Poor Image: Karmic Death

I have no idea of whats going on.

It appears to be about The Klan but yet its kinda blurry.

JPEEEEEEEGGGS! Seriously! What's with all the JPGS? They're driving me mad! The concept itself is okay. Klansmen are always carrying torches, so it's rather karmic if one gets burned. But another frame would be better, and for love of all things sacred, let's use a PNG.

Yeah, good thing that I use png. whenever possible.

I think it's clear what's going on, even if the quality sucks.

JPGs aren't inherently bad, though; I've got several good wallpapers in JPG format. However, once you start compressing a lot, then you get these kinds of things.

The pick is from the series "Reno 911", season one, ep 12 "terrorist training: part 1", if anyone feels like trying to look it up and snatch a better screenshot.

I don't like the picture. There's no way of knowing that the hero (whoever that would be) didn't set him on fire. This one seems difficult to have a picture for. We need to be able to tell that he's a villain and tell that he brought his death on himself.

Klansmen liked burning things, like crosses in black people's yards. The Klan guy is getting set on fire. It's ironic. If you don't get that, I suggest 7th grade history classes.

The cross in the background suggests that the guy was trying to light it on fire and accidentally lit himself. Works for me, although I'd like a higher quality version.

^^ The so-called problem is that "the villain dies in an ironic way, and the hero DID NOT cause their death" is a key element of the trope. However...

"It is possible to interpret this image in an incorrect way" is not a very strong argument, and depending on how unlikely the misinterpretation scenario is, may even be trying to make a Red Paint sort of case. Yes, it is possible that the hero interrupted the Klan ceremony and lit that guy on fire before he could light the cross on fire, but it's like 100x more likely that he did it himself in the course of trying to light the cross on fire. It's more probable that the burns weren't fatal. Who cares?

It's obvious he's a villain (hopefully, assuming the KKK are being portrayed as villainous is uncontroversial) and it's very likely that he brought that on himself.

I like it. Anyone have that series on disc (or whatever) and can capture a higher-quality version?

If you know anything about the Klan, you know they like to burn crosses. The fact he's on fire, but the cross isn't, makes it very clear that he set himself on fire while trying to light it.

That said, the quality is poor. Could use a quality upgrade. But even without, it's quite clear if you know anything about the Klan.

... that said, I feel like that might be a bit American-centric. I doubt non-Americans would know the practices of a group of American racists.

As a non-American, I know enough.

I know mainly thanks to what I taught myself when I was a little younger. It wasn't really a school topic.

Anybody know the episode this is from? Then we can screencap it. The only other image of that I found was this,◊ and quality is just as bad.

GIS didn't pull up a screencap of that particular scene, and the videos link didn't have that episode.

I obtained the episode, but I don't like the screenshots I'm getting. I'd say just clean up the current.
