What You Are in the Dark: Yeah, agreed. IT's just... confusing. I haven't the foggiest why he just left it.

Hop on over to this page and add them.I can only see two interpretations of this: a) he noticed something wrong with the object that would make it worthless, or b) something else distracted him from it. Since neither would make it an example, I say this should be pulled.

I get it. He decided that he would rather have self-respect than be rich. It does rely on the text and he does leave so abruptly it can be confusing so finding a different image might be good.
Well, it doesn't explicitly say why he leaves it, but I think that just shows that he very well could take it and get away with it. He just doesn't, which shows some kind of principles at work.

Check out my fanfiction!I agree. K'UBIS.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Keep Until Better Image Suggested per
This image always worked for me. He can take the treasure, but doesn't even though there is no one there to see him or judge him (except the reader). I don't know why he leaves it, but it's a decision he made on his own accord, and a choice he made "in the dark."

But we don't know if the decision is due to any kind of morality.
There's also nothing that hints at an external reason, which to me suggests an internal reason. The only thing stopping him is himself.
Check out my fanfiction! But was that a moral internal reason? This doesn't not clearly demonstrate the trope at all.
The only reason he wouldn't take it besides moral reasons is that it's too heavy or he just doesn't feel like carrying it. That's not the impression I get from this.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I get the impression he's frustrated that something interrupted him.
The dialog blatantly talks about how he thinks he'd lose self-respect for taking it. Frankly it reads like he accidentally talked himself out of it. I mean, if you didn't have internal moral reasons why would you even mention self-respect in the first place?
I guess I agree though that the image provides no context for why it would be wrong to take the whatever-it-is. I vote to leave it unless something better comes up

Sure, it doesn't explain why it would be wrong but is that absolutely necessary? All that matters is that it establishes - at the very least in the character's mind - that taking it equals loss of respect but a gain in money.
Before this discussion goes any further, we really ought to see some suggestions. I'm not willing to support pulling without replacement.
Agree, it is weak because it's fuzzy (literally and metaphorically), but no way is it worse than nothing. If you want it gone, suggest a better image.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Weak, but a nod above nothing.

Yeah, I'd say it's a weak image, as his reasoning is kinda vague, but at the same time isn't isn't so non-illustrative that it needs to be pulled.
Reaction Image RepositoryI found a scan online, and added the two previous panels for context. Might be too wordy now, however.

Unfortunately, that's moving into "too much reading" territory, even for me. I'm still good with the 2-panel version.

I think panels 1, 3, and 4 would be great. The context in the first REALLY helps it, in my opinion.

Yeah, I kinda get it, but the image is unclear. There's no indication why he decided not take it. It just looks like something took his attention away from it.
