

  • Modern Day Calisota, a state somewhere between California and Minnesota, with all the range of weather.
  • Humans are pretty much dominant, and live in human-inhabited locales like Tri-City Area and the Tri-State Area.
  • Anthropomorphic animals are a minority. They tend to live in 'ethnic enclaves' like Mousetown, or in cities founded by animals such as Duckburg.
  • Regular animals can communicate with one another, provided they know the language, but not usually to anyone remotely humanoid.
  • There exist 'Fairy Worlds': Pocket dimensions that are focal points for magic. They can be entered from anywhere, be it a rabbit hole or a star in the sky.
  • Meanwhile, elsewhere in the galaxy, a United Galactic Federation has formed among the thousands of spacefaring races. They are none too interested in Earth.
  • Magic has slowly faded from the world, ever since the middle ages. Some think it never existed. Some say it was stolen and harvested away. Others think it's just waiting for a chance to come back.

Many of the plot points here might be subject to change, but that should give us something to hold on to. Moving on:

Character Sign Up Sheet

  • Name: (The Disney character being adapted)
  • Alias: (If character has a superhero name)
  • Gender: (Self explanatory)
  • Age: (Need not be exact)
  • Appearance: (Description okay, but pictures preferred)
  • Alignment: (Good guy, Bad guy, or anything in between)
  • Personality: (How they behave around folks)
  • Powers and Abilities: (Even if they don't have superpowers, they probably have SOME kind of talents, right?)
  • Weapons and Equipment: (If they have any tools, and especially if their Powers come from their tools, then stick 'em down here.)
  • Origin Story: (Who is this character? What is it? How did it come to be there?)

And last but not least,

Rules:

  • Only characters from Disney Animated Canon, Pixar works, and select Original Series. No Live Action or Marvel.
  • If playing an Animated Canon Villain, only chose those from the films, or Direct-to-DVD. Villains from any Recycled: The Series are fair game for the GM.
  • No harassing or flaming against any other players.
  • No God-Modding, No Autohitting

With all that said, wish upon whatever star is available, and get ready to save yourself a world.

Character Roster

I was going to play Darkwing Duck, but I changed my mind. Instead I'll be:

  • Name: Dipper Pines
  • Alias: The Third Eye
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 12
  • Appearance: [1] (As The Third Eye, he wears a brown hooded robe with the symbol of the Eye in the Pyramid on it)
  • Alignment: good guy
  • Personality: Shy, especially around pretty girls. However he is also very determined, especially when protecting people.
  • Powers and Abilities: His main powers are the magical spells he reads from The Second Journal of The Six-Fingered Hand (see below); on his own, while not very strong he's very resourceful. For a 12 year old that is.
  • Weapons and Equipment: The Second Journal of the Six Fingered Hand contains secrets about the supernatural creatures of the world, and spells that can be used to summon or banish them. He has yet to master them all.
  • Origin Story: Dipper Pines (ad his twin sister, Mabel) were sent by their parents to spend one summer with their Grand-Uncle Stan at his place in the backwoods town of Gravity Falls. During that time Dipper found the Second Journal and had all kinds of supernatural adventures. Now, he and his sister have returned home and he brought back the book with him, deciding to use it to help keep the World safe (and give himself a confidence boost) as- The Third Eye!!

Name: The Horned King

Gender: Male

Age: Really fucking old.

Appearance: Here.

Alignment: Evil.

Personality: The Horned King is a proud and cruel being. He prizes power above everything else, and will do whatever he can to acquire more of it. He is prone to fits of anger over failure, though it's very difficult to get him to respect someone enough to truly hate them. He is, however, utterly loyal to the idea of complete victory for evil, and he is thus open to aiding other evil beings if it allows them to spread evil. He is also willing to teach others dark magic, as it inevitably corrupts them even further. He is more found of the undead than the living, and subsequently treats them with more respect.

Powers and Abilities: The Horned King prizes power above all else, and he has had a long time to accumulate it. Though his favored art is necromancy, he is a master of many evil magics. His dark power also naturally boosts his strength, so that even his skeletal form can at least toss someone (Taran in the movie) several feet with one hand.

Weapons and Equipment: The Horned King does have a libraries worth of magic tomes and arcane texts, though he obviously doesn't keep them on him.

