In 2012, the Mayan calendar successfully predicted the end of the world—if you treated the breaking down of the divide between the paranormal and natural worlds as the end of the previous separate worlds. There was a large amount of unrest, as the 'normal' people reacted poorly to finding out that almost one thousandth of the population was, in some way, inhuman, with all the attendant abilities that came with this.

Possibly the most upset was the sporting community, which had to start revising rule after rule and record after record to accommodate for the new anti-discrimination laws brokered behind the scenes by the more influential members of both worlds. At least the sports became a lot more exciting to watch.

By the time five years had passed, the world was back to normal, with the only difference being just another group of people for idiots to express bigotry towards. It was, however, expensive for many new students to be accommodated in the normal education system due to differing physical needs and, as such, it was felt that new schools would have to be constructed in favour of endless reconstruction work on older buildings.

Myouren Gakuen is one of the schools set up for this purpose, an all-girl highschool*

out in the countryside, relatively lacking in flat space and tending to be build between or halfway up hills, though most of the buildings are in a valley (and at least one of the dorms is only accessible through flying). Now, for the first time, it's accepting students!

SETTING AND PLOT DETAILS

This is a world with lots and lots of monstrous entities. So many that the masquerade eventually crumbled under its own weight and people got sick of hiding, leading to this sort of situation. Now, the plot arcs are going to be relatively normal things—sports days, competitions, whatever—with the caveat that no-one participating is human, so things might get a bit... extreme.

Individual plot arcs are encouraged.

Also, everyone's in the same class, 1-B.

EDIT: As some people seem to have missed it, the school is in Japan.

RULES

  • If we don't get on or you have an inability to get on with somebody already in the thread, don't try and join. I reserve the right to reject people for these reasons.
  • Powers can be anything. If, however, they are abused (mind control, turning someone to stone), then your character will inevitably get in trouble with the law, the damage undone (having an angel as school nurse is handy), and the character will be retired from the RP.
  • Please post at least once a week. Note the 'at least'. More is always preferable.
  • No characters more than half human This is a school for those who, due to physical bizarreness (or chronic inability to go in sunlight and eat a normal diet, for instance) are extremely hard to fit into a normal educational system.

Interest!

Need to work out a character, though, eh-heh.

  • Name: Kumashiro Sakura
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Undifferentiated Monster
  • Appearance: Not shown: the dozens of tentacles of various sizes and strengths that constitute the lower half of her body.
  • Personality: Polite and friendly, if a bit too laid back a lot of the time—Sakura is known for showing up to things later than can reasonably be justified, then blowing it off as unimportant, even if this was, say, for a test. There's exactly one thing that can rile her up, and that's insinuating that she does anything perverse, or is in some other way a threat to society. Understandable, really.
  • Abilities: As a consequence of having so many limbs to control, Sakura is actually amazingly good at multitasking, and something of an exceptional cook. She's also amazingly good at lifting things: not only are her tentacles incredibly strong, they're also very stretchy. On the downside, this makes her arms pretty weak, as they're never used for much more than writing and computers.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Student Council President. Often comes up to bother clubs with food. Dislikes the way the tennis club keeps trying to get her attention.
  • Backstory: One of those for whom the destruction of the masquerade meant an actual chance to interact with normal society for more than incredibly brief periods of time, Sakura has enjoyed things from the start, despite the unrest. It meant she got to go outside more, even though she's had to protect herself a few times.
What is mysterious is her parentage—rather than having any clear lineage, her family seems to be, when you go back five or six generations, a mix of absolutely everything. The result is that she has absolutely no unusual characteristics in common with her parents or younger sisters.

Interested. Roleplaying a female might get interesting. I'm thinking of either a banshee or a lich.

Banshees are considerably more human than I was thinking, honestly. Creepy as hell due to wailing when someone's going to die, but not particularly incapable of fitting into normal schools (put gloves on, bring their own cutlery—or, hell, this is Japan, use chopsticks) and they get around the iron problem.

Vetoing the lich idea; a 16 or 17 year old that is also a massively powerful spellcaster has no place in the setting (neither do species changes. Vampirism is genetic).

So... try for something else?

... also, please don't treat 'female' as a huge personality trait, because that really annoys me. >.<

This RP is for actual different species. Like... giants, and demons in some cases and stuff like that. Not undead humans.

So, uh, yeah. >.> <.<

  • Name: Ishikawajima Kyouko
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Giant
  • Appearance: She's a big girl.
  • Personality: Shy and reserved, and rather quiet. This hasn't been helped by her being a rather noticable size, leading her to be somewhat withdrawn. She usually tries to avoid people, and thus spends a lot of her time alone in her room (which of course had to be custom built to accomodate here). Those who get to know her will realise one thing that stands out about her aside from her shyness (and, of course, her size): she is very nerdy; she spends most of her time watching anime (she'd read manga, but the volumes are far too small for her to properly read).
  • Abilities: Kyouko stands several times larger than regular humans, and her strength and durability is proportionately greater to match. However, she's not very atheletic and would actually be rather weak were it not for her size.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Kyouko is a lifelong member of the Go Home Club. She would be a member of the Anime Appreciation Society, but she's far too shy to even approach them for membership. Besides, it would severely damage the club's budget if they had to hire out a cinema whenever they wanted to hold a meeting.
  • Backstory: For rather obvious reasons, Kyouko's family always had trouble keeping up the masquerade. In fact, due to an accident whilst the family was on holiday when she was younger Kyouko contributed somewhat to its fall, as people tended to notice that Mount Rushmore was now missing a face. The media attention this garnered helped foster the already rather shy giantess's reclusive nature, and by the time she grew to adolescence, well... She was already a borderline hikkikomori.

