Hi all. I'm not even sure whether I should start this with a description of the game or an apology to anyone who was involved with that last one, if they're still around. That said, if you were involved in this RP in any way, I offer my humblest apologies.

Now that that's done, I'm interested in starting a Fire Emblem roleplay based on the Tellius series, if anyone is interested in joining, and promise to actually make time for this one. This RP will take place roughly 100 years after Radiant Dawn, and will center around the characters' role in a new conflict featuring shadowy organizations and world leaders with ulterior motives.

Sign ups are as follows:

  • Name: (Should be obvious, just try to make sure it fits in with the setting)

  • Race: (Beorc (nation), Laguz (tribe), or Branded (nation))

  • Class: (You may choose from any first-tier class on this list, along with a new class I'm adding in, the Spiritualist Mage Knight. )

  • Weapon/spell class/level: (Whatever type of weapon or spell class your class uses. Level automatically starts at D, save for Mage Knights, who may choose one school of magic and one type of weapon, both starting at E.)

  • Level: 1 (This can't be changed, but you will need to keep track of you level later on)

  • Appearance:

  • Background/Personality: (As you are starting out as a level one character, try not to make it too outlandish. Having some combat experience is fine, but it should be fairly minimal)

  • Items:

  • Stats: (HP starts at 10, everything else starts at 5. You get 14 points to distribute amongst them.)

HP:

Strength:

Speed:

Defense:

Magic:

Skill:

Resistance:

To simplify things, I've decided not to include Luck.

That should be all for now, I look forward to seeing if this is still a roleplay this forum is interested in.

...this one has Dice again, doesn't it?

[up][up][up]&[up][up] Great!

[up] Yes, while I intend for it to be somewhat free-form, I want combat to involve some form of skill/strategy and to be completely fair for everyone. Therefore, there will be dice included for the purpose of rolling to hit and rolling for criticals. I'd like to have you along, but if you're adamantly anti-dice you probably won't like this game.

Also, would you guys like me to post any relevant backstory now or just inform you of what your characters are likely to know as it comes up?

[up] The second one, but I want to know what this is actually about. As in what's a fire emblem?

Alright. Fire Emblem is a Heroic Fantasy series of games that, as you'd expect, follow a group of heroes whose mission is usually to overthrow some type of evil ruler who is leading a war campaign against the continent's other countries. The Tellius series, which this RP will be based on, originally followed Ike, who led a group of mercenaries against King Ashnard. The second game focused on a larger conflict between the Beorc (humans) and Laguz (humanoid beings who can spend half their time transformed as animals), which earned them the ire of the goddess Ashera who attempted to destroy all life on the planet before, again, being overthrown by Ike and his group of champions.

You can read a much better description of the series here, which I'd strongly recommend doing. Also, if you're wondering what a fire emblem is in universe, it changes depending on the series. In Tellius, the Fire Emblem is the medallion which the goddess's counterpart, Yune, was trapped for 800 years before being released and helping the heroes.

On the class list is Hawk (and similar things.) like a class name after hawks, or is it the actual animal, being given it's own class. (also I would assume if they're actual animals they aren't playable.

The Hawk class belongs to the Hawk tribe of laguz, who have the ability to (temporarily) fight as giant hawks.

I may make one, depending on what the group needs. I usually play a healer if nobody else wants to, because those are a pretty necessary part of any Fire Emblem party.

  • Name: Reiz
  • Race: Beorc (Crimea)
  • Class: Wind Mage
  • Spell Class Level: D
  • Level: 1
  • Appearance: A young mage with brown hair, brown eyes and no facial hair. He wears a green cloak with a golden hem over a brown shirt and white pants.
  • Background/Personality: Reiz was born to a family of merchants who taught him the value of gold at an early age. He learned how to use magic fairly recently when his town was attacked by bandits. He (along with a few other brave people) managed to fend off the bandits and save the town. Reiz is the kind of person that thinks about money first. If he puts something before money that thing must be extremely important to him. He tends not to get along with people very often.
  • Items: Wind tome, Elwind tome, Vulnerary.
  • Stats:
    • HP: 16
    • Strength: 5
    • Speed: 7
    • Defense: 6
    • Magic: 7
    • Skill: 6
    • Resistance: 6

[up][up] That's encouraging to hear! However, I don't want you to feel obligated to join, only do so if you think you'll be able to enjoy this rp.