Origin Story: Long ago, in an ancient land known as Prydain, there was a being known as the Death-Lord Arawn, master of the Dread Lands of Annuvin. Arawn was a being of great and terrible power, and he used that power with horrific abandon. It was he that turned Annuvin from a relatively normal place into a festering hellscape and borderline Genius Loci that actively tried to ensure evils victory. Unimaginable cruelties were perpetuated by him, and he became a devil in the eyes of Prydain.

During this time, Arawn finally learned how to trespass into the realm of the Gods. He created life. This being he had created was christened the Horned Huntsman, and was made Arawns right hand man. Arawn taught the Huntsman in the ways of evil, and the two of them carved a bloody swath through Prydain with a vengeance.

What happened next, no one knows. Some say that Arawn was betrayed, others say the gods themselves decided they had had enough of him. The end result, however, was the same. Arawn was vanquished, his armies routed, and Annuvin itself vanished from the Earth.

In the vacuum created by Arawns demise, the Horned Huntsman flourished. He declared himself the Horned King and systematically subjugated and/or annihilated the surviving peoples of the Dread Lands. He then spent most of the intervening centuries between then and now learning magic, increasing his power, and formulating plans of conquest and destruction. During this time, he mastered the art of necromancy (among others) and became a lich. What his phylactery is and where it's hidden are his most fiercely guarded secrets.

The Horned King had long ago figured out how to return to Earth (though he's still looking for a way to return Annuvin), but he is only now beginning to actively use this knowledge. He has extended an open invitation to any truly evil villain to come to Annuvin whenever they need to rest and regroup. After all, the more mischief they cause, the more the world he failed to conquer so long ago suffers.

He will see this world swallowed by evil and under his rule, or he will see it burned into nothingness.

  • Name: Donald Duck
  • Alias: The Duck Avenger
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Mid to late 30's
  • Appearance: "I am the vengeance! I am the night! I am... very hungry. And scared. How am I going to get down from here?" Another look.
  • Alignment: Good
  • Personality:
    • Donald Duck is a positive, yet short-tempered, duck, who's always enjoying life when something (usually some kind of daily life trouble, his uncle or his nephews) turns him into an unintelligible mess of anger who wants to punch whatever and whoever is on his way (he'll often start jumping from one foot to the other, swinging one hand while holding out the other, ready to fight). This anger can also come from fear- Donald is known for being somewhat of "a lazy coward"- and can lead to an unnatural desire to obtain revenge. However, even as he pranks the ones who got him into such a sour mood, Donald never has any malice behind his actions, being a good duck in his heart who'll dedicate himself to the task at hand and always be there for his friends and family.
    • The Duck Avenger, on the other hand, is a quiet, brooding, calm, concentrated, precise, disciplined hero who hides in the darkness and messes with his enemy's fears before taking them down. At least... that's the image Donald sells of the Duck Avenger. In truth, the DA is a lot like Donald's good side- dedicated, ready to fight, using his intelligence rather than his fists to win the day- but that doesn't mean he doesn't display some of Donald's less... noble traits- like his occasional cowardice and fear.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Martial Arts Expert: yeah, right. The Duck Avenger does know how to fight, but he's not an expert of any kind. In fact, his strength comes from..
    • Quick Thinking: This may seem like a stupid power, but the Duck Avenger's quick thinking is incredible. He can, in the middle of a fight, analyse the area and devise some plan using the objects around him and his enemy's weaknesses. If he can't find a way to use the area he's in, he'll lure the enemy to some other area. This quick thinking can often save the day or cause more trouble, it all depends on the villain.
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Gadgets!: Thanks to the combined efforts of Gyro and Donald's other uncle, Ludwig Von Drake, the Duck Avenger has a myriad of gadgets he can use at any moment. His cape allows him to glide, and he has the usual gadgets- grappling hook, smoke pellet, night vision goggles- all of them outfitted in his utility belt. But the Duck Avenger also has access to some amazing gadgets created by Ludwig and Gyro's combined geniuses, like the Color Coordinator (a device that allows him to shift the colors of the light in order to make him or an object invisible).
  • Origin Story: Donald Duck lived peacefully in Duckburg. His life wasn't a hurricane, there were no racecars, lasers or airplanes, and it wasn't a duck blur for sure. He didn't solve mysteries or rewrite history- in fact, he was a perfectly happy duck. That is, until his Uncle, Scrooge Mc Duck, the richest duck in the world, decided to hire a new personal bodyguard. Scared of what might happen to his Uncle if his enemies took the position, Donald created the persona of the Duck Avenger and applied for the job. It was only after a though fight with the Beagle Boys that he decided to take the job seriously, asking local geniuses Gyro and Ludwig Von Drake to create gadgets that would help him defeat the twisted minds that went after Scrooge's money. His popularity began to grow, and enjoying the fame, Donald decided to expand the Duck Avenger's protection over to the city, taking on other criminals. While at first he enjoyed the headlines, it was only after he saw his girlfriend Daisy, his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and a couple of their friends talking about how the Duck Avenger changed the city that he realized he was doing actual good by taking the mantle of a superhero. It was that night that Duckburg's Protector, the Duck Avenger, became a true hero, ready to defend the innocent against the superstitious cowardly lots that plague them!

