I actually just bought this off steam (along with it's predecessor) last week...waiting still i have some space to download them
I quit playing when I got to the last part of the neurotoxin mission. I just could not get there quickly enough.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelIf it turns out that the mod actually does get a decent following and does more than just throwing you into the world with other players, then yeah, I'll be glad to join it.
I do so love this game, even though I haven't played it in a while.
A friend and I jumped into the open beta for the multiplayer mod. I wasn't too impressed. They've changed a fair bit of the game and made pretty much everything locked behind some form of PVP or another. Want different guns? Go kill people. Want to look like someone other than Rico? Go kill people. Want different vehicles? Go kill people...or find them somewhere on the world map.
There are no more computer-controlled enemies, and as far as I can tell there are no missions. The mod does allow you to create "factions", and you can apparently designate a faction base which other players can earn points (used to buy things, of course) for assaulting. Not really sure how that part works though.
In short, they seem to be trying to create a Just Cause MMO.
Well, that sounds like a shame. I was hoping for co-op.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelSince I made this post, there was one public beta test 2 weeks ago that added in the autoaim from singleplayer and some bug fixes that make shooting people more responsive (ie, you'll actually be able to hurt dudes with your weapons this time), and there's another one coming this month, July 20 to July 22 in US Eastern Time. Use this page to figure out the time it'll start in your time zone.
...and the public beta test weekend has been underway for a day or so. Anyone still playing?
I haven't played it in months... maybe almost a whole year, even. The multiplayer looks cool and all but it's still buggy as heck, so I'll wait it out a bit longer.
BTW, are there any plans to allow players to tackle the campaign together, co-op style?
I played the multiplayer and loved it but only because I thought the mass chaos was actually very fitting for Just Cause. I will always have memories of fighting on the Mile High Club. Its just so awesome with people jumping off and getting underneath it and the jets and airplanes constantly shooting everything.
From what I gathered I don't think they have plans for a Co-Op campaign. Though they seem to be focused apparently on getting rid of all the bugs that arise from just having multiple people right now so that may change.

"Love, love will tear us apart, again."Another public beta test for the MP mod has gone underway since at least yesterday and will last for the whole weekend. I'm going in right now. Highlights include a new Faction Wars game mode and various bug fixes and improvements.

I grabbed Just Cause 2 during the Steam Sale but whenever I try to run it I get a "fatal Direct X error".
The final beta test for JC 2 MP is starting today and will last until next week. Also, the mod's coming to Steam and you can redeem your keys for it in this site.
Noted. Will check this out tonight!
So, has anyone given the multiplayer a try yet?
I only ask because I've only recently continued my single-player game and noticed that the multiplayer was up and running.
I've used it on and off a few times since it came to Steam. It's still a pretty interesting experience, if one that's still fairly broken in some ways (can't hit a damn thing even when unloading an entire clip into a guy's face, but the other guy can hit me just fine, etc.).
Anyone still playing this? It seems nice, and there's even a fanmade multiplayer mod being made for it! https://www.jc-mp.com/
Right now, the Public Beta's going on until April 28. So maybe we should all join in and blow shit up or something.
