'Asia' is not one country, and historically speaking China and Japan have not gotten along well. Anyone else here know a lot about history and could help out here?

(Strikes heroic pose) I do!

Geographically speaking, I'd say the best strategy would to have the dome be over the northern half of the East Hemisphere; that way we've got Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and a sizable chunk of Africa all under the "no-magic" zone.

China and Japan have a long-standing rivalry, which I believe has lasted longer than fifteen hundred years. The Industrial Revolution (beginning in the late 1700s in Great Britain) was the spark of both nation's technological growth. That, and the fact that the great powers of the Western World (France, Russia, Germany, the United States, and ESPECIALLY Great Britain) were basically carving up little slices of the world for themselves, including China and Japan. If any of you are big Bioshock fans, Bioshock Infinite mentions the Boxer Rebellion; a massive uprising in China to overthrow their Western colonizers.

The era when the dome was constructed was roughly around the time that the Western Roman Empire was falling apart, the barbaric tribes ran rampant through most of Europe and Asia, and new religions were on the rise while the old Greco-Roman Gods were on the decline. Augustine of Hippo was writing his Confessions around the year 500 C.E. and Mahamoud would be born about a century later. Whether you knew it or not Kkutwar, you've picked a massive changing point in human history as the foundation of this dome. That gives you an incredible amount of influence on how you want history to be rewritten. Should the Visagoths fail in their conquest of Rome? Should Christianity remain isolationist and leave Western Europe to the influence of a rising Islamic Empire? Should Genghis Kahn discover the sectrets of the golems and use their power to conquer all the known world? The sky's the limit my friend, but you've got to make some serious decisions about what kind of world you want to create.

(faints delicately) My hero!

A predominantly Muslim population could be interesting to RP, though it'd require some research to figure out how it would've changed and shaped history the way Christianity did...

Though if the dome was established back then, then almost certainly the story of the Golem of Prague, if it exists, would be different, so the walking clay humanoids wouldn't be called golems, probably.

I'm afraid my knowledge on Islam is remarkably limited as well, although I do know that the general belief is that it is a strongly voluntarist religion (Allah made the world the way it is because he wanted to, and he can change his mind whenever he wants because he's the boss), which means there were very few theologians to speak of. Christianity was heavily influenced by Greek philosophers (specifically Plato and Aristotle), and that's one of the reasons why there are so many different opinions out there about it.

There's also the first post to consider; Kkutwar used the "A.D." dating system to construct the timeline. "A.D." stand for "Anno Domini" or "the year of our Lord," which is a Christian dating system. Don't get me wrong, I think that was the right thing to do for this audience, but the Islamic calendar is about 600 or so years behind the Christian one. What's 2013 for us is 1434 for them, and that's just destined to become confusing. surprised

While changing the dominance of the worlds' religions may be cool and creative, I'm not sure we know enough to pull it off; at least I certainly don't. evil grin

Currently? Only two I intend to do. Given how much I need to account for, this'll take a while. Though, given (not so) magical creatures existed there's further corruption of history I could make. Elf Holocaust, whatever started that?

Why not? As long as its not an insanely overpowered thing sounds perfectly acceptable so far.

Alright, here goes! I was split between the Demon King Ravana and The Devourer, but since Bakasura appeared in Smite,

Character Name: Bakasura, the Devourer

Race: Asura

Abilities: Bakasura is incredibly agile, capable of crawling on walls as if they were veritcal surfaces, it also has an extremely long, sharp tongue, It's most notable ability it's mouth, it can open it's mouth wide enough to stomach a normal hand whole, it's stomach acid can melt metal with ease in the space of a few moments.

Inventory: Butcher's knives, cleavers

Bio: An ageless creature from India, Bakasura forced the ruler of Ekachakra to send him a caravan of goods a day, each day, Bakasura would not only eat the food but also the carts, the horses and the men, this went on for years, however, he was run out, now resurfacing, Bakasura is greedy, gluttonous and sadistic, looking for a meal.

Appearance: Bakasura appears as a hunched over, emancipated human in a hooded jacket, however, when it takes off it's hood, Bakasura reveals it's face, nothing but a featureless large gaping maw of fangs which can can grow or shrink., Bakasura has dark blue skin. It wears gold rings around it's wrists and ankles, it;s feet are wrapped in cloth, It wears a necklace of skulls.