I'm reserving Disney Yoda Mickey here for now. grin

Continuing the discussion on Scar from the interest thread: how about doing what TaleSpin did with Shere Khan and making him anthropomorphic? He could be a conniving nobleman who tries to ruin helpful plans Simba is setting up in Calisota in order to defame the younger lion and make him appear to be the more appropriate choice as next in line for whatever. Heck, if nobody decides to bring in the Xanatos, maybe he could be the Xanatos of the story instead! wink

I'm somewhat interested in this idea, though it's been a while since I've actually seen any Disney movies (apart from Wreck-It Ralph), so I'd have to go by what I remember (and what I read on TV Tropes about them)... well, unless I get the DV Ds out from the library or something.

So far so good. I think I'll wait until there's a big enough roster before I think about starting the game. Demovere can reserve Mickey, for now, though I can't help but wonder what his powers would be. A magic paintbrush? A key blade? Or something from some other identity?

...You know, Strato, from what I've gathered, Paperinik got his name from combining Paolino Paperino and Diabolik. By that logic, his translated name might be something like Duckabolik.

...Eh, maybe I'll name a Negaverse Donald after that.

This sounds good.

I'll write a sheet either this afternoon or tomorrow, but let it be known for now that I have a good idea for Fix-It Felix as a kind of Batman/Green Arrow/Green Lantern hybrid.

  • Name: Kim Possible
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Appearance: So not the drama. Civilian clothes as well...
  • Alignment: Good.... gal
  • Personality: While she still has her insecurities (like worrying about fashion and her outward appearances, her perfectionist, competitive, "bossy" attitude, and her arrogance at times) like any other teenager, Kim is a confident, smart, kind-hearted heroine with a strong sense of morals, and is incredibly protective of those around her.
  • Powers and Abilities: Thanks in part of being a cheerleader in Middleton High School, she is very agile and is at her peak of physical fitness. She holds her own very well in hand-to-hand combat and her intelligence makes her solve puzzles and problems quite easily.
  • Weapons and Equipment
    • Kimmunicator: Her most well known gadget, she has the Kimmunicator, a PDA-like device that lets her communicate with her friends and allies, and receive or search for information about the task at hand. It also serves as a scanner, super-magnet and analyzer.
    • Grappling Hook: Her other well known gadget is a grappling hook that allows her to swing from building to building. Sh can also use this for quick escapes, and to attack her opponents.
  • Origin Story: Kim was an ordinary girl who set up a babysitting service called Kim Possible.com under the slogan "I can do anything". Soon after, a spy agency accidentally contacted Kim on her website after a typing error looking for "Team Impossible". Since then, Kim has rose to fame as a teenage heroine who is contacted by people all around the world, from government to royalty stopping whomever try to take over the world.

[up][up][up] Well, apparently the American version is the Duck Avenger. But here in Brazil, he's called Super Pato, which translated would be Super Duck but that's too bland. Plus, Duck Avenger sounds way more awesome.

[up][up] If that is not the greatest idea in the world, then I don't know what is. Do it, Loco. Do it.

Kim Possible's accepted, along with pretty much everyone else.

The thought dawns on me as to how to handle the characters' supporting casts? For example, nigelstack, would you want to control Wade, and would Ron Stoppable enter into the picture?

Also, I think I might stick with the lower rung villains when things start, just in case someone wants to play as Shego and/or Dr Drakken.