  • Name: Sasaki Akane
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Succubus
  • Appearance: "No, I'm not sure why I'm laying in front of cutlery in a picture frame, but it's oddly comfortable."
  • Personality: Akane is a friendly individual who likes being helpful. To some, this comes as a bit of a surprise. After all, her nature as a succubus would make some people think that she'd be more focused on being, well... seductive. However, one of the reasons she supplies for why she's not like that is her body would make this rather awkward to all but a certain audience. She also feels she simply doesn't need to, not interested in gathering power at all. She tried dressing in the kind of clothing a succubus is normally thought of as wearing and got too cold, anyway. Akane does have a perverse streak that she normally internalizes, but it's liable to come to the surface if she sees anything that might trigger it. As such, Akane flees the scene before doing anything awkward. She is also slightly sarcastic at times.
  • Abilities: Akane is faster and stronger than a human being, and capable of healing herself. However, due to her neglect of what a succubus does to gain more power, she lacks more advanced succubus abilities. Akane is an excellent cook.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Akane is a member of the Cooking Club, which she enjoys.
  • Backstory: Akane under the masquerade was often uncomfortable. Restraining her wings and tail under disguises, really, kind of sucked in her opinion. She generally went about being friendly and close to others, and avoiding potentially perverse situations. After it fell apart, she... kept up what she did, really. Except minus restraining her wings and tail. And also avoiding people too interested in the "succubus" thing. After all, she's really not into gaining more power as a succubus or anything like that. Not that she hates anyone for being curious, but she just doesn't want it to lead to anything... unwarranted.

Couple of R Ps I'm in seem dead, so I think I have room for a new one. Definitely interested in playing an angel if permissible, definitely with wings that can't be concealed. And who is fairly socially awkward - I'm liking this pic right now.

[up][up] Maybe the slime or something small like the Faes type? I believe those would be fun to RP as.

As for me, I wanted to be something unabashedly evil for once, but I guess it wouldn't work in the scope of this RP.

@Succubus: accepted.

Slimes are good.

If they're an angel, that basically makes them a walking medical chest, though since they're still young it'll be underdeveloped. But hey, resistance to supernaturally imposed negative statuses and healing. Handy.

Name: Kanae Kasumi

Age: 15

Sex: Female

Species: Angel

Appearance: Glowing eyes, black wings and all. Though she will normally wear a school uniform or something similar, presumably.

Personality: Kasumi comes off as odd and somewhat detached. It's not uncommon for her to sound or look grumpy or annoyed, though no matter the emotion she tends to be somewhat melodramatic. Being quite blunt doesn't help the angel win people over either. She lacks subtlety when dealing with others because she was raised to believe that people will just be truthful about things. This also makes Kasumi pretty gullible; when someone tells her something about being 'normal', she takes it as gospel truth. In all truth she wants to be helpful and actually make friends, but is rather heavy-handed about things and lacks self-confidence. As a defense she acts in a off-putting way, though she's been known not to take 'no' for an answer if she thinks someone needs her help.

Abilities: Seeing as how she has wings Kasumi can fly, though these wings are impossible to conceal. As an angel she is resistant to supernatural and common maladies, though by no means completely immune. She has healing abilities that are impressive but nowhere near full fledged at her age. She does speak Latin fairly well though.

Extracurricular Activities: At this juncture Kasumi is herself a member of the Go Home club. Her plan is to join whatever club she is first invited to. This she believes will ensure that she has someone she can count on to show her the ropes. Her hobbies include studying ancient mythology and much to her parents' chagrin, graphic novels and animation.

Backstory: Unlike many other paranormal beings Kasumi never even tried to keep up a masquerade. As she saw no reason or way to hide it, she simply would tell anyone asked in no uncertain terms, "I am an angel." For a while she attempted to go to a normal school but had a hard time fitting in doorways and conventional uniforms. More cunning girls easily tricked her into doing things for them a number of times, ending in embarrassment for Kasumi. Until the new schools were ready, she was home schooled by similarly angelic parents. This did nothing to prepare her for interaction with other species; the presence of a dorm for flying creatures was a boon at least.

(Okay, kind of rough but there's a basic idea of what I was thinking. Though a cyclops-girl could be fun too.)

So, is the age definite?

Because I had an idea for a Fae character. Been around for awhile, but spent all that time in the Amazon Rainforest, with her only human contact being the tribes-people of that area.

So sticking her in a highschool for rapid education could make sense.

But if not, other characters.
