It prolly doesn’t help Gabi Marley soldier aside, she is a very unpleasant person.

Like sure the Warriors regard her as a friend and close companion, but at the same they note that it’s hard dealing with her...... well everything.

Even Eren wasn’t this abrasive back then.

Kids being kids, especially ones engaged in Cults and cult-like behavior, also don't help.

But having enough time that someone tries to reason with her because they understand its not black and white, is always going to make it more frustrating andale people angrier.

And then there’s the most stricking distinction. Sure Eren was a Knight Templar hellbent on total extermination but it was towards what he assumed was nothing more than mindless monsters.

Gabi wants the same towards sentient human beings. It’s not exactly a 1:1 comparison there.

It kind of is from her point of view as Marley indoctrinated her in this idea that all bad Eldians are monsters and devils that she can easily self-justify to herself the loss of life as they were just monsters.

Its how I would see young Eren would act in a far more complicated situation then literal man eating monsters trying to kill them. Hell Eren did react similarly when he saved Mikasa from those human traffickers.

Also throwing a child out of an airship is called "child-parachuting-without-a-paracute" not child murder. 2 completely different things.

Let’s petition to make that distinction legal. [lol]

Just wait and see. The way you guys are handling things don't really change the fact that, in her mind, Gabi still sees herself in the right. Wait and see, there is a reason we got her and Falco.

Eren murdered two men in cold blood when they threatened him and Mikasa and threatened the Warrior trio with the most agonizing and painful deaths he can imagine.

Let's not beat around the bush, Eren has never really been all that mentally stable even before the fall of Wall Maria.

I don’t think “in cold blood” is an accurate description for what happened with the abductors when they were kids. Walking into a house and finding two adults dead on the ground and a girl in very clear and immediate danger from the killers is probably a very strong trigger for fight-or-flight response.

While most would probably go into flight mode, the real deeper concern of Eren’s fight response (after the conflict was resolved) was the sheer blood rage of it.

That's kind of what I meant; he was a bit too willing to murder those two men, justified or not. That's just...not right for a child.

You make yourself an intentional enemy of Eren or others and he WILL fuck you up and make rivers of blood with what little blood ones meatbag contains.

And Willy thinks starting a fight with the whole world against him was a bright idea...

Reiner should have really put big neon signs in the air about how rhey dont want to fuck with Eren.

Eren and Gabi remind me of Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones where he starts screaming about how he killed all the men, the women and children. And then starts ranting about how they were animals so he slaughtered them like animals.

Eren and Gabi would've been Sith Lords in Star Wars.

Eren put himself in that situation, though. His father ordered him to go wait at the foot of the mountain or something, but instead he purposefully went looking for them with the intent to kill. I'm not going to make any moral arguments about that because they were murderers planning to sell someone into sex slavery and it's very possible if Eren didn't do what he did they might have gotten away with Mikasa. But characterizing his actions as a "fight-or-flight" response is misleading because he wasn't thrust into the situation unknowingly or without understanding of what was going on or what he was doing.

Anyway, I understand why people would hate Gabi for this, but I'd prefer it when people just admit the feelings are what they are. No rationalizing or "Eren was different because...!" excuses that just don't hold up.

Eren might have been different when it comes to details, but the general gist of it applies to both him and Gabi: traumatized kid with distrubing violent undertones swears vengeance on the faction/nation/race that destroyed their hometown and killed their friends/family.

I can see why Gabi resonates so negatively with people though; she's the very worst Marleyan brainwashing has to offer - especially when you put her next to Falco who, despite consuming the same kool-aid (and even having a reason to go an extra mile, that being not wanting Gabi to inherit Armored Titan), is about the nicest kid you can find around these parts. Whenever Eren would start going off, either Mikasa or Armin would be able to defuse him - but Falco's not quite on that level yet.

Falco doesn't have a extra buddy to help him defuse her. Zofia and Udo could of been that but.....well.....

She didnt get what Falco was saying even when they and the guards were there seeing him blatantly comfess, nor why Udos comments on how Marley sends back soldiers they traumatized with their warmongering to spread Eldian hate doesnt mean destroying Paradis will prove they're "Good Eldians" before everything fell apart either. So chances anyone can get her to see reason is unlikely.

The best shock therapy for her would probably be a trip in immersion into Paradis, just like for Reiner.

…Though Reiner became a mental wreck as a result, so effects may vary. tongue

Me sitting on my spoilery thoughts, and hoping the anime doesn't continue to leave out important stuff.

I'm really wondering if they're going to slot in Gabi and Reiner's conversation later, since it informs a lot about their motivations involving the Inheritance. It further builds on Reiner's Death Seeker tendencies and reasons for pressuring Falco to save Gabi, as well as showing some of the Hidden Depths concerning Gabi having more complicated feelings about becoming a Warrior. Namely, for both of them its tied up in the fact they're cousins. As with the Royal family and Eren inheriting from his father, blood relations have a stronger Inheritance than non-relations. Reiner sees Falco becoming his successor as not only protecting Gabi, but also a further means to "erase" himself. So his wishes are in complete opposition to Gabi's wishes, which she confesses to him in the cut scene. She admits she knows he's carrying some secret burden, and won't share it with anyone. So Gabi believes that by inheriting his Titan, she'll finally understand his pain and be able to share that burden with him. She'll take on his memories and his burden, and together they can save their people. It's a whole martyr complex combined with a kid basically dealing with the impending death of a loved one.

...Huh. no response from this episode, huh. Oh well, I will start. This was another great episode of AOT. I love the character interactions and the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers are pretty interesting. Onyankopon became a character I really like just from his response to Sasha's unintentionally insensitive question. Yelena being a kinda cult-follower of Zeke is both interesting and slightly disturbing. I also love that I can understand the differing arguments between Eren and Armin. Armin wanting a more peaceful solution and Eren being realistic in that said option is unattainable. Man, I love this show

A lot of contrasting feelings in this episode. The still idealistic Eren of the flashback and the jaded Eren of the present, Hange’s forced attempts to keep a joking mood despite feeling completely powerless in this situation, Mikasa’s joy at meeting the nation of her ancestors before realizing they actually care little about her as a person, everyone being ready to sacrifice themselves to inherit Eren’s burden but now losing their trust in him… and Historia first calmly accepting to inherit the Beast Titan before going the "fuck you all" route.

…And yet my favorite scene in the episode is that gag of Conny and Sasha calling each other idiots while the camera slowly zooms in on each of their faces. [lol]

[up] It’s already rare enough to have a realistic black guy in a manga/anime. I wish he had a slightly bigger role, but oh well.

A bit of a Contrived Coincidence that she just so happens to meet with the one person who admired the woman she killed, but eh, if it can beat some sense into her quicker.
