No.
Check out my fanfiction! For what it's worth, the reason I made this topic is because I had a dispute with the editor who moved Kick-Ass2 to the hyphenated title.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYou can do these with custom titles too - Kick-Ass shows up with a hyphen as well.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm fairly sure current wiki policy is to not use hyphens when creating pages, but to make a CamelCase name and add the hyphen via the custom titler. I'm pretty sure the majority of page titles which have hyphens in them predate the custom titler.
What about hyphens in broken up work example lists? Those would have titles like "TropesA-C".
Same. It doesn't matter as much, since you're not going to be linking directly to those pages very often, but it's still easier.
Bumping for more input on the matter. I see two people agreeing with me and one expressing a (conditional) disagreement.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI agree : Hyphens in wicks are bad juju. Custom title to get it.
Hyphens should be disallowed. We have the custom-titler ability; we should use it, instead of forcing users to learn which titles do or do not use hyphens. It's confusing, and there isn't any reason why hyphenated titles should be preferred.
I don't think my opinion means anything, but I think they are more trouble than they are worth and they should be banned. No reason why they can't be written as Wiki Words and CT'ed to include the full hyphenated glory.
Beyond the beaten path lies the absolute end. It matters not who you are... Death awaits you. — NyxI'm not in favor of hyphens either, for the record.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"on hyphenated UR Ls.
Well, this certainly looks like a consensus to me. I guess we can roll with this concerning Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2 and Kick-Ass, although I am going to wait a) until I have time for an extensive page move and b) in case of objections.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIf there is significant support, there could be a cleanup thread.
There is one already - "Hyphen Migration".
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOh. Found it.
I would have expected to be in Short Term, but I could understand that it is perpetual.
This is kind of an inquiry/policy proposal too.
As it is, hyphens are the only non-alphanumeric texts that the site URLs support. So while all other special characters can be done only by a Custom Title, pages with hyphenated titles end up as a mix of custom title and real hyphen titled ones.
Is it advisable to use custom titles over hyphens in these cases? I would say yes, since:
Any disagreements?
