This chapter wasn't bad, yeah.
Given that the more sedate chapters play into Akamatsu's strengths, its not surprising that they aren't as abysmal as...well, everything else happening. It never lasts more then a single chapter, so I'm not holding my breath.
So Touta totally ignores his mission to go and play around. But since universe revolves around him that of course brings him closer to solving the case anyway. Actual effort is for losers.
No wonder Karin went... somewhere. If anyone with half a brain was around they would notice how obviously suspicious Santa is.
With that said, that flashback was pretty dark. Almost feel bad for the poor schmuck, but others would rather focus on how they still think he's girlish. Blech.
I figured they were inviting him out and stuff specifically because they thought he was suspicious at first.
Nah, Touta doesn't seem to have a clue and Kuromaru only starts catching on towards the end.
Anyway, I felt it was actually a pretty good chapter. A nice little slice-of-life style bit that effectively starts the build-up for Santa's backstory. Also, as much of a pain in the ass as Touta can be, his whole "Let's be friends!" schtick is actually done rather well, what with it being the main focus of the chapter and Touta actually going out of his way to be a good friend. It's the kind of personality that you can see and buy being infectious to someone so distant.
I found online something about Santa's birthday being mentioned as well? Anyone else catch it?

Only at first. They made it clear that that's not the case.
I kinda want to play that Mundus Magicus MMO.
Sorry, but can you elaborate further on that? Not sure if I get what you mean exactly.
Dunno if that CGI work is snatched from somewhere else or made from scratch, but it's surprisingly impressive. Wonder if it plays anything like Sword Art Online....
I said, I thought at first that they were specifically approaching him in this chapter because they found him suspicious. Then halfway through it became clear that they weren't.
Ah, got it. Sorry, derping out a bit today. Carry on.
I want to see more of the disciplinary committee though. Knowing Akamatsu, the blonde girl is either called Yukihiro or Goodman.
Considering the Sasaki seen here is Makie's polar opposite, I wouldn't be shocked if the strict by-the-book disciplinarian happens to be a Saotome or Kakizaki.
Yes, Paru married an Evil Overlord, they conquered the Magic World together, and that girl would be the White Sheep of their family.
On the other hand, I'd prefer to avoid having too many new recuring characters… but yeah, I kind of like these three.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.Don't be silly, that'd imply any of the girls not named Evangeline ever did anything worth remembering them for without NEGI NEGI NEGI NEGI NEGI.
Stupid useless faceless fangirls.
Spoilers once again. So Santa is a revenent/wraith/thing, which is something. Everyone finally gets a clue, but apprently a string of murders happens while Touta is with Santa, so it seems there might actually be a different killer.
I do have to wonder though, are you technically considered immortal even though you're dead? I know spirits play with a different set of rules and all, but they're not exactly the first thing to spring to mind aside.

So he's dead... except he can do all the things living people can do, so it just amounts to never getting old and having superpowers. Man, Sayo should get a refund.
And look, the real killer is someone else... who uses the same methods of attack as Santa. What are the odds?
Real killer is Sayo. Calling it now.
That would kick *ss. Actually, Sayo showing up at all would be cool. Might be enough to forgive the stupid reason for santa's powers even.
Sayo dies and we keep the crankier Chisame expy. Yaaaaaay.
I hate to break it to you, but Sayo died a looong time ago.
Oh wow, the guy in the spread with all the confirmed team members is not the killer. SHOCK! WHAT A TWEEEEEEST!
Remember back when the gratuitous fanservice was somehow related to the chapter's contents, and when there was a wide variety of characters giving it? Yeah, so do I.
Yo, I heard you liked dead girls....
So obvious red herring was obvious. Honestly after last chapter I don't mind it as much as I would've, since having Santa be the villain would've made the befriending more....wanky, or something. I dunno, we don't need Touta getting wanked more than he already has, and I've actually liked how he was last chapter. And of course Santa's gonna get befriended. Last chapter made the Touta/Kuro/Santa OT3 too damn strong.
While Sayo doesn't pimp out the powerset Santa's got, she does have the benefit of at least being aware she's dead, while Santa seems to be kinda be stuck haunting the place. Plus she has shown she can possess people too, albeit only done once as a gag.
Actually kinda curious about the raws, if only to see if there are actually different kinds of dead stuff in play or it's just a lot of ghosts/spirits.

Maybe Sayo would be able to pull off some of Santa's tricks if she weren't shit at, and actively averse to, ghostly business.
I oddly enjoyed this chapter more than the usual. Must be the slice-of-life tone it had. Really, that felt a lot better than an action-filled chapter.
Well, clearly Santa can be seen and touched by everyone else, and we've seen him sleep and dream, so he's probably a different kind of dead than a ghost. Gotta wonder just what type, though.
