The problem with an anime example is that modern Japanese people dress up in kimonos all the time, so the only visual indicator of her temporal mismatch, her clothes, doesn't even apply.
I've only ever seen kimonos on modern people when it a celebration or they're very traditional. The current works fine and it's far from Just A Face And A Caption since something is happening in it. The Star Trek one works too but I wouldn't say it's better.
So how is the casual troper supposed to know that neither of those apply in this case? Honestly, it looks equally good as an "hey, let's stop by the store on the way to the bon dance, and— ohmigod, is that the new flatscreen? I want it!!!"
It is too bad they're not wearing Starfleet uniforms, but I think that's a better image anyway.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Add my vote for the Star Trek pic. It's clearly a better example at the least, imo. Use it unless an even better pic is found.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMfor Star Trek. I've seen plenty of cosplayers in Tokyo so wearing a kimono doesn't imply to me that a character is from the past.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Star Trek is acceptable.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanTalking into the mouse is a common "old people can't use computers" gag, and it's even weaker on the temporal than the current.
I agree that in both the current and Star Trek images, you have to recognize the characters in order to understand what's going on (Scotty isn't out-of-touch with technology, he just assumes the computer responds to voice commands like in the 24th century.)
What about something along the lines of, say, A Someone In King Arthurs Court?

- Astronaut: cover or [1]◊ or [2]◊ or [3]◊

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.The Entire Party of Chrono Trigger◊ which includes a cavegirl and a robot.
Eh ... no.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up. Any of those could work.
That one is worse than the current. I don't see a fish, and I don't see temporal water.
I like the Star Trek one, but it's not clear enough.

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Either 11.2 or 11.3 are good IMO. I lean a bit toward 11.3 because it's uncluttered while still obviously illustrating the trope (man in spacesuit standing amongst knights in armor just screams "when the heck am I?" to me).
And the page quote could be as suggested in 15, or modified slightly: "It's like this, Your Majesty, I forgot to take the left turn at Deimos"
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMI like 15.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd prefer 11.3 but 15 works as well. I'm not going to complain if it's used instead.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMSome of them don't even need resizing first, we can probably crowner away if we need to.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.I prefer 15.
He looks more confused there than in 11.3.
Then again, there's two people looking at him in 11.3.

I vote 15.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is good, although the shot looks kinda... yellow. I'm pretty sure the scene in question wasn't that yellowed out.
Moon◊The only thing against 15 is it seems a bit too "busy" to me. There's less going on in 11.3 which makes what is going on more obvious. But like I already said, I'm not going to complain if 15 is used.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DM+1 for 15...I actually prefer the entire cover to the crop.
Blame Google for that one. It was the clearest shot I could find.
15 looks pretty good. I do question how you're suppose to know that the Astronaut went back in time, instead of merely going to a Renaissance fair though.
I don't think this one really illustrates the trope too well. So, she's gawking at a flat screen. The image doesn't tell me that this girl is from the past. For all I know, she could be from an isolated comunity. Also counts as JAFAAC.
