Dragonball Fanfiction

Yup, ya got that right.

Basically, the only way a villain can survive in DBZ is if they can either regenerate or avoid being hit altogether, because there are several instakill moves, up to and including the Instant Kamehameha.

Or if they're more durable than the last guy.

Power, speed and durability are linked in the DBZ-verse, since it's all based on ki and stuffs, so if you've got the durability to tank an Instant Kamehameha, you probably got the power and speed to render the point moot in the first place.

So... I just had a stupid idea for a crossover. Ready?

Here it goes.

Louise from Zero No Tsukaima tries the summoning ritual...

... and gets Cell out of it.

The only thing that saves Louise is Cell choosing to humor her before killing everyone and using IT to get back to Earth and finish his fight with Gohan... which leads to him boasting Louise could never control him with her magic, and her challenging him to see if he could... so he accepts the binding ritual because he wants to prove that he can No-Sell it. Only, it turns out that he can't. He can No-Sell the mind control parts of it that would make him blindly loyal to Louise and make him fall in love with her, but he can't No-Sell the changes to his base programming that it makes, such as now recognizing Louise instead of Dr. Gero as his 'Master' (and this is assuming Dr. Gero could somehow program it into a biological android's brain to obey him, but just roll with it).

Which means that while he can utterly hate, disagree with and disrespect her, he can't flat out disobey her, and has to follow if not the spirit then at least the letter of her orders. Which makes Louise able to control the most powerful being in the world bar none, who can easily outmatch anything the ZNT world can throw at him.

Cue Louise becoming a Villain Protagonist, using Cell to take over the world, and the Supreme Kai getting involved...

That could be interesting. It would probably work better as a one-shot than anything else.

It'd be crack, since you can never have any real tension in a story in which the protagonist has access to Cell. Either that, or it's a horror story in which the protagonist (probably Guiche) is trying to survive in a world with a despotic tyrant who wields an invincible, unstoppable monster as a hammer to crush all opposition.

Louise, someone who's never known respect, would most likely quickly become power mad when given such an insanely powerful familiar.

Also, Cell grumbling about stupid Saiyan pride and Stupid Freeza Arrogance.

Speaking of Freeza arrogance, according to the pre-movie release comic, the reason Freeza is going to be a threat again in F is for Resurrection (or whatever the title of the new Dragonball Z movie is going to be) is that he decided to actually train after being resurrected. Apparently, he'd never trained before. Ever.

He estimates that in four months, he'll be strong enough to trounce Goku, despite knowing that Goku killed Majin Buu, and who Majin Buu is.

He also had his body in the afterlife.

Revival of F doesn't make much sense.

Honestly, that's the problem with writing any sort of DBZ material. It's hard to come up with a legitimate threat without it sounding contrived. Or if it takes place in early Z. Everyone is just so ridiculously powerful, they can deal with almost ANYTHING.

That's why I try to avoid any conflicts that can be resolved by how hard you can punch.

But with the new movie stuff, I feel like we're going to get a LOT of "What if Cell trained? What if Majin Buu trained?"

Cell didn't need to train. He'd been programmed to fight.

Nevertheless, I'd assume Cell would be significantly stronger if he trained instead of going "Hey everyone. Cell Games in ten days. Blowing up the planet if I win. ...Good luck."

Edit: That's another thing. Freeza clearly knew how to fight. If he never trained, how did he learn? Experience? Because I don't think you get much experience fighting when you crush everyone in one blow, no matter how many times you do it.

I think there's a difference between 'learning how to fight' and 'rigorous training'. It's like the difference between what Goku does and...say...what Gohan does. Freeza was already the most powerful being in the universe (besides a seemingly extinct magical creature and the God of Destruction). What's the point of getting stronger if you don't NEED to?

Freeza actually did train. At one point he makes a comment about his father getting dirt on him during training. Problem is, he probably never got any real benefit and never really applied himself, since he was so much stronger than anyone else out there.

I'm a little surprised there isn't a horde of Xenoverse-based fics here.

There are a few, the last time I checked. But while Xenoverse has official Original Characters, I don't think the story is complex enough to come up with any original fanfics. It's just "go to this place, fix the timeline, leave".

The Dragonball section is filled with people writing about not!Gohan going to highschool. And by that, I mean that their self insert wears a Gohan skin to go to high school, because rarely, if ever, does Gohan actually act like, you know, Gohan in those fics, usually because the author is desperate to turn him into a 'badass'.

And they start by killing the Saiyaman Schtick or making him into a serious superhero who doesn't do silly poses and attempts to do Mook Horror Show.

I don't necessarily have a problem with Gohan being a more serious superhero.

I need to rewatch the Great Saiyaman arc, but seriously, what the hell was Gohan thinking?

Oh, my god. This. So much.

It's actually because of that that I'm writing a Gohan-focused fic right now. Where he actually acts like canon. And I'm barely putting any high school scenes into it because, honestly, high school is BORING. Especially when you have a universe like Dragon Ball.

Gohan is a dork and it shows, a lot. What he was thinking was that the poses were legitimately cool and that the outfit was legitimately awesome.

Admittedly, the outfit itself isn't that bad. It's the helmet that's the problem. The helmet and the cape. Really, if he just went for a domino mask and Super Saiyan to mask his hair, he could both be disguised and avoid looking silly.

Probably why they had him ditch the helmet and cape at the start of the Buu Saga.

There were two times when I thought the Great Saiyaman was cool: in one of the games where he used his poses as a finishing move, and in Fusion Reborn.

And mainly because of this quote:

(x3) Well, yeah... I guess. I had some ideas, mainly altering the Distortions in a way that's less Timey-Wimey Ball and more Butterfly of Doom. Then I couldn't reconcile how strong the Future Warrior would be, nor did I want to write training montages with Cell and Captain Ginyu.

Ooh, so the Saiyans repel Frieza together. Do you have a name for this snippet - perhaps, Attack on Frieza, aw haw haw hah... though, King Vegeta blasted Paragus for trying to save Broly. I don't really see Bardock having any special relationship with him, or using words like "my friend" or Vegeta heeding his advice.

Since you mentioned Gine, I guess Bardock's characterization here is based off of his appearance in Dragonball Minus, so nevermind. -grumble- "Family Man Bardock" instead of "Dashing Rogue Bardock"? You disgust me!

This is the opening snippet of a fic I had in mind for a few years. Basically, the only main change I made to the canon (before the story started, at least) was to have Bardock, rather than be a random grunt, as a guy who had served alongside Vegeta, served him faithfully, been the closest thing Vegeta had to a friend. Just to make him more likely to listen to Bardock.

And back when I originally had the idea, Goku's mom didn't exist yet, so the character I had in mind was a lot closer to Goku's mom in Dragonball Multiverse. But, she exists, so that's what I had to work with.

You know, you don't actually need to make Bardock someone well known to the King for him to believe Bardock's story.

Because the King already knows Freeza's going to destroy the planet sooner or later. he was pretty much aware Freeza was just looking for a chance to wipe them out in the special, that's why he went to confront Freeza and got killed personally.
