As we know, TV Tropes doesn't have a notability standard, and at any rate it isn't objectively definable what is or is not "notable". As a result, this page is nothing but an index of commercial campaigns, or in several cases, just a slogan without noting what product it is for. Basically, it's a list of youtube videos of commercials that some troper thought were cool.

Clearly this is not a trope, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Should we move it to Just for Fun, or turn it into an index of those commercial campaigns that we have pages for? Aside from that, we may want to remove the word 'notable' from the name because it's pretty meaningless. Or do we need a page like this in the first place, considering the rest of the internet already does a good job of linking to videos that some person thinks are cool?

I think it's fine as-is, personally. As you mentioned, it's basically an index for commercials, which I think is valuable. We could drop the "Notable" in the title but I just... don't see the point.

This looks more like a genre or somesuch to me. Said genre being commercial campaigns.

Don't we have a different namespace for that?

A namespace for genres? No.

A namespace for ads? Yes. Advertising/

If a campaign's "notable" enough for its company to have an advertising page, give it one. We can list its tropes there. If we don't list the campaign's tropes, we shouldn't list it at all.

[up][up]The issue I have with that is that there are lot of notable commercials/campaigns that aren't... large enough to have their own pages. I like this page as an index of them.

Then put them on a page with an associated trope.

We have some genre pages structured like tropes and some like indexes.

I don't think it hurts the wiki by having a list of ad campaigns. If anything it would encourage people to add tropes about them. And they're notable because they're on this page.

Well, this has 100 inbounds, so I would not argue that having the in-jokey "Notable" stuck before its name is hurting this genre page much.

Rename to Commercial Campaigns?

I agree with a rename. Are there other propositions?

Why have it at all? Maybe it's just post-work brainfade, but I don't see how listing ad campaigns, none of which seem to mention any tropes used in them, is relevant to the wiki's mission.

Because ads are works.

How about Advertising Campaigns? Advertising is the term we use more.

Advertising is a redirect to Advertising Tropes.

I support Advertising Campaigns, and I think it can be considered a genre page that lists works and a brief description. It doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to works that we have trope pages for, but having it may encourage people to make trope pages for individual examples.
