I'm pretty sure genre entries number into a thousand at least. And that's just an educated guess. I would be hard-pressed to give an exact number... even ignoring shot-on-video crap and homegrown ones like, say, Hauntedween.
The slasher has a loose definition anyway, enough so that even if you were able to hand out what you considered an exact number, some probably wouldn't agree. It took me a long time to decide if I thought Child's Play was a slasher or not. And what of movies like Dressed to Kill or some 90s thrillers? They have people getting slashed by a lunatic, but that doesn't necessarily a slasher make.
Cool, we have a quarter of those in here.

Asking for a total for any kind of genre is like asking for the number of clouds in the sky. Better grab a pen and paper, and good luck counting.

Now, this is kind of ignoring the question, but presuming that the number of slasher films numbers into the thousands, who would win if every slasher joined together and fought against the U.S. Army?

Now, I thought I was a pretty alright slasher nerd, until I saw this page here
. I now realize how little of a slasher fan I can call myself, and that there are even more slashers beyond the 1974-1995 period.
Now, this is where you guys come in:just how many slasher films are there in total? This includes(as the list has shown) proto slashers and slasher hybrids. However, it does not include giallos and quasi slashers. If someone can give a reasonable answer, it would be most appreciated.
