Are you seriously stooping that low?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Enough, both of you.
I know you're talking to me, but who the hell is the other person?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Are you?
Seriously, guys, cut it out.
And no, Sci-Fi, I was not attempting to boss you around. I was suggesting that you go write your story because the current situation was heating up just a bit.
You seem to have taken a lot of things personally that I don't think were meant personally, though. Criticisms of slashers and the genre as a whole were not intended to be criticisms of you and your story/writing ability.
Next time, though, put a post up in Writer's Block asking how to make one side a credible threat to the other. Disguising your quest for feedback as a generic "who would win" thread only frustrates people when you make it clear that you're not really interested in discussion (by doing things like introducing Death into the equation).
No, because I'm not actually mocking people just because of their opinions.
No, they actually were thinly veiled, backhanded mockeries of my story and writing ability.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."I have no clue about how good you are at writing. I do question your judgement in choosing *what* to write. And I make no veiling about it: I think you should abandon the entire idea, as its intrinsically dubious from the basic premise. Again, just because you want to write something, doesn't mean its a good idea.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comWould asking for guidance in Writer's Block help? And besides, you can't tell me what to do.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."No one is mocking your ability to write because we have no idea how do you write (although your setup doesn't inspire trust to start with. Good writing can save a bad setup, though). You're assuming things.
And yes, you are playing the victim card when you jump to say people is 'telling you what to do' and 'mocking you'. For the former, I doubt enough people here cares enough to tell you what to do or not to do, and for the latter, if you can't tell people criticizing your setup and your strawman arguments from mocking you personally, well, that's your problem. But by now it's clear you don't want criticism, you want approval.
I want constructive criticism and advice, not backhanded insults and not-so-subtle mocking.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Then this discussion doesn't belong in this forum. It belongs in Writer's Block.
Go there and state clearly what you're trying to do. You may or may not get a better result — I suspect that depends entirely on you.

Okay, this is not funny. Who did this?
My story for the scenario vanished completely until I logged in. Is it the computer, or is it one of you guys?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Only the mods can mess with the forums, so no, it wasn't any of us. Apparently the forums themselves are glitching today, if comments in other topics are to be believed.
I got some help from the Writer's Block forum, and this piece of advice caught my eye:
What do you guys think? I know a heavy amount of you guys will shun it, but I just want to know. Here is the thread just so you guys can see it.

"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."FYI, you're not getting flak because your story's not realistic enough. You're getting flak because you asked "who would win?" and didn't like the answer.
But yes, that quote is more or less correct. If you're a good enough writer that you can convey that kind of tense atmosphere no one will care if your protagonists are idiots disguised as people.
Also, I believe there's a forum rule against spreading drama from one thread to another.
edited 8th Jun '13 5:33:58 PM by CorrTerek
No, I didn't like that it was incredibly unfair. And people are berating me for "no realism", don't lie about that.
And how was I supposed to know the rule? Besides, I am NOT spreading DRAMA-I am just telling you guys what advice I got. Is that too much to understand?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."I'm not going to argue with you about this. I'll just drop a link to the rules, so you know what to do and what not to do.
Okay, but I'm still not importing any drama. I'm just telling you guys what advice I got.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Note that whatever advice you might get for writing, in terms of things like tone and style and description, are kind of irrelevant to this thread as its constructed, which is about the actual scenario. Ways to create a consistent characterization and generate a given mood are utterly tangential to the issue of whether one side of a given force can threaten the other without authorial fiat.
Honestly, my own big advice? Drop the slashers, and instead choose some other type of horror movie monster. You can still use the same basic premise of "monsters attack an isolated army base", and things like werewolves or vampires or, hell, Yautja, are a lot more readily definable and less dependent on plot fiat. That will let you design the scenario parameters a *lot* more solidly.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comToo late for that. Should have spoken up earlier if you want a werewolf vs army scenario.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."He's trying to help you. That arrogant and holier-than-thou tone right after you demand for help when people bothers to-goes out of their way to give it to you isn't helping your case.
Don't act as if we're dying to see your project. You're certainly free to do what you want with it, but if you're going to answer to all criticism that way when it doesn't mesh with what you already wanted, not only there's no point on asking to begin with, but why should people keep bothering on helping you when you're going to slap it across their faces?
I want help so as to improve the story. He said to outright scrap it. There is a clear difference there, and I do not understand how you do not see it. It is more than obvious.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Because the story can't really be improved, I think is the point everyone's trying to make. It's just not a good basis for a story, independent of your skill as a writer.
Do note that you're getting the exact same criticisms in your thread in Writer's Block that you did here. Different people, too.
edited 9th Jun '13 10:10:19 AM by CorrTerek
Did you see the thread? The criticisms are not the same. How on earth did you think they were?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."
Okay everyone, calm down before things escalate and destroy the thread, this isn't WWIII.
