Personality-Driven Crossover RPG Interest Check

Go To

Instead of writing up the sign up first, I decided to gauge interest, see if any fish bite.

The idea for this is one I had in my head for a bit. A crossover dealing with characters interacting with each other. Not going into massive and epic fights, but just talking and having fun in a mainly Slice of Life setting. Maybe have a few relationships going.

You may notice I said "personality-driven" in the title. That's because for the crossover, I might write in that powers are disabled, and any weapons that have magic or otherwise special qualities are dulled to normality. The only thing not disabled are skills, like how good someone is with their sword fighting, or how fluent in a different language they are. This isn't to make some balance, as you might think, but rather to be used as foil and bring out their personality. Who they are without the powers.

Now, the possible setting I have in mind is the Titanic. I think that's all the information on this RPG so far. Again, not sure how much interest this will garner, and hence why just an interest check.

I'm interested, but how about a different setting?

Like an apartment complex, or an university or something like that? The Titanic isn't that good of an idea...

[up] That could work. Apartment might actually work better. Johnny could be the Landlord. [lol]

Interest. Would there be any limit for characters we could choose? For example, could we have creatures like Slenderman, Digimon etc. so long as they had a notable personality, or would they all be humans?

Yeah. So long as they have personality, they'd work. Johnny's... well... Johnny, so that might justify why he allows people who don't look like humans yet have human-level intelligence in his apartment.

Would there be any kind of an overarching plot? I'm all for personality-driven interactions, but I do like something to move the story along as well.

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.

[up] Not really sure. Current mindset says that it'd be probably like Seinfeld, where most of the story comes from regular everyday problems, though it had thought of an idea for a plot in the form of a suicide in the apartment that looked too off to consider as such, and thus they have to solve it and see if it was murder or really suicide. Okay, maybe not that everyday. tongue. Setting it on the Titanic would have caused more of a plot to go through.

Interested, now we've moved away from the doomed ship. tongue

Already have two ideas, in fact (one is only good for this sort of thing, and the other... snaps stuff in two, so yeah).

Alright, I may need to work out the setting for this. I've confirmed that it's taking place in an apartment, but I'm not sure how everyone's gonna be in the same area. Possible ideas are the obvious "someone powerful plucked them from their home worlds and put them in a hotel" which, to me, is an idea I've done to death in my other RPGs and a less common one and one I might be rooting for: The setting takes place in a world where the characters had normal lives, hence why I was sort of considering the de-power.

The second case, as it is, would lead to not having the same characters (because without their experiences and abilities, they're completely different people). Maybe something that combines the two scenarios?

Honestly, as long as these characters don't have reasons to kill one another I think there's not much of an issue... Also there's not much point in playing characters if their lives were completely different. They're different people, then.

Maybe a multiversal hotel kind of thing?

I suppose you're right on that regard. Okay, so my second idea is axing the whole "lives are normal" thing, though everyone exists in the same world.

My suggestion? Everyone wakes up with two sets of memories: one where they've been living 'normal lives' in this apartment complex, and another (which feels more real) which meshes with the world they're taken from (and which their personality reflects). People get to keep their non-supernatural skills, and if the whole 'personality driven' thing doesn't pan out, we always have a mystery to solve. [lol]

[up] Yeah... I thought that too... Maybe it might play differently, maybe it might die. It's an experiment I wanted to try out.

[up][up] That actually might work. I'm starting to crack an idea in my head surrounding how they got there, and it might actually be the multiversal hotel thing. Though I need to continually confront this idea and make sure it falls with my original concept, especially since the idea I have now is starting to seep back into my usual "you must fight a bunch of villains" kind of RPG, and the concept is to veer behind that.
