...shall I take the several-day silence as an implicit "go ahead"?

Looks good. Minor nitpicking on my part, but all the folders don't need to say "fan fiction".

Go ahead with the sandbox launch.

Anything else to do here?

The trope says "Compare" Alternate DVD Commentary, but I don't really see a difference. Are they the same thing?

That one seems to be commentary period, without having to be included in the material from the original work.

That doesn't make them distinct, both tropes can say that.

That makes MST a subtrope of the latter at best, and I have no idea what "both tropes can say that" means.

Both tropes do not have to be included in the material from the original work.

How do you justify subtrope? If one is a subtrope, they'd have to be distinct from the parent trope in some way.

That only says that MST3K popularized the latter medium. It says nothing about the definition.

That's why "Not so much a form of Fanfic as a style of commentary on another's Fanfic, usually tongue-in-cheek but sometimes quite vitriolic." was deleted.

You're being strangely obscure today. What am I missing?

Eh, maybe it's because I wasn't really doing anything today, either here or in RL.

Anyhow, Alternate DVD Commentary doesn't specify whether material from the original work is included. And the examples are really vague, too.

Some of the examples are audio tracks on the DVD, some of them are independent tracks designed to be listened to simultaneously, and some contain the Show Within a Show format.

MST has the same mix of examples, so there's no division on that.

Honestly, I don't think the distinction is as oblique as this discussion is making it seem. MST is for humorous commentary meant to make fun of or mock the work, and Alternate DVD Commentary, I'd imagine, is pretty much just taking a work and adding general commentary of your own to it. At least, that's what I'd think—reading the page description and examples list, it doesn't appear that that's what the maker of the page had in mind. Perhaps we should TRS that trope, since it does seem like it needs repurposing so it doesn't come off as extraneous as it does now. The "creator-made examples" list at the bottom there seems good, and it'd be a shame to lose that—maybe that's what we should turn it into.

If that's the case, then examples of the original creators doing an MST should be moved off of that page, and onto the Alternate DVD commentary page.

Which redefines this trope to "Satirical Commentary not contributed by one of the creators of a work."

I think that takes a crowner.

I figured that's what the definition already was. That's the impression the page gives me and is pretty much the preexisting definition for the term.

As defined, there's no limitation to commentaries by non-creators. That's why there are a few (very few) examples of that in MST.

This thread was clocked, but the moderator adding the clock posted the announcement in the thread tag not a forum post ... I've fixed that.