[up] You're allowed to have two characters, but for now you may only use one of them in combat at a time. Also, your character is accepted.

  • Name: Matthew Ailburne
  • Race: Beorc (Daein)
  • Class: Myrmidon
  • Weapon/spell class/level: Sword (D)
  • Level: 1
  • Appearance: Matthew is a very handsome young man of nineteen years, though in an effeminate sort of way, being tall and wiry, having blond hair and blue-green eyes. His blond hair is long at the back, down to his shoulder level. He appears to always have a smile on his face, and walks with an ease. He wears black armor, and a black trench coat, though it should be noted his armor is light and tailored to his fighting style. Under it, he wears a cotton shirt and leather pants. He seems to have a scar going from the start of his chest to the middle of his abdomen, and it seems to bleed if he returns to a certain place.

  • Background/Personality: Matthew comes from a noble family in Daein who were known for their bizarre practices, especially in regards to succession. In order for a new family patriarch to be selected, he has to defeat his father in combat to prove he has exceeded his parent and teacher in the use of arms. Despite a very socially darwinist upbringing and being taught to view Laguz as his natural enemy, Matthew came out of his family as an exceedingly nice young man with a strong sense of justice. Apparently, something happened that made him decide that the way things were going "would not work". It is connected to how he got his scar. He is, however, a little too nice and a little too willing to sacrifice of himself, almost to an unhealthy level. He has joined a company calling themselves The Order of the Blue Rose at the start of the story, at the behest of his parents. They mainly go around dealing with bandits and other "trouble people", though their real loyalties and practices are vastly darker than what we see at first. While they help humans and Laguz, their leader is planning something. Matthew seems to be a very proficient swordsman, though he has little battlefield experience. His family, though, regards him as being "strong, but too kindhearted." He seems to be somewhat prudish and unawares of people's affections.

  • Items: Potions / Healing Items, a locket with his parents, himself, and another little boy in it.

  • Stats:
    • HP: 10
    • Strength: 10
    • Speed: 10
    • Defense: 5
    • Magic: 5
    • Skill: 9
    • Resistance: 5

Random Question: Would it be possible to Dualwield?

randomtropeloser Since: Jan, 2001
#16: Jun 18th 2013 at 11:17:51 PM

He's going to be one serious glass cannon with those stats, but he's accepted. Since enchanted weapons that let you attack twice as many times as normal exist in-game, I don't see why dual wielding couldn't be house ruled in. I'll probably have to make weapons that are available to dual wield unavailable at the beginning though.

He is intended to be a bit of a Glass Cannon, especially early on.

Oh, good. I'm sure he'll be an excellent addition to any party he ends up in.

Since this thread could use a bump and I still haven't gone very far into detail about the backstory, it seems like now would be the best time to talk about it. Like I said last time, this is okay to mostly tl;dr, but you should probably be up to speed on what's going on in your character's respective country. (In reality, this will mainly be an updated version of what the background was last time)

In the century following the Great War, Tellius made great strides towards peace, and left many of the problems and prejudices of the past behind. However, the war's end did not come without its own set of problems. The fact that every nation initially needed to severely reduce the size of any military force it had left, due to the world's relative lack of conflict, had its own effect of each nation, as did what was essentially an overhaul of the world's dominant religion.

