...err, not to be a killjoy, but those look like escape pods being ejected.

[up] You don't generally launch escape pods when the ship is still shooting...

[up] You might since the ship might be performing a Heroic Sacrifice and covering their escape. Still, that's a pretty good pic if you ask me. [tup]

I'd jokingly say someone who doesn't know 40k would assume these aren't escape pods due to the big skull emblazoned on them - and someone familiar enough with 40k to know they'd likely put skulls on an escape pods coz thye put skulls on everything should recognize drop pods on sight anyway :-P

[up][up][up] 'While you're still shooting' is the best time to launch escape pods. You probably won't get the chance later.

That said, the specific first thing that comes to mind to me is the opening scene of A New Hope. Long, skinny ship suspended in the black void, firing at something offscreen and launching pods? All check. I'd miss the two tiny skull-and-crossbones entirely.

[up]No, no. While you're escaping, unloading all you've got is the best choice. It's not like you've got anything to save until you really need it.

I like #28.

Not to be a Star Wars nerd but the ship in a New Hope doesn't fire escape pods until it's been tractor beamed, boarded & captured :-P There's no pods while it's firing.

[up][up][up] Doesn't matter to my memory; it's all part of the same scene. I wouldn't have been surprised to learn it was from a Star Wars comic.

[up][up][up][up] ...? Are you saying something different from what I was...?

That's a great image; up, potholed, and tagged. Because it's so long and narrow, I'm completely fine with no caption.