  • Name: Felix Jr.
  • Alias: Fix-It
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Mid-twenties? Maybe? No bloody idea, to be honest.
  • Appearance: Jiminy jaminy! *
  • Alignment: Good guy. Very good guy, pretty much the nicest, squeaky-clean kind of superhero this side of Superman.
  • Personality: Felix is very kind and polite, with the cheery, can-do spirit right out of the most sickeningly wholesome 1950s sitcom. He's unfailingly friendly and honest to a fault, to the point where he cannot tell a lie. However, he's still not entirely sure about the whole "costumed adventurer" business, and he's probably likely to make more than a few mistakes along the way.
  • Powers and Abilities: He's fairly good with non-magical construction tools, seeing as how he works as an apartment superintendent. He can also jump pretty well. Yeah.
  • Weapons and Equipment: His magical hammer gives him a variety of construction-oriented powers: he can fix pretty much any kind of machine or building with a few well-placed taps on a break, or use it to quickly rearrange nearby items into magical utilities (such as ramps, staircases, or more outlandish designs depending on the situation).
  • Origin Story: Felix worked as a superintendant at Niceland Apartments, a luxury apartment building somewhere in Calisota's capital city. On the day that his father retired from his job, he bequeathed Felix his hammer; unbeknownst to his son or wife, he had been a masked crime fighter back in the 60s and 70s as the original Fix-It. Compelled by a sense of responsibility, Felix immediately took up the mantle of his father's superhero persona (although he still works his day job when he can), although he's still a little unsure about the whole thing.

  • Name: Doctor Facilier
  • Alias: The Shadow Man
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Unknown
  • Appearance: Sit down. Let's talk. Me, you... and my friends.
  • Alignment: Bad Guy
  • Personality: A scheming man with a soothing voice, Facilier is known for being really untrustworthy. He'll shake your hand, give you tea, compliment your appearance, but it's clear that he's just waiting for the right moment to dispatch you. He's conniving, using his victim's words against them, and is as cruel, remorseless and sadistic as he is charming, suave and smooth-talking. Despite his lack of morals and treacherous nature, he often sympathizes with the downtrodden and poor. Facilier also works for anyone that will give him power.have SOME kind of talents, right?)
  • Powers and Abilities: Technically? None. His one "power" is his ability to contact demons from other dimensions, which he refers to as his "friends from the other side". He has his own objectives, and accomplishes them by using the demon's powers... but not on himself. Facilier finds people who have been disillusioned by society and offers them superpowers to make their wildest dreams come true. He then convinces these people to do jobs for him, and once their usefulness has gone, makes their powers "overflow", sending their souls to his friends on the other side.
  • Weapons and Equipment: He has a cane. He can hit people in the face with it. He also has a mask talisman, which is what he uses to talk with his friends on the other side.
  • Origin Story: Facilier was a poor boy, living in the sewers, until he found a portal to an alternate dimension, filled with shadow demons, who gave him the chance to do all that he always desired. After a night of fun and excitement at the local park, the demons were ready to consume his soul, but Facilier wasn't a dumb kid, and he was ready to meet them with a proposition: they give him the chance to give other people powers in exchange for favors... and he would give them their souls. And so, Doctor Facilier was born, standing in the dark backstage of the villain scene, controlling others to do his bidding, building up the stairs to his eventual takeover of the entire country.

  • Name: Jake Long

  • Alias: the American Dragon

  • Gender: Male

  • Age: 13

  • Appearance: Human-[1]

Dragon-[2]

  • Alignment: Good

  • Personality: Arrogant, cocky, a jokester, lazy, and over-confident. Jake tends to not take his duties as seriously as he should, which ends up backfiring on him in the form of losing easy fights or failing simple tasks. But once he actually buckles down and focuses on what needs to be done, he is unexpectedly both competent and mature. When he's truely angry, he gets ''serious'', and is calm in the face of danger.

  • Powers and Abilities:

-Transforming into his dragon shape, which leads to being able to breathe fire and gaining wings to fly. His senses of sight and hearing are also boosted as a dragon. Jake can partially transform to gain only certain abilities at a time if he chooses.

-Kung Fu skills

-Talented skateboarder

  • Weapons and Equipment: His yellow skateboard with a red dragon decal.

  • Origin Story: Jake Long was born in New York City, and was trained by his Chinese dragon grandfather to become the protector of all the magical creatures who lived there in secret. He has recently moved to Calisota, in one of the human dominated cities. Taking his title of the Americal Dragon seriously, he made an effort to guard and help out any magical creatures hiding in the various fairy worlds nearby. Eventually, this translated into becoming a superhero himself, extending his duties to help any citizen who needs it. The many superhero fans he's attracted while stopping crime are good motivators too, and Jake isn't afraid of making a spectacle in the middle of doing so in order to get some press attention...while in costume, of course.