  • Crimea, despite being known as the most peaceful of the Beorc nations, nevertheless had a much larger army before the war than after. While many of its former soldiers were able to make a living farming or doing manual labor, there were some who were unwilling or unable. Some Crimeans still had deeply held grudges against Daein, Bengion, and the laguz nations for helping start a war that nearly ended the world for what they considered petty reasons, and resented the government that expected them to live peacefully with those nations. Others couldn't afford the land they would need to become successful farmers and couldn't find work within cities.

Many of these people became brigands, either out of resentment or necessity, and bandits plagued Crimea's countryside worse than they had before the war. The problem persists to this day, and isn't helped by the fact that citizens of Crimea's cities are mostly unwilling to have their taxes raised in order to pay soldiers to protect more remote towns and villages. Most rural communities in Crimea are forced to raise and train their own local militias in the absence of professional soldiers.

  • The war's end spelled the beginning of a confusing time for Begnion. The ranking members of Begnion's senate had mostly been killed or imprisoned for war crimes after the end of the war, and anti-noble sentiment became mainstream in Begnion. Empress Sanaki, her military having been devastated by the Great War, did what she could to prevent uprisings against her and the remaining high-born families. In time, government officials of Begnion learned to take care of the citizens under them for their own sake, and worked to restore order and help people who had lost their homes and livelihoods after the war. This originally seemed like a blessing to Sanaki, whose forces at the time lacked the organization and resources to repair most of the damage done by the war.

While tensions between commoners and nobles eased, however, Sanaki found her position threatened as it had been before and during the war. Not all of the nobles were necessarily evil, but many were power hungry, and most thought they could rule the nation better than her. Sanaki was wary of allowing the senate to reform, having seen the treachery it was capable of firsthand, and as favor for the nobility steadily grew, Sanaki fought harder and harder against the rebirth of the senate.

Accusations of Sanaki being a tyrant for forcibly putting down political opposition became common, and the Empress was forced to entertain a peace talk with the nobles who wished to elect a new senate. In the end, to prevent Begnion from starting another great war, Sanaki allowed the regions of Bengion to each elect a new senator on the condition that any senator could invade, occupy, and control the territory of another senator and use their resources for their own ends. She and the newly formed senate agreed upon a treaty making it so, provided that no senator force their own people to join their private military and that each senator be merciful and humane while occupying another's province.

It was also agreed, at Empress Sanaki's insistence, that it be made illegal for more than thre provinces to be joined as allies at once and for more than four senators to meet at one time without the current Empress present. The only exception to these rules was Persis, which the Empress claimed for herself. To this day, the treaty has seen few changes and has presumably been followed by the senate. This has not prevented the senate's reestablishment from being an extremely unpopular decision with the rest of the world.

  • Daein, having finally been set free from Ashnard's misrule and the occupation by Begnion, seemed as though it was ready for a time of peace. For a time this was true. The newly crowned Queen Micaiah and her husband Sothe reigned in peace for two decades after the war, but not without opposition. Daein's anti-laguz sentiment wasn't helped by the horrific stories that soldiers brought back about fighting transformed laguz in the war, nor was their disdain for Crimea after hearing how little they did to help either side.

When news reached Daein that the Bengion senate, the organization primarily responsible for the conflict in the first place, had elected new members, their distrust and hatred for the nation that had recently occupied them for years was renewed. As such, many Daeinites felt justified and supporting the isolationist and prejudiced policies of the nation's past, as opposed to Micaiah's efforts to make peace with the other nations of Tellius. After twenty years of mutual bad feelings, the traditionalists of Daein united behind one Sir Aedan, the grandson of the famed knight Sir Bryce, whom they felt embodied everything favorable about old Daein. Thus, they waged a 70 year long civil war which only recently came to a head with the final defeat of Daein's traditionalists, now known as the Reconstructionist Party.