  • Character Name: Bridget Muran
  • Race: Kasha
  • Abilities: Pyrokinesis, and minor Shapeshifting from a human form to a Kasha form.
  • Inventory: A 'cart' supposed to be used to move bodies. It manifests as whatever transportation would be best for the environment, usually with a fire-like color scheme. It can travel extremely quickly, plus can teleport through fires or places with lots of dead bodies. Technically it can also go to hell but Bridget hasn't tested that.
  • Bio: Bridget is the descendent of a Kasha that was trapped in the dome a few centuries before the RP. When the dome cracked, her latent power activated, and since yokai-ness is dominant she essentially became a full-fledged Kasha, with her own cart and firey cat-ears/tail.

And technically this is a setting where Christianity as we know it probably can't even exist, so using those versions of 'demons' or 'hell' is inaccurate!

Though it should be quite intersting when the Buddhist and Japanese - spirit characters find out they're suddenly creatures from religions they've never even heard of.

Who said Christianity can't exist? And besides, Demons and Hell are concepts that are older than Christianity; they just don't have the same context. Many religions have evil spirits and netherworlds for evil souls. Greek mythology speaks about spirits like Sisyphus, who have to go through their own personal torment for all eternity. The term "daemon" is also Greek, and is usually associated with Socrates, who believed that they were invisible spirits that gave him direction in life; kinda like Jiminey Cricket. Medieval Christians saw these spirits as malicious false idols trying to divert people from the one true God, and the word "demon" became something sinister and associated with the Devil. Evil has existed much much longer than Christianity; I just use the terms for the sake of familiarity. wink

I could use more information on the characters' lives and daily habits before the dome broke. I'll prefer to work one step at a time accounting for the temporal corruptions, but so far everyone's acceptable.

Hmm...I have a character that just might work for this. A little less mythological.

  • Character Name: Altair Argall
  • Race: Human
  • Abilities: In non-magical terms, Altair is something of a philosopher-He is intelligent, but more interested in the theoretical than the practical. He does however possess reasonable knowledge and skill regarding birds of prey. He gained magic abilities by being hit by wild magic. At the time he was lying on a hill watching Liber fly around, when shards of the dome hit them both.
  • Inventory: While whether they count as part of him or not is debatable, the bottom halves of his left arm and leg and his entire right leg are cybernetic replacements. He requires vision correction, which he uses in the form of a set of wide-lensed metal goggles, which also function as eye protection. On his right hand he wears a thick protective glove, intended for handling Liber.
  • Bio: Altair was the son of a successful scientist and inventor, whose success inspired great jealously in his associates. When Altair was eight, one such associate decided to sabotage a creation of the inventor, intending only to destroy it, having already destroyed the plans, but it exploded with more force than anticipated, killing the inventor and heavily injuring Altair, causing him to lose his right arm and the lower halves of his left arm and leg, although due to immediate medical attention he lived. For a long period of time Altair lived as such, missing several limbs and under the care of his father's old assistant. While he was growing up, he came to posses an Eagle which he named Liber, given to him to attempt to give him some responsibility. He grew up, Liber becoming more loyal to him and his lost limbs being replaced with cybernetics, and eight years passed in relative serenity until the dome broke.
  • Appearence:Altair is a relatively normal size for a human sixteen year old, although his replacement legs add some extra height and he has noticeable muscle wastage. He has jet black hair and similarly coloured eyes, as well as fairly dark skin. In terms of clothing he tends to wear dark clothing, fairly typical for a boy of his age but always long enough to hide his cybernetics, as well as a thick protective glove on his right hand, used for handling Liber and wide-lensed metal goggles which act as both vision correction and eye protection.

[up][up][up] Ah, but I didn't say that Christianity doesn't exist, I said. 'Christianity as we know it probably can't even exist.' The factions and history we know of couldn't have happened - for example, the Pilgrim Puritans would've been stuck in Europe. Though again I'm not the history person so /shrug.

[up][up] Mm. I'll think about what to do

What was Altair thinking around the time the Wild Magic pierced him, and what was Liber thinking? Relatively pointless, but is Liber male or female?

Given the nature of the setting at least a good portion of myths and legends are true. Which then requires welding or modification to fit those things in one universe, but I can see several religions being anti-magic due to it being perversion of their religion or reasons such as corruption. Anyone like to help flesh out the background with me?

Altair was just watching and thinking about Liber (appreciating nature type thing) and Liber (who is male) was flying towards a nearby body of water trying to catch fish, so presumably thinking about that.
