[up]DC BATMAAAAAAN Cinematic Universe! [lol]

Yeah. I know it's referring more to the Batman films throughout history, but still.

"Extremely disappointing" is a vast Understatement. See what happened to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Fantastic Four (2015)? If Dawn of Justice is a failure then any plans for the DCEU end at Suicide Squad(and it's possible failure), because WB will not attempt another cinematic universe for another couple of years after that.

[up]I think the premise involving two of the most recognizable icons in fiction alone will put asses in the seats regardless of the films narrative quality.

I've said the same thing in the past, in fact it looks like you just quoted me.

Yeah I don't realistically see Dawn of Justice failing to make a profit, I just think that if it hypothetically did we'd have another Stillborn Franchise on our hands.

I expect Bv S to be So Okay, It's Average along the same lines as Man of Steel, if a slight improvement with a stronger focus on world-building and such. But I think Suicide Squad will be the movie to really win over the crowd and demonstrate that DC can make a darker superhero movie but still have fun with it.

Of course it might just be my biased distaste for The Dark Knight Returns.

What if Dawn bombs but Suicide Squad makes for a runaway success?

Warner Bros won't care about reviews as long as the movies make money lots of money, which they will.

But if Suicide Squad succeeds more than B v S than Warner will probably produce a lot more black humor content alongside the regular Justice League line.

We might get movies for the Outsiders or the Doom Patrol but you can bet that the Justice League movies will keep moving forward.

Does that mean that they have no reason to improve beyond average? Because plenty of people will see Bv S even if it's just okay. It would have to be a combination of the worst Superman and Batman films to not do well.

That's the reality of nearly all big movies. They aren't looking to put out something better, they're looking to make a sequel of comparable quality (or at least superficially entertaining) that will make people come back for it.

Dawn of Justice is pretty much guaranteed to make money, and Justice League Part One is locked in. The big gambles are Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, but even if they fail the Batman and Superman-featured stories will probably move forward.

The official children's book tie-in has an original story

The villain of the children's book tie-in is Doctor Aesop.

The book has a completely different story from the movie but contains images from the movie.

[up]I wonder who the intended demographic for these kinds of things is supposed to be. The movie will most likely be at least PG 13 or something, right? I'm not super-familiar with American age ratings, but I don't expect to see a lot of seven-year-olds in the cinemas.

Is it canon to the DCEU or not? I'm guessing it would take place after the events of the movie.

[up]I have no idea it is an official tie-in.

[up][up]It is ages 7 to 10.

But since the movie is PG-13 they can have people that age in the theater; PG-13 just means that children under the age of 13 need to have a parent with them to see the movie.

I went to see Two Towers in the theater when it came out and there were people that brought children under 5 to see the movie. That is a PG-13 movie.

People took their kids to see The Dark Knight. And yes, they did make the movie into kids' books. Not just with screenshots from the movie, either, but with actual, original art. Look it up, it's kind of adorable.

[up][up]Hm, I'm not sure if the Joker looks less, or more scary on those book covers.

And yes, age ratings are often more or less ignored over here as well. I remember going to watch the last Harry Potter movie, and ending up next to a mother who loudly tried to explain the plot to her son who couldn't keep up with the subtitles.

[up]But how many of them will grow up to become strawman anarchists?

Parents are idiots. The ratings are there for a reason Sure, if you know that your child is advanced for its age, it is certainly okay to take them a little bit earlier (meaning a year or so earlier).