  • With the defeat of the Goddess, the world's religious community also found itself in a much different place. With the end of the great war, many people gave up on religion altogether, although three post-war religious movements have seen significant growth over the years. One is the Order of Ashera, in some ways a revival of the old church, the followers of this order believe that Ashera still exists, and is still the one true goddess. Some specifically oppose the warriors who fought against her in the Great War, while others believe that she was "killed" by the evil in the hearts of mankind, and that she needed to by physically destroyed in order to be reborn as the goddes she once was. There are some fanatics among this group who believe that the war never ended, and that they are still being called to fight against any and all who oppose their goddess.

  • The other main religious movement in the world is known as the Temple of Yune, a movement based mostly around the need for humanity to grow and learn to take care of itself. Many members of this order believe in being grateful to Yune for her help in the conflict against her sister, and that hers is the true will of the original goddess, Ashunera. Followers of Yune typically believe in following Yune's teachings rather than worshipping her, as one of the Temple's main teachings is that humanity shouldn't need gods. As with the order of Ashera, followers of Yune are typically peaceful, but there are some fanatics who believe that those who follow Ashera are evil for supporting a blashphemous tyrant.

  • A third and less prominent religious organization has come to be known as the Children of Ashunera. This organization believes that with their effort, their mother-goddess Ashunera will one day be able to return to the world, bringing peace and unity with her. This religious movement is generally smaller and more scattered than the other two, though a few towns and cities do contain temples of the goddess. Thanks to its small size, this movemnt has thankfully few fanatics, though there are some who are bitter at followers of Ashera and Yune, and consider them and their ilk to be responsible for their goddess splitting in the first place.

  • Finally, after the Disciples of Order and been driven from the planet, there were some who saw no reason to believe in the church of the Goddess or any of its offshoots at all, and turned instead to seeking contact with the elusive spirits that so little was known about. They had heard the stories of people known as spirit charmers, individuals who made pacts with beings from the next world in order to gain magical abilities. This practice was punished by the Bengion church and discouraged elsewhere, as making pacts with spirits was seen as a heretical practice which prevented people from reaching the Goddess in the next life. Now that the church no longer had the authority or power to prevent people from freely contacting spirits and anti-goddess sentiment was not uncommon, contacting and "charming" spirits for power and knowledge became less and less of a rarity. This has given rise to a new type of warrior, a subset of spirit charmers who call themselves Mage Knights, warriors who have expertise with weapons and have made deals with spirits to gain mastery over magic as well.

While human knowledge of the spirit world is by no means comprehensive, there are three different "levels" of spirits that are known to exist, those being the recently deceased, ancestral spirits, and primordial spirits. The lowest beings in the hierarchy are, as one would expect, the youngest and least powerful. They don't possess enough control over the essence that powers magic to make spirit pacts with, but can describe the next life to spirit charmers in more human terms than the other two. These beings are also often known as "ghosts," humans who have died but have some form of unfinished business, or some desire causing them to linger in the world of the living. Not all of them are like this, but spirits of this nature are the ones most likely to take any sort of interest in a living spirit charmer.

Ancestral spirits are centuries old beorc and laguz spirits. These beings are less likely to pay attention to the world of mortals than the recently dead, but particularly impressive or devoted individuals sometimes manage to win their favor. They may also pay attention to people who champion a cause that they did in life. As the name implies, knowledge of their existence has even given rise to a new form of ancestor worship. Unlike the recently dead, they are old and powerful enough to form spirit pacts with humans.

The third and final group of spirits, known as Primordials, are beings who have existed since near or during the beginning of the world. Contact with them by mortals is extremely rare and little is known about them, as they have little interest in the world of beorc and laguz. Most of what is known about them was gained by communicating with the Ancestral spirits who have seen them, who report that they don't act or think in anything resembling a human manner. Some have hypothesized that Ashunera herself was merely a particularly powerful spirit.

So, that's about that long and short of what I've come up with so far. What do you think?

Well, erm, if we moved it to roleplayerguild, then most of the people on here would need to go through a sign up process and well, some of us might not be familiar with it. And, to be honest, switching RP sites seems bothersome to me.

And...okay, I personally have no idea what a roleplayerguild.com is supposed to be.
