Well, now is Pride Month. Congratulations. Anyway, Disney is now a meme because it is always trying to be "woke" in Pride Month, but Disney is a hypocrite company. There are memes about that XD.

Yes, yes, Cruz is a "hypocrite" for saying that it's BS to lock a man who boffs a man up for life, or to hang him for a second offense, because Cruz doesn't want certain books in school libraries, and because he hasn't said anything about getting the needle for raping a child in Florida (note, some people have tried to correlate the new Florida law making sexual battery a capital crime with the one making crossdressing - they say "drag shows," but the language is overbroad - in the presence of minors an offense - to be clear, I'm actually against both these policies myself, the latter I pretty much just said why, the former on the general principle, as in Kennedy v. Louisiana, that the needle ought to be reserved for crimes resulting in death - and honestly, I think the rope, blade, and bullet are all better options even then - but the needle is reserved for "sexual battery," which does not include drag).

I don't know who is that Cruz. I was talking about Disney (that was censoring LGBT scenes in its own movies, at the same time it was pretending to support LGBT community in Twitter).

Microsoft - had an employee cry and moan about MS working with the US Army, ignoring that Micro$oft does business with the UAE and other countries around the world that have sketchy human rights records.

Some of the biggest companies that celebrate pride month also turn around and do business with countries where the LGBT+ population is actively persecuted. They also give to politicians of all stripes so they can get tax loopholes and other goodies.

Hispanic heritage month? Black History month? [INSERT ETHIC GROUP HERE] month/week/day? Companies big and small will have web ads and such but won't make any donations to scholarship funds or recruit from the college with large minority populations.

Companies celebrating anything is a bad metric, for most of them it's just PR.

Can confirm.

Each pride month, I see it blow up all over the internet, but when I take a look at my surroundings, nothing changes. Even those same stores run by those companies celebrating pride month in the west. Why? It's because I live in Saudi Arabia, and it's pretty well known that standards here are radically different to say the least. They care about it only to where it is deemed acceptable by the government.

So in my opinion, crossdressing and drag are not at all the same thing. As I think I said before, one of my favorite children's books as a child involved a transgender princess. "He's made of money, so he'll never get broke." All that is fine, rated G. But last I checked Princess Ozma never went by something like "Salina EsTitties." That's for men and women (or whatever else), not boys and girls. As I've said before, I don't want it to be for the needle, but what's finable is finable.

I guess I've got more of a libertarian bent than a conservative one - the stage magicians who were once perhaps the icons of libertarianism I'm told gave it up due to a certain virus (I'm going to be a bit rude here and say that a woman I would kill for in a nanosecond has refused the jab because when she got the flu shot she got airlifted to Boston, and my parents nonetheless consider her a plague rat, even though they used to love her.)

(I don't know if it makes a difference, but let's just say she's got a bit more melanin than I have, although her ancestors did come here free - that's a big thing in this part of the country, basically all the Black people, a lot of them don't even like that word, came here free.) And also she "knows" a particular former President did a particular thing. For what it's worth, she knows I don't subscribe to this particular bit of "knowledge."

...I think I've said this before, I think I first met her - bar the time she was on my swingset - on a very, very, very specific Tuesday when I was for our homeschool group illustrating the distances between the planets.

Okay, I'll try do do as best I can.

I'm homeschooled, meaning of course that I was taught two and two were five, at least according to public schoolers.

I first met my oldest friend doing an exercise on the canal (that is to say, the widest surface level canal on Earth, but of course as a resident I get to tunnel under). That sort of exercise we used to do on Tuesdays. That particular exercise was a very specific Tuesday... a very, very, very specific Tuesday. I ate meat then; I had some with another homeschool family. Jewish, not kosher. It was the first day I remember meeting one of my closest friends, although she tells me she was on my swingset fifteen years or so before.

...again, on that day, I dropped pebbles along the canal to illustrate the distances between the planets... on that very, very, very specific Tuesday in September of 2001.

Probably the take-home is that it's the first day I remember meeting my oldest friend, it's the day I used pebbles to illustrate the distances between the planets, and perhaps most importantly, it was the eleventh of September, 2001.

(EDIT: This probably isn't healthy, but I'm welling up a bit.)

I've heard lots of Republicans and conservatives (most likely the McCain/Romney types) left the GOP out of disgust towards Donald Trump and changed their registration to Independent or even Democrat. Is this true?

I do remember seeing a news article about that on Republican voters changing affiliations out of disgust for the January 6th insurrection. Think they tended to either ditch politics altogether, or become independent rather than Democratic however.

[up][up]I "left" the GOP in 2016 ... though since you don't have to register with a party in my state, the departure is kind of notional. Voted Dem for president in '16 and '20, but I hope Trump doesn't get re-nominated so that I can simply vote for nobody instead.

Sure, I'll still go to the polls and vote for various nonpartisan ballot measures & the like ... but with any luck, I'm done with both parties for the foreseeable future.

[up] I been done with both parties since 2016. The whole Trump thing really turned me off from politics. Never really trusted Trump back then. Keeping in mind that we didn't know what we already know now, I didn't trust Trump because he had something of a history of flip-flopping between Republican and Democratic views. Liked he was choosing one side or another in a way to stay relevant before he settled on Republican to run for President. And I was shocked to see him make it as far as he did. I will say this for him. He is charismatic. And he used that to win and how he managed to get all these people on his side. I felt like a minority in not backing him. And when I made my views clear, I got accused of voting for Hillary. Like if you don't like one, you automatically like the other. Just seeing how people act over all this pretty much killed my interest in politics. And I am a bit morbidly curious to see how and if Trump can find his way to become the new candidate for 2024. I hope it doesn't happen, and I wouldn't think it would happen realistically. But things have a way to surprise you, as we all well know.

I became independent before Trump just because I live in an open primary state, so I don't see a point in declaring a party affiliation unless you plan to have a career in politics.

At this point, the political climate has gotten too toxic to the point that I just stay out of it completely now. It's just not worth the investment, imo. Especially since everyone is at each others' throats, now.

I suppose politics, particularly online, has always been vitriolic, but back then, I could at least presume people were just being passive aggressive, and thus I figured it was still in good faith. It wasn't till 2016 that the disdain folks have for their political opponents became clear.

Now, I just mostly ignore politics.

Welp.

Up until the mid to late 2010s, I identified myself as a conservative (and a devout Christian at that) even though people around me called me a hardcore liberal.

Unfortunately, those people seemed to be correct and, well, you can tell from my profile what my affiliation is now.

For me, the final nail to the coffin of me turning into a liberal (or "lefty", even "damn dirty commie", some might say) AND an atheist was...the COVID-19 pandemic and how conservatives responded to the crisis.

Yeah. There's that.
