The spiritual sucessor to Mega Man?
On whether or not the game will use sprites:
So it won't look like the concept art and will be something more akin to 7 and 8? I'd be fine with that.
3D can do a pretty good job of looking 2D nowadays (See the new Guilty Gear )
I can't stop listening to that music sample...
I have a message from another time...Heck. Yes.
Oh hey, that music sample has a remix further down the page.
Yeah, an ambient version.
I have a message from another time...I need this in my veins.
Well I'll support him if only because I hate how Capcom is run these days.
I can't justify $175
I can't justify $120 (though I'd try to if the plushie was on that tier)
I'm split between $99 and $60
Nnnnggg
I don't like this.
Mega Man wasn't Keiji Inafune's. He was a character that was designed by committee for Capcom, the company. It was beyond him; it was always beyond him.
say what you will about Kamiya and Bayonetta, but Bayonetta was still a distinct character from Dante. When Yuji Naka left Sonic Team, he didn't make a blatant expy of Sonic, either. Even Rodea the Sky Warrior, which had similar gameplay to Ni GHTS (and is apparently in development hell ANYWAY), wasn't a blatant recreation of the character he helped make for Sega.
Furthermore, Inafune was partly responsible for the mess that was Dm C and the new Bionic Commando, so I don't think he deserves the "creator integrity" card either, considering he helped jive over two franchises he had nothing to do with, And may I remind you, it was ALSO his idea to make the X series into a darker than edgier shooter.
So yeah, I don't like this. I don't really like Inafune. I'm no fan of Capcom right now as anyone else right now, but I can't support this. Not one bit.
My name has nothing to do with Psychonauts.I need this. And the Linux version being a stretch goal just makes it that much juicier. Totes gonna throw enough at it to get a digital copy of the game, maybe even enough to get the feelies at the next tier up. Past that, I simply cannot justify it, especially since I need to save some money for EU IV and CK II expansions.
Now, if he makes it to the console versions, that'll be flippin' sweet.

I'm not exactly a fan of Inafune, but how is this a bad thing?
It wasn't the X series that came out in the 90s; it was this. http://www.polygon.com/2013/4/9/4179628/mega-man-fps-maverick-hunter
The Protomen enhanced my life.
does that look like Mega Man? Does that feel in any way like Mega Man?
Mega Man, even in its darkest installments, was colorful and anime-esque. This was black, grey, and oppressive, and the characters looked like cookie cutter clones of space marines.
And why did he think this was a good idea? Because "westerners would gravitate to it".
That was the same logic he had when he helped hand Devil May Cry over to people who then proceeded to actually insult the original games.
My name has nothing to do with Psychonauts.Wow... I'm kind of speechless. I have no idea how this'll play out once the concept gets off the ground, so I'll be keeping an eye on it. I'm very amused that he kept his love of theme naming (Beck and Call. Heh.).
Also:
So instead of folding over after he left Capcom, he decides to bounce back and keep on trucking. Seeing people passionate about the industry like this, even if this project ends up not amounting to anything, makes me glad I'm still a gamer in this day and age.
Well, obviously some of Inafune's decisions have been... questionable. He was also responsible for most of the good material from Mega Man Zero as well as the part of the reason Dead Rising 2 was a success.
Besides, does this look like a westernized, dark and edgy piece?
On the topic of Mega Man, what happened to Akira Kitamura?
The Protomen enhanced my life.
MEGAMAN IS DEAD. HE'S NO LONGER HERE.
HOWEVER, IN THIS GAME, WITHIN MY HEART HE CONTINUES TO LIVE ON!
IF YOU'RE GONNA DEVELOP, DEVELOP TO THE HEAVENS. EVEN IF ITS MY OWN GRAVE IM DEVELOPING. I KEEP GOING. ONCE I'VE DEVELOPED MY WAY THROUGH, ITS MY VICTORY.
WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM? I AM BECK. NOT MY BIG BROTHER MEGAMAN. I'M ME. BECK THE MIGHTY NO. 9!
I had to.

I was tempted to make a Cirno joke, myself.
No, it doesn't look westernized or edgy, but that's not the point.
But people are throwing around the notion that he's a hero for this, that he's taking back what's rightfully his, and that he's standing up for creators and fighting the good fight.
I don't think he has the integrity for that kind of attitude anymore, and considering what he helped do with Dm C and Bionic Commando, he's not really much better than the rest of Capcom.
Mega Man was never solely his, and he clearly at one point didn't respect it enough to hold onto its themes, or try to preserve the themes of someone else's work when he was given the keys to them. And yet he's being treated as heroic for doing this, when it really feels like ripping off Mega Man and riding the coat-tails of past successes.
He created Mega Man, but he created him FOR Capcom. This isn't some Siegel and Schuster style lapse of justice.
My name has nothing to do with Psychonauts.People can change you know.
And how the fuck can you rip off something you created?

Well, I wouldn't say he's doing what he always did. He's probably exercising liberties with this that Capcom would not have let him exercise otherwise.
Either way, it looks great and there's been a drought of Mega Man games, lately.
