That's not the point. It was working out pretty well for Capcom too, until the bubble ultimately burst. Inafune made the point of saying there was a dichotomy, that western devs didn't do the kinds of things he was frustrated with at Capcom... and then went on, while R&D Director, to expressly emulate their practices and design sensibilities for both good (Dead Rising) or ill (Dm C, Bionic Commando).
it's more than a little hypocritical, and it doesn't stop being that way just because he's cut himself loose from them. It's easy to build him up now that he's on his own, but while he faces new challenges like greater difficulty in getting games started, he also enjoys a lot of greater freedom to go back on a lot of the things he did as head of R&D and act like they never happened. Because it's Capcom that now has to deal with the repurcussions, not him.

My name has nothing to do with Psychonauts.I suppose that pretending like they never happened is peferable to continuing to do them, while not the ideal.

I have a message from another time...I'm not saying that he's pretending they never happened. I don't think he is. I'm saying that he's free of the consequences now, and that praising him for "taking back what was his from the corrupt" is really kind of skeevy when he did many of the same things when it wasn't his character at the forefront of things.
My name has nothing to do with Psychonauts. While I was never that big a fan of Classic Megaman (my first impression of Megaman was Zero, and I love that character to this day), I supported this on Kickstarter anyway.
Hey, if it means we get to see some interesting mechanics and get a fun game, why not? Though I'm personally more excited for Shovel Knight, this project has my interests as well.
This whole thing with Inafune and Capcom is a big clusterfuck. I've always loved Capcom's games, even their new ones (Dm C included), which makes me sad when they do stupid shit. So I'm hoping to God that they don't throw a tantrum over this project.
Admittedly, this project in itself does seem like a fairly spiteful act on Inafune's part, but judging by what other Capcom employees (former or not) have said, particularly Yoshinori Ono, I can't blame him for making Capcom a target of his spite.
"Shake the dust." - Anis MojganiIdeas for Inafune:
- Call Story: A sidestory for Call.
- Call Costumes: Remember all those alternate designs? Let her have a chance to use them all.
- Spike Power: Beck should get a power to let him collect those spikes and use them as ammo...
He will gain Spike Power if he defeats Spiked Room Man.
And it's funded! Two days, and it's hit $900,000. Let's see how well it goes when it comes to hitting the stretch goals.
there's already tons of fanart for this game on DA, and it hasn't been alive for a solid week yet.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.I think my ultimate thought on this is that Inafune's done some poor things in the past, ad this isn't some white-and-black "retrieving Mega Man from Capcom's tyranny" thing. However, it is a game that looks grea and that I want to play. So if he's making something great now, that's a good thing.
I have a message from another time...I can agree with this outlook.
"Shake the dust." - Anis MojganiEh, Capcom seems to pretty much have abandoned the Megaman series anyway. Good to see a spiritual successor.
Capcom did allow him to get into Smash bros, though...
I have a message from another time...Not to mention X in Project X Zone...
Now's it's Shulk Time!Pretty much all he gets into recently. :P. Megaman characters get into crossover games (Project X, the next Smash, etc). But the last main series (Any of them) game was what, Megaman 10?

,Some complain those aren't actual examples and it's just Capcom bumming the characters' popularity on games from other developers, sort of like what they're doing with Amaterasu and Viewtiful Joe. People are waiting for an actual Mega Man title akin to 9 and 10 to be made.

Not that I would object to Capcom releasing a new Megaman game (With or without Keiji), but they haven't and canceled all of the Megaman projects they had. And they've had more than enough time to announce at least plans.

The game actually looks inviting and nostalgic to PS 2's Megaman X games. I really will be looking forward to this on my gaming list.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceAlright, to the "Inafune is not the hero you think he is" posts, yeah, I probably should be pissed off at him for what he did to Dm C among others. But not only does he seem to be repentant here, he seems to be learning from his recent mistakes, and going back to what made him love game design and made a jaded soul like me love gaming. I cannot, in any way, stay mad at that. Not while Capcom STILL keeps running shit to the ground and Ninja Theory stays smug despite failing spectacularly. He's finally taking action now, and that's what matters.
... Now lets wait for this thread to shitstorm and for circular arguments to run amok. I dare you.
EDIT: because my dumbass confused Ninja Theory and Team Ninja. Doy.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.
Repentant?
Who do you think is working on Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z with him?
Hint: It rhymes with Breem Ginga
My name has nothing to do with Psychonauts. For all this slamming of Inafune you're doing, it would be nice to have actual proof.

Developed by Comcept, Spark Unlimited, and Team Ninja.
My name has nothing to do with Psychonauts.I mean on Inafune in general.
For instance, he didn't work on DmC: Devil May Cry.

It could be compared, but it seems to be working very well for them so I doubt any of the industry folk see it as a problem.
Note that a lot of complaints about Capcom is that they aren't making enough stagnant sequels, which is exactly what this Kickstarter hopes to address.
